Ain't much news in BB this week, but they seem to have posted someone outside Amalienborg on both Mary and Marie's birthdays.

In the afternoon, Birgitte Handwerk, who is a very close friend of Mary, as well as the manager of the Mary Foundation, Helle Østergaard, dropped by with flowers.

The next day, Nikolai and Felix arrived in the afternoon after school to congratulate our Marie.

To be moved to the appropriate thread.

BB provides some more details about the upcoming Turkish state visit. Kronprinsesse Mary skal besøge Danner Huset | Billed Bladet

The Presidential couple will be escorted by guards hussars to Amalienborg, as the Regent Couple will still be in residence at Amalienborg.
The galadinner will also take place at Amalienborg. That's a bit surprising. It's usually always at Fredensborg or Christiansborg because there is more room.

In line with M&F taking over Frederik and Mary will accompany the Presidential couple on much of the visit. Mary will accompany the Turkish first lady to the Danner Crisis Centre in Copenhagen.
It was if IIRC established in the 1800's as the first centre of its kind in DK. In an age where wife-beating or in the case of the women coming to the centre wife-thrashing was common. It's named after the founder Countess Danner.

Today is April 9th.

At dawn in 1940 Denmark was occupied by Germany and that was the beginning of "the Five Cursed Years" as it has become known here in DK.

There were skirmishes in predominantly Southern Jutland but also around Amalienborg before a ceasefire went into effect.
Christian X, who was very much a military man to the bone and at the best of times not particularly diplomatic (he was a lousy hippocrite) took the occupation as a personal affront.
It was dark but more than that it was uncertain times. Will Denmark be at war? And with whom? How long will the Germans stay? There were still heavy fighting in parts of Norway. Would the Germans incorporate all of Denmark or just Southern Jutland into Germany? Would the British start bombing?
Then on 16th April a Princess was born. Margrethe. The Light in the Dark as it was labelled.

Let's have a look at some pics from that period.

http://www.bt.dk/sites/default/files...6/6311210-.jpg
A genuine photo taken at the very early hours of 9th April. Patrols and small groups of Danish soldiers like these were scattered around in Southern Jutland, waiting for the Germans. And this was their combat position! - For fear of provoking the Germans the government had forbidden the army to prepare proper positions.

http://b.bimg.dk/node-images/40/7/7040991-tyskere.jpg
German soldiers rolling up through Southern Jutland on that day. As you can tell, some were pleased to see them, not least in Southern Jutland, where there was, and still is, a considerable German minority. And there were also genuine Nazis here and there. But most people looked on in bewilderment, curious, shocked, dazed, uncertain.

http://www.denstoredanske.dk/@api/de.../=21227106.jpg
A German troop transport sneaked into Copenhagen harbour at dawn and moored at Langeline. The quay stretching from Amalienborg up to the Little Mermaid a couple of kilometres or so away. Here they poured into Copenhagen and also towards Amalienborg.
The ship had been noticed and the coastal artillery was ready to fire. But the canons didn't work. Sabotage? Incompetence? Treason? It has never been established.
During the day thousands of Copenhageners went to see the ship. In an era without TV and where newspaper reports with photos were only available many hours later, people felt a need to see with their own eyes what was happening.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...hagen_1940.jpg
Shortly after the Occupation Christian X went to visit Soutern Jutland, greatly reassuring people there. As you can tell, he became the rallying point for intense national feelings.
He was not a popular King before the war, respected, but not popular. During the war he was practically venerated as a living national symbol. And so too, was the rest of the DRF, not least the CP family, who was followed closely. Would you imagine? CP Frederik was even seen pushing the pram with one of his daughters! A man! Oh yes, he was a modern father.
CP Ingrid wasn't particularly popular before the war. She was Swedish. She always looked fashionable. Her performance when on the job was a little too perfect. She spoke the lingo with accent. And (whisper) she was a cleptomaniac. She too became a rallying point. During the war and certainly after, she became popular (more and more so in fact) but first and foremost she became hugely respected.

http://www.bt.dk/sites/default/files...40969-povl.jpg
This man, who went public recently, was a member of the Resistance. Povl. He worked in a bank on 9th April and returned to the same bank after the war, never talking about what he did.
He liquidated eleven people during the war. Eight men and three women.
To this day he positively hate and loathe the Danish war-time government, especially one party, that is still in Parliament. In fact the party is in the current government coalition today.

http://www.kriminalsager.dk/Lock-Han...924_Aarhus.jpg (WARNING: full frontal nudity. *)
This woman, Grethe Bartram, was one of the most notorious informer or snitch if you will, during the war. It is to this day not certain how many were executed, send to concentration camps or just prison, often after being tortured, because of her.
Here she, very ironically, is posing for a Communist art group. The Communists were the first to geniunely form a resistance after 1941 and they suffered accordingly.
After the war she was sentenced to death but pardoned, as the autorities didn't wish to execute women. - She was lucky. She wasn't liquidated during the war and she excaped the revenge assassinations after the war.
In the years after the war around 500 were sentenced to death and some 50 were executed, the rest were pardoned. It was cynically decided by the Parliament that a number of people should be executed "to quench the thirst for revenge among the people". They were nothing but human sacrifices, because with a few exceptions those sentenced and executed first were small fish. The trials of the more serious offenders took longer, so they were sentenced later and thus pardoned.
*) It is actually one of the very few pics of her where she has been 100 % identified.
Here is one more of her, with her clothes on: http://a.bimg.dk/node-images/360/2/6...006-grethe.jpg
The first picture is the most famous of her, parly for obvious reasons, but also because she is positively identified on the picture, and just as crucially it emphasized her questionable character. Models were generally considered being of ill repute and Grethe Bartram is claimed (and she probably was) to be a semi-prostitute. She was certainly not someone you took home to meet mom and dad!

Today is also a flagday. Dannebrog will fly on half mast until noon, where it must be raised to full mast and remain there for the rest of the day. Danneborg is never ever lowered from half mast.

- Some may find this irrelevant, so be it. I think it's important to help understand the historical, national and cultural background Mary and our Marie have become a part of.

As do I, but you might want to find a different picture of that female Traitor, as I don't think pictures of people posing like that will be allowed here. Just a bit of a heads up. :)

Thanks for all of the history about the meaning of today in Denmark. So...Princess Margaret of The Netherlands wasn't the only baby Princess born at the time to give hope to her People. I never knew that about HM.

Thanks again for all the information. I've learned so much about Denmark thanks to you over the years. Thanks again!!

The big story that is unfolding today in the papers is, if correct, nothing short of an unprecedented scandal.

A former journalist at the weekly gossip mag Se & Hør, has written a semi-fictional book based on his time at Se & Hør. The book is very detailed and clearly describes methods and episodes from Se & Hør.

One of them is that someone at Se & Hør paid a person employed at Nets, which is the company monitoring virtually all transactions with credit cards in DK, to hand over information about payments by a considerable number of famous people in Denmark.
Three of them are Prince Henrik, and Joachim and Marie. In fact based on the credit card track, Se & Hør was able to follow them on their honey moon in Canada - which is true, Se & Hør did track them down.
Just as serious, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, who was Prime Minister, until 2012, and who must be expected to become the next PM has also been monitored via his credit card transactions.

The period this ocurred is claimed to be between 2008-2012, perhaps longer.

So far, it has not been verified by independent sources. But Nets has launched an investigation this morning and the opposition has demanded that the Minister of Justice take action.

As journalists were also among those targeted we can rest assured that the rest of the press in DK ara ganging up on Se & Hør, if there is any thruth in this, it will emerge.

The present and former editors in chief at Se & Hør, deny any knowledge. However the book more than hints that it was a "if you don't tell us - we won't ask you" basis in regards to intimite info.
The journalist fell out with the editor at Se & Hør and it smells like payback to me.

- If all this is correct. I simply don't know what will happen.

It is so illegal! We are not just talking a fine or civil lawsuit here, or even being barred from the profession, we are talking guaranteed prison on top of that for those who commited this and who were responsible.

Doesn't surprise me at all. Se & Hør has always been a bunch of scum - the Danish equivalent of Daily Fail. I hope they get shut down, though that probably is wishful thinking.

Prince Henrik, Joachim and Marie?
Why would S&H have settled for only those members of the DRF??

I wouldn't be surprised at all, if this was true. S&H is a disgusting rag.

I actually don't think QMII has a credit card, that's not her style. If she needs anything, she'll let her LiW pay or ask for a bill to be send to Amalienborg.
So any expences card will not issued in her name.

PH is more out and about on his own, so it's more natural that he should have a card.
As to M&F, who knows? I read somewhere that Frederik has a black American Express, perhaps that's the only one he use personally and he may use a more or less anonymous "expences" card for smaller amounts?
The same thing may apply to Mary.
I don't think Nets cover such cards.

But it's nevertheless red-hot illegal. Not only a criminal offense, but also a breach of the legislation regarding personal information. It's also dealing in stolen goods because it's equivalent to stealing a letter.
Journalists will get the big harmmer, since they are supposed to know the legislation.
The guy at Nets can march straight to prison, probably followed by several journalists and editors. At the very least they are likely to lose their press credentials.

But let's remain cool. even though I find this more than plausible, it will take some time before Nets are through with their investigation and before the other news media will have dug up more.
So far, former editor-in-chief, Henrik Qvortrup hasn't been particular convincing with his denial. - Or rather a "I knew nothing and I didn't ask and...".

ADDED: The first police complaint has been launched at Se & Hør: http://www.bt.dk/danmark/efter-bts-a...melder-se-hoer

A politician has reported the magazine to the police. He has previously been baffled as to how Se & Hør were able to write an article with details about where he had been and eating during a visit to Berlin. - Considering that S&H hardly had a journalist shadowing him 24/7 for such trivial details his suspicion may be valid.

It is actually Aller Press that will be most interesting to watch. Aller Press owns Se & Hør (and BB too for that matter). It's one thing to lie to the public but to lie to your owners is another matter. So how the media house will deal with this will be telling I think.

Follow up.

The police has confirmed that an investigation has been initiated early Monday.

So far the DRF have not wanted to comment specifically on the informations that have surfaced.

The penal code for passing on personal information for profit or personal gain is currently up to two years in prison. But as there is no precedence for a case like this and the fact that a Prime Minister as well as the DRF may have been tapped, so to speak, makes the case even more serious.

The current editor in chief of Se & Hør has stated that no such methods have been used or will be used while he has been editor. - However, he cannot say what happened before he became editor...

ADDED: The impression I get so far, in regards to the former journalist, now author of the book that has started all this, is of a man who is comitting a slow suicide, a selfdestructing type. Apart from that I believe it is very clear that he want's to hit back on Se & Hør, because the magazine sacked him a couple of years ago. If it means taking down the magazine or even the publishing house (which would be unlikely), so much the better.
I think that shines through in this DR1 interview: http://www.dr.dk/Nyheder/Kultur/Medi.../28/144405.htm

wow what a mess.
I do hope, if true, that all responsible are brought to justice.

Not only must the DRF (Henrik, Marie and Joachim) fill violated but also the other politicians

Indeed, not to mention celebs and others who for whatever reason have been in contact with SE & Hør, they must ask themselves now: Did they check my credit card transactions as well?

Because the story is getting more, and more plausible.

Forlag om kendis-spionage: Dokumentationen er i orden | Kultur | DR

The publisher behind the book by the former S&H journalist has stated that he is satisfied that the informations in the book are true and that he apparently seen satifactory documentation.
He adds that the journalist/author is prepared to present that documentation if requested by a proper authority.

He ends: "I think it's fine that it has been reported to the police, so that you can find out how far you can go in order to write a magazine".

The former editor-in-chief, Henrik Qvortrup, who certainly in my mind, (and it is more than hinted in various articles as well) was the one who initially okayed this, has been grilled by reporters all day.
Considering that he is the main political reporter/analyzer on TV2 and is used to grilling people himself, he has not been convincing!

Qvortrup om Se og Hør-overvågning: Det kender jeg ikke til - Politik | www.bt.dk
The gist of this article is: "I knew nothing. - I didn't know the details about how the individual reporters got their stories. (And didn't ask either, obviously). - We did pay "rewards" for information, but not about credit card transactions as far as I know. - Anyway, it's been years, so I really can't remember much" and so on...

- As far as the papers have worked out, two S&H reporters had direct access to their "source" at Nets, but other reporters also "requested" info about various persons they happened to be interested in.

- Law experts have made it clear that neither the journalists who just wrote articles based on info about credit card statements, nor the editors can claim ignorance, or plausible deniability. In the eyes of the law they were "fencing" i.e. handling stolen property/information and such an offence carry the same sentence as for the actual thief.

Follow up:

Things are going really fast now! The media mill is spinning.

Here is a TV2 interview with the former S&H reporter, who openly admits that part of the motive behind the book is payback: Forfatter bag skandale-bog: Hævn er klart et motiv | Nyhederne.tv2.dk

And on the more amusing side: Bet25 put the odds for S&H being closed down this year at 1.80 - the odds for the magazine surviving 2014 are 2.00.

Perhaps because they don't use credit cards handled by Nets, or alternatively, because of cold feet by the source inside Nets?

In public registers, and Nets is a public register, there are a number of names which require special clearance to even access, and when you do, you need to enter a personal code even to get access.
Atually a number of civil servants have been fired or got a severe warning for accessing or just attempting to access information about persons that were not of relevance for the particular task they were doing.
It was less strict back in 2008, but still, you couldn't access such sensitive information as credit card transactions just like that.

ADDED: Aller Press, the publishing house behind S&H has just announced that an internal inquiry has been launched. http://jyllands-posten.dk/politik/EC...er-kulegravet/
Aller Press has hired an external company to perform the investigation. - About an hour prior to this the current editor for S&H saw no immediate reason to investigate S&H.

Well, the story is now for all practical purposes confirmed.

Apparantly, the source inside Nets is a 45 year old IBM employee.
IBM will now also launch an investigation, most likely in co-operation with the police.
Mulig Se og Hør-kilde arbejdede hos IBM | Nyhederne.tv2.dk

Another employee at Se & Hør has comeforward, so far anonymous, to the paper BT and said that all three editorsduring the period in question 2008-2012 knew about the source at Nets and that is was general knowledge at S&H.
Tidl. ansat giver Qvortrup kniven: Så meget vidste Se og Hør-bosserne - Danmark | www.bt.dk
ADDED: Correction. Two or three employees at S/H have stepped forward and confirmed the existance of the source: http://ekstrabladet.dk/flash/dkkendt...cle2271342.ece

Yesterday, the former editor, Henrik Qvortrup, finally spoke out in more detail. And being grilled, he admitted that something illegal might have taken place but he didn't know. Because the source got 10.000 DKK a month for his information. And sums of that magnitude must inevitably have to be approved by the editor.
However, he claims he didn't know about the details of how his reporters worked, so even though he okayed considerable sumes to be paid out, he felt no reason to ask into that and in that context he can't rule out that something illegal might have taken place.
- IMO Qvortrup's attempt to pass the blame on to his reporters is a major mistake. Now they'll have no qualms about talking about him and his responsibillity.

According to attorney Peter Lind Nielsen, who teach media legislation, the repsonsible, journalists, source as well as editors risk up to six years in prison.

For the moderators: I suggest we open a new thread, because we are now litterally only one step away from arrests and a trial.

---------------------------

ADDED: BT has compiled a gallery of the main characters in this and posted their explanations so far under a heading: "Busy washing hands".
http://www.bt.dk/danmark/koe-ved-se-...ninger#slide-2
1: Former editor, Henrik Qvortrup, now political analyst at TV2: "Well, I don't know how you work at BT, but I was too busy to ask into every detail. I assumes as a matter of course that it taken place within the law".

2: Per Ingdal, from Aller Press' management, who for a period was editor for S&H, before a regular editor could be hired: "I was substitute as the responsible editor-in-chief during a period where we had no editor-in-chief. I was a different editor-in-chief than normal, because I spend most of my time doing my regular job and on top of that looking for a new editor-in-chief. I was a kind of administrative chief, so that's what I can contribute with".

3: Kim Henningsen: No comments.

_ gotta go, thye rest later.

I´m wondering... How can S&H have bought these informations and made use of them and BB haven´t? The magazines are after all in the same building, although not on the same floor, I presume.

But S&H has always been a inferior (underlødigt) magazine with no consciense, so I´m really not that surprised.

Apparently the source has been named: Tidligere Se og Hør-ansatte bekræfter kilde i Nets | Radio24syv Memo

The source, an IBM employee, has been identified, but his name has not yet been revealed. He has declined to comment to BT today.

Joachim has also declined to comment, when asked at an event at Forum today: Prins Joachim stivnede, da Se og Hør-skandalen blev nævnt i dag - Danmark | www.bt.dk

Aller Press' magazines are independent of each other. Donald Duck /Anders And, Ugens Rapport, Billed Bladet and Se & Hør and so on cover different segments of readers and as such they compete more than they co-operate. That also means that the publishing house can add or remove magazines as they please without disturbing the overall sale

That´s right, I forgot the independence.

I´m looking forward to what happens in this case. Will S&H be shut down or will they continue?
