Annual Photo Shoots & Holidays At Gråsten Slot: 2003, 2005-2023

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
It's been lovely seeing the old photos and videos that the DRF have been posting from Grasten. Getting me in the mood for the upcoming photoshoot!

It is confirmed M&F are at Gråsten: https://www.billedbladet.dk/kongelige/danmark/mary-frederik-og-boernene-nyder-sommeren-i-graasten

According to other reliable sources, I have learned they arrived Wednesday, but obviously have been left alone, not only by the locals but also the press.

BB will send live from the Ringriding procession Sunday. They will air from 11.50.
I guess the coverage will last at least half an hour. It takes time for the procession consisting of riders from various clubs and organizations to pass.
Many will of course present flowers. Both to Mary of course, but as we have learned Josephine is certainly not unwilling to receive flowers! :D
Of course Bella, being a girl, is also guaranteed to get a bouquet or two.

- And who knows, as a keen rider, Isabella may even take part in the procession?
If not this year, then in a few years.

Oh la! I am in love with the Queen! Gotta love her with that rain coat! ;)

P.S. Anyone know what happened with the horse about 3:35 sec in? What was that?

Yes, horses sometimes have a will of their own.
The girl is obviously not that experienced a rider, hence why the horse was led. Because holding a bouquet in one hand and controlling a horse with the other requires some experience and if the girl on top of that is a little nervous and there are people around, the horse can be a little jumpy - or become interested in eating the bouquets...

The weather forecast for tomorrow says warm, dry and sunny.

I love how attentive Frederick is on chair duty, making sure that it’s right behind his mother no matter where she moves (and, it seems, at one point reminding her to take a little break and sit down).

And we finally have some news, albeit no pics, from Gråsten about M&F and the children.

https://www.billedbladet.dk/kongeli...lla-og-familien-havde-en-skoen-dag-i-graasten

A few hundred meters from Gråsten Manor there is a riding school that the family visit very often when they are in the area.
And they have indeed been seen several times there over the past few days.
Isabella especially has been noticed showing great interest in preparations for the ring-riders (Yes, I know it sounds like something from the Lord of the Rings).
The annual ring-riding season culminates these days with processions and ring-riding events all over Southern Jutland, with the big local procession taking place Sunday.
But there has also been an event Saturday with a procession through Gråsten town.

Perhaps Isabella will one day take part in a ring-rider event? The locals would love her for it! But it takes a lot of practice!
Ring-riding is basically lancer-training. Carrying a short and light lance in your hand you approach the ring, that is suspended from a line and about the size of a medium sized coin, at a trot and attempt to skewer the ring.
Much easier said than done!

And here is a short video showing how it's done, even though she's riding way too slow for a competition.

Also loving Josephine's top, I want one for myself. Not sure why Isabella is wearing sneakers with a midi skirt though...

Isabella obviously knows some of the younger riders, maybe they took riding lessons together?

Thanks Muhler.
The photo that Billed Bladet has on front is from last year I think, we can see how much the children have changed. Lovely family. The children are always happy when we see them, Isabella is a beautiful girl.

My goodness Isabella has got so grown up looking!!

So nice to see them all again. The kids are growing like weeds! Isabella is getting so tall and the twins are not so tiny anymore either.

Beautiful photos from a lovely event. The family seems to enjoy it to the fullest, and a surprise appearance from Grace.

Wonderful galleries and videos

Here is a 32 pic gallery from jv.dk: https://www.jv.dk/soenderborg/Kronprinsfamilien-tog-imod-ved-den-helt-store-audiens/artikel/2627934

These pics are particularly delightful: https://images.jv.dk/50/1650650_1280_854_0_0_0_0_2.jpg

A nice intimate photo of M&F.

I'll estimate Bella's height o around 160-165 cm = 5'3''-5'5''
Pretty tall for her age!

Presumably a local friend of the family?

Grace was actually gone for several minutes, while she went to the end of the driveway to the manor. A couple of hundred meters away, before deciding to return to her family. But there were so many people willing to pad her and being a polite dog she obliged.

Wonderful photos of the photosession today - I was kind of hoping that the grounds would be used as a location again as the parade was also used last year, but I still enjoyed looking at the photos nevertheless and it's always a delight to see the children. Isabella has indeed shot up since we last saw her, she looks so grown up! It does appear that she will be tall for her age.
I love the anecdote of Mary comforting the girl who was upset (I'm guessing she was just a regular member of the public?) - both she and Frederik seem to have really down to earth and approachable personalities. One can see Mary's maternal instinct showing as she seemed very quick to comfort the little girl as she would one of her own children ? That will be a pretty cool albeit a little embarrassing story for the girl to tell at parties once she's older!

It was Grace who stole the show this year. ?

Indeed she did! She's such a sweet little dog.

Could someone explain what's happening in this event? Why?

As I explained in a previous post, ring-riding is a popular sport in Southern Jutland, with lots of traditions.
These traditions include riding in a procession, in your finest, and with your horse dressed up as well, to a square where the ring-riding competitions will take place.
And they consists of trying to stick a short lance through a ring at a trot.
There are competitions on a local as well as a regional level.
The competitions and celebrations typically lasts a few days, and it's a big crowd-pleaser also because it's also a kind of country fair.
All generations take part, from old very experienced riders to the very young who have only just mastered sitting on a horse.

But of course not everyone can afford to own a horse, or attend a riding school, with all the gear needed - or are particularly keen on sitting on a horse... so for these children bicycles are an alternative, so they attend the ring-riding competitions on their iron-horses instead.

All that culminates here in the mid summer, also at Gråsten.
Hence the competitions there always culminate in a large procession where traditionally the DRF are showered in flowers. Sometimes it's QMII who is in the center, she's after all the Monarch, and sometimes it's M&F.
It's a way to personally meet and greet the royals and strengthen the affiliation between the DRF and Southern Jutland, which is strong as it is.

And that's why some 300 riders and at least one band passed by M&F yesterday.

Hello, will this year be shooting in the gardens? Thank you

No.
There is no other photo shoot planned.

But it is almost certain that we will see some photos of the family out and about in Gråsten town, but not from inside the palace grounds. That's against the law, without permission.

Strictly speaking it's also against the law to take photos of the family and publish these photos outside the palace grounds. As that is a breach of their privacy - as long of course they are not performing an official function. But the DRF usually tolerate it, especially if the photographers stand in the open, say: Hi, we are from XX, do you mind if we take a few snaps?
