Was Mary celebrating the New Year with her famiily? Is that why she wasn't pictured?

I think it was mentioned somewhere in the Frederik forum that Mary had not been invited to this event because she wasn't officially a member of the Danish royal family yet (though I think if you're engaged, you are a member of a family) and that her sister is also getting married soon so she was back in Australia spending time with her family.

Aside, that is some train on Alexandra's dress! It looks like it could match up with a wedding dress train!

Love to see two princes and a Alexandra again..back to the good old time!

nice pictures!

I was really amazed to see them all in their outfits especially Princess Alex and the Queen. They looked extravagant on their attires. I loved the event because it was like for many months, the royal family was pictured always with Mary Donaldson and on that special event it was them so just like in the past that it was only the 5 of them, so very nice to see.

I also missed the pictures wherein it's only Alex in the center with the two princes.

Well I suppose unless we expect Prince Frederik to be without a bride forever, Alex was never going to be the only one between the two princes. I think I would rather have Fred have someone he loves than for him not to have one just so that Alex will always be the only one between the two princes. Not that we can't go ahead and miss the times when Alex was the only one, but it would be unfair to Fred.

Anyway I loooove Alex. I think she's so sweet and elegant and kind. But I have to say that I don't like the bottom half of the gown. I really don't think it flows all that well. It kinda stops when it comes to the skirt bit, and then goes all zig-zaggy black something something - I get confused. But I just focus on the top half and her smile and all is well.

I think that the Danish Court is the most formal and glitterish one

Out of all the princesses Princess Alexandra always seems to dress the part. Her ballgowns look as if they could be worn by no one else other than royalty. I love her intricate gowns with the long sweeping trains and the way she always seems to upsweep her hair and top it off with the Queen Alexandrine tiara is so elegant. I hope Mary has equally extravagant and elegant gowns like Alexandra has had. :flower:

If you were to use:
http://www.translation.langenberg.com/

you would get the following text (in quotes). You should realize that court language is (usually old fashioned and hence) different from modern day Danish. Translation software typically reflects the language in daily use.

To fine-tune the translation into something more comprehensible, consider using the following substitutions:

replace "asked" with "requested"

replace "treatment" with "invited / receive"

replace "Påklædning: Galla/festdragt" with "Dress: Gala/Mess dress (uniform)"

The Danish Royal Court has just announced that the Nytårstaflet (the annual New Year's fest/party) has been called of because of the tragedy in South East Asia. The Nytårskur (where the Queen meets with ministers and ambassadors etc) will still be held, this on 1 January.

Good judgement by the Queen, but I wonder where the Crown Princely couple are in this time of tragedy... And also, no appearance by anyone in the Royal Family to lead the nation in their grief before Sunday.... Almost one week after it occured... Hm.

The Press Release:

Nytårstaflet aflyst

Amalienborg, den 31. december 2004

Hofmarskallatet meddeler:

Alexandra, as always, looks just beautiful! Bless her heart for going! I would think this would be very awkward for her. One question -- hasn't she worn the dress to a previous New Year's dinner?

Yes...Princess Alexandra wore it to the New Year's gala in 2004! She looks fantastic and her smile is glorious! This is why I love the DRF so much...here is Princess Alexandra...divorced...but is still valued and treasured by still being included in events such as these! She, Prince Joachim and the royal family deserve the highest praise for how their divorce was handled!
