Especially for the pupils of the agricultural school this visit meant a lot, even though their school has a great reputation and they're hard workers, other (normal grammar)schools often look down on them.

This particular photo show Filip & Mathilde 1 or 2 days before their wedding, they were at the airport to pick up Naruhito and Masako of Japan, good friends of the couple.

Thanks for the picture Hannelore. Can you write more about the friendship of Naruhito/Masako and the CPs of Belgium? I am curious to know what you know of their friendship. Do they socialize apart from formal functions? Having read that Masako feels constrained in her world travels by the Imperial Household, I have wondered the extent to which the Japanese CPs know or socialize with their European counterparts. And Mathilde, through photos, seems like such a gentle and kind person, I should think she would be a very sympathetic friend to Masako and her difficulties.

The Belgian and Japanese royal families have been good friends for a few generations already. I don't know very much about the friendship between the two couples. Before his wedding, Filip travelled various times to Japan and got really fascinated by it, he said it's the combination of very modern technologies and very ancient traditions that make Japan such a special and interesting country. With his fund he also stimulates young Belgian business men and women to work a few months in Japan, a sort of exchange program. This part of his fund doesn't get a lot of media atention, because it's on such a small scale, but he's personally involved with it and meets the participants every year before they leave and when they come back.

Speaking of Japan...
Prince Philippe will preside a Belgian trade mission to Japan starting on the 11th of June. Mathilde won't accompany him this time.

I love the big close up of Mathildes engagement ring (you have to wonder how close the photographer was ), it is vey beautiful, Philippe has good taste in jewellery:)
Mathilde looks very elegant as usual but Im really not sure about her pants, somehow they remind me about a pair of similar ones with cow pattern she used some years ago. The hairdo is very flattering:)

HRH Princess Mathilde was today present at the university of Antwerpen were five honordoctorates were handed out. Carol Bellamy, leaving Head of UNICEF, received one. Princess Mathilde spoke about children suffering from HIV and AIDS and asked for special attention to this group. The pic is from FOTOMARKTPLATZ
