I'd take rugby over golf! I was watching it in a sports bar during lunch once - first time I've ever seen it played. Man is that a brutal game! During the hour or so we were there, there must have been half a dozen guys carted off the field with head/neck stabilizers on!

Beautiful pictures, i'm glad the royals are attending events to do with the IOC. I know they are the host country, but it's nice to see.

Berlingske has an article that talks about the corruption scandals that some of the IOC members have been involved in, or have been accused of being involved in:
Kronprins Frederik på vej i dårligt selskab - Danmark
It says that this might not be a group of people that Crown Prince Frederik would want to associate with. It mentions the former IOC president Samaranch of Spain, who was a supporter of the the Spanish dictator Franco. It also says that members have been accused of tax fraud, smuggling, corruption, and murder (doesn't say which members-and only says that they have been accused).

Samarach's reign is mostly associated with the bad part of the commercialisation of the games, bringing along corruption, nepotism, hybris etc until he was more or less urged to go and replaced by Rogge to try and reinstall integrity. I thought that Madrid made a mistake by letting him do part of the pitch, whining about his age and urging people to give the games to Madrid for that reason, like a silly old fool who can't let go. He stands for the past and Rogge did well by getting rid of his Old Boy's Network and preventing his son, who is also an IOC member, from climbing ranks.
Frederik who has been labelled "lazy" many times seems be have lots of determination when it is about something he really wants or is interested in. Hopefully he will use his energy for the better of the IOC and not only become one of these huge egos within the organisation who are more interested in freebees and spin than the cause.

Seems that Frederik just got elected, accoring to this live blogg:
LIVE BLOG: Final day at the IOC Session in Copenhagen | More than the games
08.58: St Lucia's Richard Peterkin is first to be confirmed following by the Crown Prince of Denmark. Hardly a shock that after members have enjoyed the delights of 'wonderful Copenhagen' for the past ten days.
However, nine members didn't vote for the heir to the Danish throne and six abstained. Maybe, they didn't like the food - or the weather.
08.55: The session is now considering six nominees to join the IOC membership.
All have been vetted by a nominating committee and their election is considered a formality.
Despite criticism that the organisation remains too euro-centric, they include Sweden’s Goran Petersson, the president of the International Sailing Federation, and Denmark’s Crown Prince Frederik.

I hope Prince Frederick will become a perfect candidate for the IOC!
I'm right, Prince Frederick has become a new member of the IOC!

Here is the official confirmation of Frederik's election from the IOC website:
"The new IOC members are Richard Peterkin (St Lucia); HRH Frederik, the Crown Prince of Denmark; Habu Ahmed Gumel (Nigeria); Habib Abdul Nabi Macki (Oman); Lydia Nsekera (Burundi); and Göran Petersson (Sweden)."
ETA: Photo Gallery from JP.dk of the election announcement. There is a picture at the end of Frederik being congratulated by the Prince of Orange. Apparently a press conference with Frederik and IOC President Jacques Rogge (and I'm assuming the five other new members) at 15:00 Danish time.

I don't think Fred will have much time to celebrate with his wife because a report says that he flies out Friday night for Sydney, Australia. Congratulations to Fred.

Congratulations to Frederik. I'm sure he's delighted.

I love the warmth between the pair.
It's a shame he has to fly out to soon.

This is great news, congrats to him.
Was it a tuff place to get?
