State Visit from The Netherlands to Denmark: March 17-19, 2015

Frederik and Joachim are wearing orange ties. Everyone looks nice, but I can't say I'm in love with Maxima's coat.

I wonder what language these families will speak during their visit. Dutch and German are similar, most of the DRF speaks French but I don't know about the Dutch. Maybe they'll just resort to English.

Tonight should be interesting - I hope to see some serious bling!

I'm pretty sure they will talk in English. I believe neither Maxima nor Mary are fluent in German, and Dutch and German, although similar, are nor mutually intelligible.

I don't think that Maxima, Mary, Marie & Henrik speak German. And Dutch and Danish are different enough to make unlikely that they would understand each other. On the other hand English must have become second nature to all of them, they speak it so often when they are abroad. So I'd say: they mainly converse in English.

Now that's an interesting state visit! What a warm welcome and Prince Richard!!!

Some exciting days to come...

I think you are right, the common language must be English.

At first I was surprised that even Prince Richard was at the welcome ceremony. But then I seem to remember that Richard and Benedikte met at some wedding festivities in NL, I think it was the wedding of Beatrix & Claus. So he must have a personal connection with the Dutch family as well.

They will speak English to one another; the bling can already be seen on Queen Maxima's coat, that I find quite smart and very beautiful indeed.:flowers: I also like the shoe game, I believe both the Dutch queen and the Danish crown princess are wearing Louboutin.:) The Danish princes wearing Orange ties is a bonus, bravo:lol:

How thoughtful of Queen Máxima to choose a Danish designer, Claes Iversen, for her arrival outfit. It is also refreshing to leave the known path (Natan).

:flowers:

As Schatten pointed out Mary and Queen Maxima today went to Aalborg University: Dronning Maxima og kronprinsesse Mary på Aalborg universitet | Billed Bladet

Where they took part in a panel discussing general happiness and well-being based on similarities between NL and DK.

When they left both ladies were presented with flowers by Dutch tourists.

This should be well covered by the regional news on TV2 tonight.

ADDED: Jyllands Posten also have a few pics on the arrival: http://jyllands-posten.dk/indland/ECE755473/Varm-modtagelse-til-Hollands-kongepar/

Daily Mail has an article as well, but they seem to angle it as if there was a competition between the DRF and the NLRF http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbi...g-protocol-greets-King-Queen-Netherlands.html
I'm sure both families would burst out laughing if they should read that article.

"Second thoughts to her 2010 wedding?" DM couldn't even get the details correct about Frederik and Mary's wedding.

TAK! To all who have shared information from today. QMII in a familiar hat and outfit greeted her godson fondly along with her glamorous sister and daughters-in-law. The Danish gentlemen provided a warm welcome in their orange ties. :)

that was indeed a really nice curtsy of mary to maxima.
It was for King W-A :flowers:

Mary and Màxima have arrived at Aalborg University (Royalista)

As Schatten pointed out Mary and Queen Maxima today went to Aalborg University

Just to be clear: They didn´t went to Aalborg in Jutland. Aalborg University has a department in Copenhagen, so it was that site that they went to :flowers:

DR1 will cover the gala dinner from 19.05. That's in 30 minutes from now. They will start with the guests arriving, culminating naturally with the DRF and NLRF. - Plenty of bling coming up!

Are you able to watch this? https://www.dr.dk/tv/live/dr1#!/
They are sending news right now.

At 21.55 DR1 will again send from state visit today.

 Once again it's geo-blocked, at least at the moment:
Kanalen kan ikke afspilles

Vi er desværre begrænset til ikke at kunne afspille den nuværende udsendelse online på DR TV af rettighedshaverne. Befinder du dig udenfor Danmark eller sidder på en computer med udenlandsk ip-adresse, kan problemet også skyldes, at vi desværre ikke har rettighederne til at vise kanalen i udlandet.

More genuine lovely pictures, thanks.

A video from BB: VIDEO: Så overraskede blev kronprinsesse Mary og dronning Maxima | Billed Bladet

However, I have never understood why it's called a three-day visit. The visit ends tomorrow night, no more events from there. So don't understand why March 19th is written as part of the visit.

More delightful pictures from F&M and WA&M's visit at Aalborg University in Copenhagen:

Perhaps we were optimistic and hoped to see pictures of the departure on the 19th. But you are right, it officially ends tomorrow already.

The NOS website says it will broadcast the king's speech live, on 20:00 on www.nos.nl, which is rather surprising.

Lovely coat for Mary. I'm not a fan of Máxima's coat, it just looks so big..

State Banquet is to begin any minute now,the guards within the Palace are all in place now at Christiansborg. What sparkling beauty will await us,mere lurkers...;)

The above post by kapenot88 contains photos of the Dutch State visit to Denmark (Day 1).

Crown Princess Mary's hat and hairstyle look awkward to me. Mme Helle Thorning-Schmidt looks rough in a red suit.

Prince Richard zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg was the scapegoat for the romance of Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands with Claus von Amsberg.

Via Prince Richard, his friend Claus von Amsberg (a German aristocrat) was invited for the pre-wedding ball of his sister Princess Tatiana zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg with Prince Moritz, Landgrave of Hessen. It was there, on that ball, that Prince Willem-Alexander's mother and father definitely fell for each other.

What a wonderful geste for Prince Richard to travel to the airport for the welcome ceremony!

:flowers:

I'm not geo-blocked from Germany,
Can somebody explain who the man is standing atop the stairs and greeting the guests?
Thanks

DR1 are right now covering the arrival of the guests for the gala dinner at Christiansborg.
One commentator is the former master of ceremony, Christian Eugen Olsen, who must be said to be eminently suited for that task!

Tv2 cover the speeches and state visit at 20.50.

- But lets have a look at the main event tomorrow: The visit to the island of Samsø.
Apart from being an idyllic holiday island with surprisingly nice summer weather (something to do the geography), the island is also 100 % covered by sustainable energy, which means that the island energy wise is carbon neutral. That makes the island and it's 4.000 inhabitants a living showcase for the Danish export in sustainable energy solutions. There is good money, very good money, in carbon neutral energy!

On top of that Samsø, where I often went on holiday as a child, has the by far best potatoes in DK.

Here are some idyllic pics from the island. Some twenty years ago I met an American war veteran who had settled on the island. Here he and his shattered nerves had found peace, in every meaning of the word.

Is Christiansborg the usual venue for State Banquets? I thought these were usually held in one of the four mansions of Amalienborg?
