thanks for the pics and info Catherine Bergeyck ^__^ much appreciated!
You're welcome Hillary :)

Here's another one of Astrid when she was younger. I think she's only become more beautiful and stylish with ageing.

Astrid's children normally don't attend these events, only the military parade at the national day.Lorenz has a normal fulltime job, he works as a banker, so that's why he can't always be present.

Wow i think it is cool Lorenz works ^__^ does he hold a top position in the bank he works for?

why is astrid wearing an orange ribbon around her neck, does it have a belgian meaning?

prime minister balkenende removed his orange bracelet with the inscription respect2all (after lance armstrongs yellow bracelets, the orange ones are soled in holland after the murder of theo van gogh) during his recent meating with putin because it might be interpreted as a reference to the orange revolution in the ukraine.

it seems just like a fashion item...
yes it does. and it might even be just that. and she could claim to never watching tv or reading a newspaper and be totally believable.

I wonder what would happen in holland (a possibly less romantic country than belgium) if margriet wore something orange at that date, even though being a member of the house of orange

People in Belgium are really not busy with that bracelet affair in Holland! There's nothing 'orange' going on in Belgium.

It's not a ribbon it's a small scarf, it has nothing to do with Ukraine or Holland.
it is a very silly scarf then and worn a few days before elections at the ukraine.
Of course she is a grown up and not many people could say to her before she went out, what is that around your neck?

I think royals should not take sides or appear to do so.

Didn't everybody else here say that it was JUST a scarf and that Astrid's scarf had nothing to do with politics elsewhere???
So some days before political events in OTHER PARTS of the world royals should refrain from wearing that country's national colours???
How silly!!!
So for most of December no royal should've worn orange in case it MIGHT SUBLIMINALLY mean support for Ukrainians???

The bracelet affair is that like Watergate or Monicagate???
I think it's rather nice for royals to show unanimous world wide support for certain worthy causes. The yellow bracelets are supported by Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong in support of cancer research. Why would it be so bad or wrong for the Belgian royals to support cancer research and show their support by wearing one of those bracelets now and then???

Once and for all it had NO political meaning. No-one in Belgium said anything about the scarf. Only you bring it up, so you can pick on Astrid once again. Let it end please.
