Hello Magazine

Princess Elisabeth of Belgium's First Day of School

1 SEPTEMBER 2004
It's not every pupil who is followed to her first day of school by throngs of reporters, well-wishers and photographers. But the little blonde schoolgirl entering the doors of Sint-Jan Berchmans College in Brussels on Wednesday wasn't just an ordinary student – it was Princess Elisabeth, future queen of Belgium.

Wearing a pink dress and carrying a tiny red backpack, little Elisabeth, now nearly three years old, was perfectly prepared for the first day of the school year. The royal pre-schooler seemed remarkably unfazed by all the attention as she arrived holding hands with her parents, Crown Prince Philippe and Crown Princess Mathilde.
And with the poise of a future monarch, she contentedly made her way through the front doors, ready for the day ahead. Still too small to understand what all the fuss was about, she didn't lose her grip on mum and dad as they accepted flowers and greetings from onlookers.

A very darling little girl. (Remarkable the resemblance to Phillippe!) She didn't seem scared or frightened on her first day at all; in some of the pictures it looks like she's rather eager and leading Mom and Dad most of the way!

Sweet, beautiful and noble little Princess

Congratulations

What a beautiful child. I can understand Mathilde's tears at leaving that precious little girl behind. Thanks to everyone for sharing the lovey pics.

Have Philippe and Mathilde ever taken Elisabeth with them on an official trip, like Haakon and Mette-Marit did with Ingrid Alexandra when they went to Iceland?

They took her with them when they went to the wedding of WA and Máxima in 2002.

They don't take their children along when they go on economic mission. Mathilde said it would be too tiring for them (there's usually a big time difference) and they woudn't have enough time to look after them because it are vey busy days for Philippe & Mathilde. When they're both abroad the children stay with Mathilde's mother & father at the castle of Losange.

Here's a bigger scan of the cover of this week's Point de Vue (featuring Elisabeth) and the pics that were included with the article...

What a nice family they make. Philippe and Mathilde are excellent parents for their two children!

I adore that second photo as she hugs her mother. Thanks for scanning and sharing. They make a lovely family.

Martine, many thanks for the pictures. She is such a cute girl

Thank you very much for the pictures Martine they're absolutely wonderful. Wonderful pictures of a wonderful royal family - it doesn't get any better than that. :)

Yes, it's from the first day. There was a real mass of reporters and photographers & cameramen present. It didn't seem to disturb the little princess, she's already a real pro!!:)

But luckily she can go to school peacefully now, without any attention from the press.

Well, as we haven't seen any new fotos, I think there are no photographers outside the school anymore...

Pictures from this week's "point de vue" magazine:)
