Today's Easter treasure - a paper clip by H.C. Andersen, who presented it to King Christian 9. On the back he had written "In every leaf is a magic. There is a living soul in there.":

Summaries of three Q&A's in Billed Bladet #13, 2018.

An Arne Pedersen would like to know whether Nikolai's birthday is an official flagday.
Jon Bloch Skipper explains that is its not a flagday.
It's the Ministry of Justice that decides which days are flagdays and currently the following DRF birthdays are celebrated as an official flagday:
QMII, Frederik, Mary, Joachim, Marie and Benedikte.
- Nikolai is not son of the heir, so no flagday for him.

A Helle Koch would like to know whether the members of the DRF can vote at referendums and general elections for the Parliament.

Jon Bloch Skipper explains that they can, all of them. But they don't excersize that right in order to remain politically neutral.
- All Danish citizens who have turned eighteen and who have their official address in Denmark, the Faeroe Islands or Greenland can vote at the general elections for the Parliament.
Except those who have a legal guardian. (They constitute only a few thousands.)

A Thomas Kofoed would like to know about how high the DRF members are and were.

They were very tall! Explains Jon Bloch Skipper.
QMII is 182 cm = 5 feet, 11.65 inches.
Frederik is 183 cm = 6 feet, 0.05 inches.
Joachim is 188 cm = 6 feet, 2.02 inches.
Our Marie is 163 cm = 5 feet, 4.17 inches.
King Frederik was 193 cm = 6 feet, 3.98 inches.
His father, King Christian X was 6 feet, 6.35 inches.
The following number are circa.
King Frederik VIII 179 cm = 5 feet, 10.47 inches.
Christian IX 184 cm = 6 feet, 0.44 inches.
Frederik VII 177 cm = 5 feet, 9.69 inches.
Frederik VI 171 cm = 5 feet, 7.32 inches.
Frederik III (1600's) 187 cm = 6 feet, 1.62 inches.

The somewhat insane Christian VII (remember Struensee and Queen Caroline Mathilde?) was 164 cm = 5 feet, 4.57 inches.

- In comparison I can mention that the first time conscripts were measured and statistics were made here in DK, was during the First Schleswigan War 1848-50 and the average height for the mainly peasant recruits was around 166 cm = 5 feet, 5.35 inches.

Summary of article in Billed Bladet #13, 2018.
Written by our jewellry expert, the Ulrik Ulriksen.

As you know Queen Ingrid started a tradition where all girls who are descendants of Queen Ingrid get a gold bracelet when they turn five years old.

The tradition started back in 1915 when then princess Ingrid received her bracelet on her fifth birthday from her mother, Princess Margareta, who also wore a similar bracelet.

So the women/girls who have or still wear the bracelet are:
Princess Margareta.
Queen Ingrid.
Queen Margrethe.
Queen Anne-Marie.
Princess Benedikte.
Princess Isabella.
Princess Josephine.
Princess Athena.
Princess Alexandra.
Princess Nathalie.
Princess Marie-Olympia.
Princess Arrietta.
Princess Amelia.
Princess Ana Maria.
Princess Theodora.

IMO it's a funny little tradition to start and now 100 years later there are loads of bracelets around!

But see for yourselves here in this pretty packed issue of Billed Bladet.
Where we also compare fashion between daughters and their mothers.
As well as follow our Marie, Mary, Joachim and Frederik on the job.

Another Easter story today

"The jeweler Fabergé made this Easter egg-inspired cigarette lighter, belonging to H.K.H Princess Benedikte, in the first half of the 1890s. At the top of the egg there is room for a wick from which the cigarette can turn on"

Summary of a Q&A in Billed Bladet #14, 2018.
Where Susan Smith would like to know about the aliases the DRF use.

Jon Bloch Skipper explains that the DRF do indeed use aliases from time to time.
Frederik used the alias Frederik Frederiksen, when he studied at Harward.
And when he has signed up for various sporting events he has used the names: Brian Jensen, Pingo Frederiksen, Hans Hansen and Frederik Hansen.

The Regent Couple went on their honey moon under the names Tom & Eva Manstad and they have used the pen-name H M Vejerbjerg, when translating at least one book.

QMII, when she has wished to attend an event incognito, may previously have used the name Marie Hansen.

---------------------

A Gustav Jensen would like to know which Danish monarch was the last to be assassinated.
Jon Bloch Skipper says in his reply that it was King Erik Klipping, who was murdered in a barn in 1286.

- That is one of the best crime stories in Danish history!
Especially as no one to this day is certain as to who was behind the murder and why.
It was most likely an attempt of a coup de etat, which only partly succeeded, because quite a lot of those who seem most involved lost everything. It backfired so much that no assassinations have been attempted since. Before then it was quite common for Danish kings to be murdered of killed in battle.
I may return to it, because it's really like a crime novel.

I thought he used Frederik Henriksen at Harvard?

Summary of article in Billed Bladet #18, 2018.
Written by Henrik Salling.

Recently Comtesse Ingrid of Berleburg was confirmed at Herlufsholm Church. The church is a part of Herlufsholm boarding school, which Ingrid has been attending since the start of this year.
So this was a natural place for her confirmation.
You may recall that Nikolai is finishing at Herlufsholm this year, before joining the army. - He was not present though.

This being an old an traditional boarding school, the confirmands left the church in a procession, with the colour in front, with a colour guard and the rest of the confirmands teamed boy-girl.

Present were of course the mother Princess Alexandra of Berleburg with her sweetheart, Michael-Ahlefeldt-Laurvig-Bille, with whom she has been going steady since last summer.
And the dad, Count Jefferson.
Princess Benedikte was there naturally, it is after all the second of her grandchildren who has now been confirmed.
Also present were Ingrid's six godparents, among them were Frederik, Princess Nathalie of Berleburg and Princess Alexia of Greece.

Prince Gustav of Berleburg was among the guests as well.

Count Jefferson and Prince Gustav hitched a ride in a car driven by Mary, with Frederik taking care of the passengers.

After the confirmation there was a lunch, which M&F took part in.

Mary wore sunglasses by Ray-Ban.

But see for yourselves here:

The in Denmark respected and well-liked - and also well-known - French ambassador to Denmark, Francois Zimeray, stops as the French ambassador after many years.

His Excellency Francois Zimeray has for many tragic reasons become a familiar face to most Danes. Not least after the dreadful terrorists attacks in France in recent years, where he was the one who was the local, so to speak, face of France in grief. And he was the one who thanked the Danes for the sympathy that was shown France and the French victims as well as leading and receiving the gestures of sympathy shown from the public.
However, he has also been a prominent figure within culture in Denmark. (Mainly Copenhagen.) And he has headed and attended many cultural events and has done his utmost in promoting France and French culture in a positive light. - A true ambassador for his country.
He actually requested that his stay in Denmark be extended and it was. Unusual among career diplomats.

He has as such also met and invited members of the DRF many times. And it he, was who on behalf of the President of the Republic, pinned the Legion of Honor on the chest of our Marie.

His last job as ambassador will be to accompany and assist President Macron during his official state visit to Denmark at the end of this month.
Two days later, he will be relieved as ambassador.

But before that he will be driven, in a horse-drawn carriage with an escort by the Guards Hussars, to Christiansborg, where he will meet QMII in a farewell audience. She will here thank him for his services in help maintaining the good relations between Denmark and France.
A couple of days later, she will meet the new ambassador from France, who will present his/her credentials - and from that moment that person is officially the French ambassador to Denmark.

At the bottom of the article is a small gallery with photos of the ambassador and the DRF: https://www.billedbladet.dk/kendte/f...kke-afskedsord

Summary of a Q&A in Billed Bladet #37, 2018.

Where a Pia Hessner would like to know who will rule DK, should Christian become king before he is 18.

Jon Bloch Skipper replies that most likely a permanent Rigsforstander would be appointed, that would probably be his farbror, Joachim or his mother, Mary.

- In fact a Rigsforstander and an official guardian will be appointed. The guardian will with almost certainty be Mary and as such it's most likely Joachim will be Rigsforstander. - Joachim to take care of the national interests and be the temporary head of the family, while Mary will look after and protect the interests of Christian and ensure he gets the proper education and training for taking over when he turns 18.
Supported, counseled - and overseen - by the court, advisors and the government.

BT article.
https://www.bt.dk/royale/prins-joach...t-er-mors-slot

Joachim has spoken out about who will inherit Cayx - sort of...

Directly asked he replied: "As the world is today, much can happen, but that what is so beautiful about Cayx, is that it belongs to the Queen."
Som verden er i dag, kan der ske så meget, men det, der netop er det smukke ved Cayx, er, at det er dronningens.

"So there is nothing up for discussion."
Så der er ikke noget, der er oppe til diskussion.

So there is no strife between him ad Frederik regarding who is to inherit the chateau?
"No, it's peace and quiet. It belongs to the Queen, so there is no more to it."
Nej, det er stille og roligt. Det er dronningens, så den er ikke længere.

Summary of a Q&A in Billed Bladet #41, 2018.

Where a Hanne Lindholm Borello would like to whether QMII can remarry.

Jon Bloch Skipper responds that she can, provided the Parliament approves of the marriage.
§5 in the Law of Succession states that: For the king or ruling queen's entry into matrimony, the approval of the Parliament is required.
