The clip of DR:
While they show the pictures of a touched Crownprince with tears in his eyes, we hear him say: “It was a sunstorm”, you can say”.
At the pressconference:
CP Frederik: “To bring your wife for the first time has been an amazing joy. And I have had expectations of showing her as much as possible.”
CP Mary: “The population has been so warm-hearted and friendly and so warm. And they have received me, like they knew me very well. [and] that has been the most moving…. And than the landscapes are fantastic, it doesn’t look like anything, I have seen before.”
Q Margrethe: “You actually look differently at something, you also have to show others – when you say: ‘you have to hear this’, or ‘I want to tell you about this place’ – yes [ironically] I love to explain about all sorts of things, makes other people’s ears tear into shreds”.
Mary has also been rechristened, when she crossed the polar circle for the first time.
Mary: “My name was, is [Chatleen: don’t know how to write the name] In danish, it means ‘our daughter-in-law’.”

Extracts from the article in BT:
Quote:
|
Q Margrethe: "Is has been an extra pleasure for the Prince and me, that the Crownprince and the Crownprincess also have went along. To see the Crownprincess meet Greenland for the first time. We have been looking forward to this all winter.
It is nice to see, how the young ones have been greeted, and how well, they are doing".
Quote:
|
»Det største ved den her tur har været, at vi var fire til at dele vore glæder. Vi plejer jo bare at være to. Det var en slags familietur,«
|
P Henrik: "The biggest part of this trip has been, that we have been four people to share our joy among us. Usually we are only two. This have been a kind of a familytrip."
Quote:
|
»Jeg havde planlagt, at jeg ville skrive dagbog, men der var desværre ikke så meget tid til det. Men jeg regner med, at når jeg kommer hjem, vil jeg tænke tilbage og skrive det ned,«
|
CP Mary: "I had planned to write a diary, but unfortunately I haven't had the time. My plan is now, that when I come home, I will reflect on the trip and write it all down."
Quote:
|
|
CP Frederik on the Greenlandic dogs: "Of course I speak to them in a rough way. The danes think, that it is rough and tough. But actually, I have been congratulated by a sealer, who thought, that it was visible, that I have experience in working with Greenlandic dogs. And no harm was done to the dog, because I missed it completely."

My comments on Mary speaking danish:
I think, that she speaks it very well. The pronunciation is getting better, and her vocabulary isn't poor at all.
You can tell though, that she still thinks in english. During the pressconference, the english word 'and' slipped her tongue. IMO that shows, that her thoughts are in english.
This is just an observation on my account though, I don't mean to critisize her danish skills. Afterall it must be difficult trying to learn danish in Greenlandic surroundings with a father-in-law speaking French

Thanks for the translations Chatleen! :flower:
It is good to get an evaluation of Mary's Danish skills from someone in the know.
PS: No, you were not the target of a joke . Jasl was just joking about the wedding commentator's incorrect use of "touching" ( ). You can use either touched or moved. I tend to use moved more, but it is more of a personal preference rather than a rule in English.

Ehm, am I the target of some sort of joke here??
Well, I wouldn't have used 'touching' in the same way, as the commentator
But when I say "a touched Crownprince", it would be better to say "a moved Crownprince"???? [/b][/quote]
O no, not at all! (so sorry if it seemed that way :flower: ).
I think the word "touched" just reminded me of the Danish commentator saying "touching" that's all. It was quite funny then because I was ready to start crying, watching Frederik fighting back his tears, and the commentator came up with that phrase!
No, you're absolutely right... "touched" is quite appropriate.

Good, I just wanted to get it clarified, whether I used the word in the in the right way :)
Wonder who that danish commentator were Actually I also think, that these commentators say a lot of rubbish, even in their native language. Guess it is a hard job to keep a conversation going for hours

I will think back ... you could also use "I will reflect on"

Thanks for translating the conference. It's so nice because it seems that the family really loves Mary and they're very enthusiastic about sharing their knowledge of Greenland with her. It's a widely known fact that QMII has always loved Greenland and felt a special connection with it (she said so herself in a book that I think was only recently published). I'm happy to see that QMII is so eager to show Mary around- very sweet.
I only with Alex and Joachim could have gone too so thay way the whole family could have experienced Greenland together for the first time with Mary.

Hmmm, for my part, I wouldn't want my sister in law and brother in law to tag along to everything I go to! I think when Alex was introduced to Greenland for the first time, I don't think Fred tagged along (though I'm not 100% sure).... i think it was only Alex, Joachim, Margrethe and Henrik. So now its Mary's turn.
Almost all of the RFs have to constantly see their in laws.... it must be sooo tiring!! (my parents only see my uncles and aunts once in a blue moon! but that's maybe because they live far away).

Thank you, King Christian. But now, after I´ve checked your pics closer (great work-you´ve done) in this thread, I´ve noticed that some of mine are pretty similar to yours (the polfoto-pix)
Could it be, that you´ve a little crush on Denmark´s lovely Mary, King Christian? Well, who could blame you, she´s an gorgeous australian "export article"
