Dear Muhler,
I think you have explained before but I just check anyway. So the women, including the queen have to take off their gloves to shake hand while the men in uniform, like Frederik don't have to? because the gloves are part of their uniform?
Thanks again.

Mary's outfit is gorgeous, simple and regal. But the cape,I don't know. Something is wrong with. Maybe the material doesn't for with a court gown. She we tried to do like Maxima but failed.

And Thank You Muhler for the explanation on the uniforms .
Such a lovely event and everyone looked fantastic .

Many and great pictures from today. Queen Margrehte is looking very fresh, me thinks. One of the most 'warm' New Year courts I've seen. I don't know, I just think the pictures are full of warmth and good spirit. Despite it's freezing cold here in Denmark these days... Brrrrr.

Ps. The CP-couple may always beams - but that Christmas month at home with Mary's family in Australia has been good to them (; Mary glows... Fresh summer glow and slightly rounder cheeks and other areas. So relaxed and happy. And the CP-couple barely can keep their eyes/hands from each other... It must have been an unforgettable trip for her and family. (P.s.s That she has gained a few or three kilos in weight the past few years only suits her)

The reception has been fantastic. Wonderful photos .
The Queen even sitting down looking very royal and dignified; and with the crown prince couple by her side.

Dear Muhler,
Can you explain to me what this is? The men in the uniforms with their backs showing are wearing blue fabric with a key attached to the fabric, please forgive my ignorance for not explaining it right, this looks confusing to me.

http://sn.dk/modules/xphoto/cache/31...643_2517_2.jpg

Also one of the gentlemen there does not have the shoulder pads with the fringe that the other gentleman has.....?

I must say I am really enjoy this year's court and a Huge Thank You to You everyone for providing all the information on the inner workings and the uniforms.

This is the history of Denmark on display and I just love it, so I hope that the royal family *never* changes their traditions and customs.

Now let me ask you some questions about those young men that are in the different regiments, how are they chosen to be in those regiments, is there a time limit of service or can it be for a lifetime? Do they live in barracks or housing of some sort? What do they do on a daily basis and do they have horses? Who pays for them to be in the Army, I am assuming this is part of the Army, the government or the royal family when they work at these events for the royal family? Is there an age limit to how long they can be in these regiments and can they transfer to a different regiment if they want to?

They all look so proud and serious in the pictures, is this something special for any of them to serve at these events?

Sorry for all the questions, they came to mind when viewing your pictures and reading your comment.........you are brilliant, exceptionable and generous to do this for us. Have you written a book on all the customs and history that you have imparted to us?

Muhler,
Here is another question and I hope it's okay to ask all these questions here:

http://kongehuset.dk/sites/default/f...polfoto2_0.jpg

Now I see these 3 men with the queen, I assume 2 are the Honor Guards for they are dressed the same and the 3rd gentleman, is he also an Honor Guard? He is wearing a different uniform and his has tails while the other don't. He also does not have those shoulder pads and is carrying a stafff, who is he and what does he do?

Thank you....

I really am enjoying all the pictures that you have put here for us.
As for Queen Margrethe she looks very relaxed and less stressed then what I have seen of her lately. I love her gown, and since you mentioned it is cold, those dark heavy stockings must be keeping her warm in that huge tall room for keeping it warm would be a challenge.

Fred and Mary, they are making goofy eyes at each other and I was just waiting to see where his hands would drift tonight and if there was a picture of it.....he is a very handsome hand and gets more so with age... Mary is one
lucky lady...

I wonder if there are similar pictures of HM Margrethe and her prince making 'goofy eyes' at one another...she is also a lucky lady and must be happy that her prince is now free of duties that made him uncomfortable.

It would be nice to see some pictures of the queen and her prince making goofy eyes at each other, yet in that day and age I think it was more of a strict society then in today's standards. I would guess that royals rarely showed any affection for one another in any form and it was all done behind closed bedroom doors. The cute goofy eyes that F/M make show the public that they have a happy marriage and family even in events like the Royal Courts on New Years. That goes a very long way in gaining public trust and affection.

Unfortunately into day's standards just about anything goes, like today,
Going to the market I told a young man around 20's to please pull up your pants for I do not want to see your bare ass when walking down the street, he shot me a very nasty look and yet pulled those pants up..........next time I'll take a picture and maybe put it on social media for all to see.......

This young crown prince couple are just darling and with their entire family when together, you can see the love and affection they have for each other.

The gloves are a part of the uniform and I don't recall having seen anyone removes it in order to shake hands, so I guess you are right.

The are court officials. The key is a symbol of their trusted position. I.e. having the key to the Queen's chambers.
The key is also an honor bestowed to outsiders who then become Camberlains.

They are two adjutants, see the cord around their right shoulder. Ordinary adjutants wear it around their left shoulder.
The third is the Master of Ceremonies and the staff is a symbol of his senior position.

- I think Roskilde is right. Mary has clearly enjoyed the Australian cuisine - and treats. Her face is fuller and she looks like the Mary we saw when Frederik first met her.

That must be because she's expecting twins again, according to the Aussie "press"...

The worst part of having spotty to no mostly Net service during the Holidays was knowing I was missing the coverage of the New Year Courts. Thanks to one and all for all the pictures and everything.

Going to leave it there for now. First the Storm on Christmas Eve hit our service, and I have a bad feeling the way it went out, helped to hasten the imminent death of my Router. Since due to location and other factors, I haven't a clue when I can get a new one and this is the first time online since the Weekend, so taking advantage while I can.

While it is frustrating, it could be worse...This could have happened around the time Crown Princess Victoria's due after all. So expect me when you see me and Thank You again to all who shared stuff!!

Happy New Year Everyone!!

Lol! For the past year, the Australian tabloids have been "reporting" every week that QMII will be abdicating and she'll be the Queen Regent...they sucked in my sister. I had to explain she will be Queen consort

I am happy to see that the Danes follow the proper etiquette: unglove the right hand for a handshake. Look at the right hands of the Crown Princess and the Queen. Crown Prince Frederik has his glove on but I think this was at the very begin of the passage. In video's I saw him with an ungloved right hand as well.

In the UK royal ladies seem to keep their gloves on, however Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother always followed proper etiquette.

Queen Letizia and Queen Mathilde with ungloved right hand

Too bad the public interest always seem minimal for these ceremonial processions.

I think the reason is also that it as a normal workday in Denmark and the Carraige Tour is in the morning when most people are at work.
