BT puts emphasis on QMII somewhat unusually wearing warm booties: http://www.bt.dk/sites/default/files...080827-sds.jpg

http://www.bt.dk/sites/default/files...0826-vbvcb.jpg

No risk of cold feet there.
I noticed in one of the captions that the Regent Couple indeed were sitting down during the 45 minuttes of handshaking due to the Queen's poor back.

My memory is failing. Some years ago Mary worn a similar blue gown, also retro-beginning of the 20 cent. style. Is that the same?

She has something in the belt level. I think she wears it.

I love Mary's brooch, it looks great on her, although it doesn't really match the dress, IMO.
Probably she will wear something she has worn before tomorrow.

I suppose she's taking after her mother-in-law, who's worn the blue brocade number for years. Before that, it was a yellow brocade levee dress, originally a full skirted gala gown.
It's used as a uniform for the NY levees, IMO a clever decision! Leeves are about representation and protocol rather than showing off your latest designer dress.
HM probably has a good reason for wearing discreet boots, thankfully they're not UGGs ..... yet!

It should be a court dress, thus, yes, it's some kind of uniform

It seems that Mary has worn four outfits for this occassion over the last few years. I like them all. And Queen Margrethe looks breathtaking as usual!

Well yes, it's sort of the Queen's 'court dress' ! As our first female monark I suppose that she decided on a uniform-like garment for the New Year Levees. The previous monarks had worn their finest military uniforms at these event and didn't have to worry about what to wear. Otherwise the current understanding of 'Court dress' in the Danish context is the 'uniform' worn by the Ladies-in-waiting. The ladies in red can be seen in a photo posted by Muhler (#1142). HM copied the idea from the Swedish court, where they have been worn for ..I don't know how long! They are usually worn at very formal occasions like the New Year levees.

Good sensible shoes I say. Now, Muhler, is the Chamberlain at the couples' right not the man who used to be Prime Minister of Denmark and who became secretary general of Nato?

Anders Fogh? No, he is still secretary general. IIRC this gentleman's name is Ove Ullerup.

Well. They both have black hair and are slim. But the general secretary has a silly wife... that I guess will be the most sure way of telling them apart. The wife, Annemette Fogh, has a habit of voicing her opinion about everything including subjects she doesnt know anything about... That is when she doesn't spontanously start to dance. Shes pretty much akin to madame Castafiore from Tintin in that respect. I believe my fellow Danes can confirm my description.- Life would be so much less entertaining without such beings around, eh?

Gallery from B.T. with text : The Queen in boots - Mary with new hairdo

The Queen was again jumped into the big boots when she, after the tour in the golden coach, arrived with the Prince Consort for Tuesday's banquet at Christiansborg.

We are otherwise used to seeing Her Majesty in nice colorful robes when she participates or is hosting various events. The only common feature of the Queen's clothing usually is a pair of polished shoes with a small heel. But the Queen chooses apparently these days more sensible footwear.

After Mary has giving a couple of recycling dresses from her wardrobe a tour in the flash light at the first two New Year Courts Mary today arrived in a new long skirt in rich silk with monochrome details of the tow added with a black blouse with peplum and three-quarter length sleeves. Around her neck and right wrist Mary was wearing jewelry with beads. The Crown Princess's hair was put in a loose hairdo and as the icing on the cake had Mary again painted her nails with a feminine, bright red lacquer.

- Written by a male journalist from B.T. He can the fashion stuff, that man

What are the branches of the military represented at the New Year Courts?

For instance, the soldiers Frederik and Mary are passing red, blue with the large black hats are called what?

Officers from the three branches of the regular military, army, navy and airforce. As far as I know the Homeguard and Civil Defence are not represented.

M&F are in your picture passing an honor guard from the the Royal Lifeguard Regiment, here wearing the red gala uniform.
