Danish New Year Courts: 2004, 2006-2021, 2023, 2024

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I haven't noticed his expressions. I've been too busy staring at his gray hair.

I dont want to start any rumours but in most of the pictures today and yesterday (and looking back not only there) Frederik looks like he is severely depressed or about to cry.

If the mods think this should be deleted or discussed elsewhere, feel free but its so obvious when looking at the pictures, it makes me think whether he has some serious personal problems going on, especially at those constitutional functions his expression is all over "get me out of here".

I have noticed that, as well. I hope everything is alright and there aren't any problems going on. Health or personal-wise.

Maybe the January blues which are common after the holidays. I'm sure they get bored with these functions but hey I get bored with my job as well!!!

Severely depressed?? You can't be serious? Don't you think you are exaggerating? :ermm:

Every year there are similar photos where the members of the DRF are standing there, listening to speeches, looking solemn/tired/bored/like someone who has a hangover etc etc. Similar photos can be seen during state visits, during speeches.

Maybe it is a boring event after having attended them for 25 years...;)

Yes...even before his marriage...he had that kind of expression on his face...the annual opening of parliament is another one.:whistling::ROFLMAO:

He looked good and smiling during the first New Year's Court but then he didn't have to stand for hours and greet long lines of people...and there was a sit-down dinner as well.

Remember, the long meet and greet starts at Amalienborg palace...and continues at Christansborg Palace later in the day.

Crown Prince Frederik clearly does not enjoy this ceremonial standing for hours and greeting people. He strikes me as someone who likes to be 'moving' and 'doing' something during official engagements...I'm not sure if I'm making myself clear?

Don't we get anymore photos from inside the event? Where the royal family greet the guests.

Is the Queen wearing the same outfit she wore yesterday? This is very strange to me, has she done this before?

Yes the Queen wears the some outfit to both Courts at Christiansborg. And since around 10 years it's the same blue one. Before she wore one in the same style but in yellow.

Just what i said back in post 913!!:flowers:

I haven't had a chance to look at every picture, but I really didn't think he looked depressed in any that I've seen. However, I would believe the "get me out of here" expression. :flowers: He doesn't seem to particularly enjoy these events.

I don't think anyone would enjoy such an event as they are always the SAME! This is probably why the entire Royal Family have worn the same dresses/uniforms this year in silent protest! Bring on the excitement I say!
:lol::angry::bang::D

I guess for MAry was different specially the first couple a years, to be in a place like this and been like the star of the show, to get to dess up, jewelery,etc.... I would certenly enjoy it but I understand if it is boring every year the same no excitment I get the picture for them, may be they should to bring some new thingsg to change a little bit and make it different wiithout loosing their essence!

When it comes to sombre face of Frederik,
I would say that if it indeed is result of boredom,
he shouldn't show it.
His profession is representing and keeping up
appearances. ;)
These repetitive ceremonies are part of his life and
profession and he is there to play the role accordingly.

If he is feeling not so well, then he naturally
cannot hide it but it's another thing.

It's funny, :ROFLMAO:because last year the same conversation was going around, and we were all wondering if Frederick has red eyes b/c of having a hangover or weeping.

It's just like the Nobel.I saw some pictures of the royals at the event and some looked bored. And I not suprised! It does look boring! The same thing with this event and other royal events.

Looking at Fred my thought was "Geez Fred you can at least pretend to enjoy it! Part of your duty. "That seems to be his expression every year. There are a few pics of him smiling and having a laugh with Mary though.

A couple of details from an article in Billed Bladet #1, 2012.
Written by Anna Johannesen.

I don't know if there are pics, but Mary's LiW, Tanja Doky was in a dress by Marc Lecomte.
Our Marie's LiW, Britt Siesbye, was there as well. In her capacity as a LiW. She was accompanied by Joachim's private secretary, Kurt Bache. Britt Siesbye's dress was from Malene Birger.

Mary's dress had been altered by tailor Birgit Hallstein, who explains: "We bought extra fabric this time and then I've done some magic so that the has gotten more full (more roomy, I believe) in the skirt. Apart from that it been adapted across the hips. The dress is sewn so that it will become a classic".

There is a little piece of info about Mary's dress that I'm sure I fully understand but here is what the article says: Mary wine-red dress is the same that she wore at the New Year Court in 2007, when she was pregnant with Princess Isabella. The upper-pary is new however, as are the sleeves, explains tailor Birgit Hallstein, who has sewn - and altered - the dress.

Thanks for that Muhler, with so many alterations to the gown it is practically new. I guess after 3 children ie; Isabella and the twins her body shape has changed quite a bit since she last wore that red/wine coloured gown. At nearly 40 yrs of age her body shape is going to change anyway, regardless of how much exercise you do.
As for Fred, he may have partied too hard seeing in the New Year and needs to catch up on some sleep.

Thanks Muhler for the explanations. Are there any for the alteration of the blue dress?
There is another dress that we have observed some major alterations - the light blue lace dress that Mary wore in Vietnam:

You are welcome. :)

I don't know, because due to the deadline, only the first of the New Year Courts has been covered in this issue.

:previous: Well, if I had to choose, I would say Frederik looked like he was in pain. Perhaps he's just pulled a muscle or something because he managed a smile for everyone whose hand he shook and then stepped back "at ease" until the next person so, perhaps he was in discomfort rather than just plain bored.

As to the grey hair? I think Fred is going to turn into a Silver Fox! ;)

Call me a glutton, but are there any more New Year gala's the DRF will attend over the next week or so. And will Mary host her charities reception in her new palace, do you think?

If it's tiara events, you are looking for, you need only wait until next weekend. When the 40th jubilee is celebrated.

And I'd guess Mary will host her own New Year court for her protections at home at Amalienborg.

Thanks for that Muhler. Always greedy for gala photos. Just love seeing the ladies all dressed up.

Why Princess Elisabeth's attendance is not mentioned here?

DR1 will show live from the first of the New Year Courts today from 17.50 until 18.30. The coverage will resume at 19.00 until 19.15.

As you know the first court will take place at Amalienborg. So the DRF will be driven from their various residences across the square to the mansion used representation, Christian VII's Mansion.

I am looking forward to all the New Year Court gala evenings. Can't wait!! But will have to wait till tomorrow morning before the pics come through.

We´ll have to learn a new word, Muhler  The court calls it "New Year´s Levee(s)" at the homepage :flowers:

Will we be able to watch some Live video coverage?

Will we be able to watch some Live video coverage?

Yes, provided you are able to watch this outside DK: DR1

They are incidentally showing a Danish adaptation of a Heimatfilm until the court/levee begins.

-----------------------

Seems so. But let's not make it more complicated than we have to, FasterB. ;)

I suggest the title of this thread should be changed to Danish New Year Courts (Levees): 2004-2012.

So that we all still know what we are talking about.
Because I had to look up levee as I've never heard about that word in this context before. :ermm:
