As a Norwegian expert said, I think both King Harald and Queen Sonja would have been present at the funeral if it had not been for the State visit from Iceland.

It's a private family funeral, so not surprised if no Brits, Spain, Lux or Monaco.

Was right when i thought Madeleine may go to support her godmother. Nice that Queen Silvia is also able to attend. Nice to see the Beatrix coming.

Considering how close the three sisters are, I'd be expecting a large Greek turn out. He was their brother in law/uncle. Maybe not the kids, school, but certainly the adults.

Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands had a special bond with the late Prince Richard. He was befriended with the German aristocrat Claus von Amsberg and on an evening in June 1964 at Schloss Kronberg something happened. That evening saw the ball for the wedding of Princess Tatiana (Prince Richard's sister) with Prince Moritz von Hessen.

Princess Beatrix felt head over heels in love with that charming gentleman Claus von Amsberg who was there with Prince Richard. To give this fresh blooming love a chance without media intrusion, Prince Richard was willing to appear in public with the Princess. So the media was fooled, leading to rumours about an engagement of the future Queen of the Netherlands with Prince Richard zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg. In the meantime Beatrix and Claus could learn each other better and better.

In return, in March 1966, Prince Richard was one of the guests on the wedding of Princess Beatrix and Prince Claus, in Amsterdam. There he met a ravissante beauty, named Princess Benedikte of Denmark. The rest is history...

No wonder that the Princess joins her son Willem-Alexander and her daughter-in-law Máxima to the funeral. They had such a special bond and it must be aching for her to know that her Claus' dear friend has left this world too...

It seems that count Jefferson of Pfeill is not present (yet).

From the Greek RF I see Queen Anne-Marie and Princess Theodora.

Yes, its very sad to see...
Prince Richard lived long life, yet, you never want to loose any of your family members and its always heartbreaking when you have to say final farewell.
My deepest symphathies to the family. May he rest in peace.

I'd like to say that its very heartwarming to see that there will be so many representatives from different royal families attending the funeral of late Prince Richard. They share happy moments like big jubilees, weddings, christenings, and they won't stay away at moments like this.

What a lovely story!

The pictures from his funeral are heart-breaking; his family looks so devastated. He was no doubt much loved, and I hope for peace and comfort to his loved ones.

True, and that they met both their partners at their wedding/sisters wedding probably intensified the already good bond between the Danish and the Dutch royal families. It is a very touching story.
