Well I feel happy to hear some good news, a little bit more positive than the one we had in previous days. Yet I'm still worried and praying.

Post medical bulletin

(this is the last Rainier's medical bulletin
It's a little reassuring but We must pray and believe for The Prince Rainier.)

March 28, 2005

Prince Rainier III of Monaco is conscious and his heart, lung and kidney functions have stabilised, the royal palace said yesterday.

He is breathing with the aid of a respirator.

The announcement came a day after the palace said three doctors for the 81-year-old monarch, Europe's longest-serving ruler, had issued the most pessimistic report yet on his prospects for survival.

"The cardiac, lung and kidney functions that did not stop deteriorating have stabilised," the palace said in a health bulletin, signed by three doctors.

Rainier "is conscious, but under sedation, which allows him to withstand respiratory assistance that is absolutely indispensable," it said.

The prince's prognosis remains "very reserved", the palace said - apparently a notch less severe than the "extremely reserved" judgement given by doctors on Saturday.

Rainier's health "remains very worrisome," it added.

The news of improvement came as worshippers in Monaco attended Easter Mass with a special prayer for Rainier, who has been bedridden in a hospital's intensive care unit since Tuesday.

Rainier, who has suffered ill health in recent years, was hospitalised at the Cardio-Thoracic Centre on March 7 with a chest infection. He was transferred to the intensive care unit last Tuesday when his health took a sudden turn for the worse.

Rainier, who has ruled Monaco since 1949, is beloved in the tiny principality he transformed into a modern and elegant enclave for the rich.

His family, the Grimaldis, have ruled Monaco for more than 700 years. His son Albert, 47, long groomed to take Rainier's mantle as monarch, would take the title His Serene Highness. Albert's sister, Princess Caroline, 48, would be next in line to the throne, followed by her eldest son, Andrea, now 20.

Princess Grace, who died in a 1982 car crash, is buried in the crypt of the 19th century cathedral that sits on a hilltop overlooking the Mediterranean not far from the palace.

All the news I've read today sounds promising.. let's keep praying....
Last night on the news TF1 shows video of Monaco from Friday and it showed a video of Caroline, Albert, and Ernst on the balcony... it was touching seeing Caroline cross herself on video... it's much different than pictures....

Now that the end of PRanier's reign is near I am starting to focus on PALbert a bit more. However my focus is in a cynical light in that I really think that sometime in history he should have puckered up, married, had kids, and, if needs be, gotten a divorce-but still have an heir and a spare. Anyway I didn't mean to get off topic. WEll I hope that PRanier can look back at the wonderful memories and that that will be his comfort.

MONACO (CNN) -- Prince Rainier, the ruler of Monaco, has regained consciousness and the functions of his vital organs has stabilized, according to the royal palace. Rainier, the world's second-longest reigning monarch, remains under heavy medication in an intensive care unit at a Monte Carlo hospital where he moved six days ago, and is breathing with aid of a respirator, a spokesman told CNN Sunday.Family members were visiting the 81-year-old prince, whose American movie star wife Grace Kelly died in 1982, the spokesman added."The cardiac, lung and kidney functions that did not stop deteriorating have stabilized," the palace said in a new health bulletin, signed by three doctors.Rainier "is conscious, but under sedation, which allows him to withstand respiratory assistance that is absolutely indispensable," it said.

----He is doing better than he was a few days ago so that is good. I hope he recovers and regains his health. The full story can be found here:

I am a little confused...The Sun magazine is reporting that Prince Ranier was "clinically dead" on Friday...and then goes on to say that he will be allowed to die after Easter is over...and mentions his funeral is set for April 4th. I don't know what to believe...I'll try to post the article:

MONACO’S Prince Rainier was said to be “clinically dead” yesterday — kept alive on a respirator only until hordes of holidaymakers have quit the casinos after the Easter break.

When Rainier officially dies, the population of 32,000 will go into mourning and businesses will close.

The 81-year-old ruler of the tiny Mediterranean gamblers’ paradise was rushed to hospital with an acute lung infection three weeks ago.

An insider said: “Medically, he died on Friday in that it became impossible for him to make a recovery. He is being kept alive by breathing equipment and will be allowed to die peacefully after Easter.”

Thousands of tourists are currently staying in Monaco, a tax haven ruled by the Grimaldi family for 700 years. The prince married film star Grace Kelly in 1956. She had three children before her death in a car crash in 1982. Princess Stephanie, 40, Princess Caroline, 48, and the heir to the throne Prince Albert, 47, were at their father’s bedside last night. Rainier’s funeral is expected on April 4.

I read somewhere that Monaco was criticized to have postponed the news of Rainier's death after Easter because they did not want to lose the money genereated during the Easter break as many tourists were there during the past weekend. If they had officially annouced his death before Monday, businesses would have been closed.

Monaco's Rainier in stable but worrying condition
MONACO, March 28 (Reuters) - The health of Europe's longest-reigning monarch, Prince Rainier of Monaco, was stable but "still worrying" on Monday, doctors said in a statement.
"Under the influence of treatment and with the possibility of using kidney dialysis, the deterioration of the principal organs is no longer progressing," doctors said in a statement.

But they were cautious about the prince's prospects and said he was still receiving assistance with his breathing.
I posted my Dad had renal failure. He went up and down for a month and a half in and out of the hospital and nursing home. We were told the same things you have been reading about Rainier. I heard twice he wasn't going to make it but within days he was awake and trying to walk again. When his respirator was removed he moved his hand twice pulling it out of mine before he passed away. Rainier apparently has a strong will to live and fights even with his heart condition. Mine didn't have the problems Rainier does with his heart. Rainier has the best Doctor's around. As long as there is brain activity and a chance they will keep him going. My Dad didn't have a Living Will so we had to give the go ahead to let him go. Unless Rainier has one I wouldn't want to be in Albert's position. Things can go up and down from now on with him.

Pay attention only to what the Palace says right now all of us should know what the rumor mill is like. Insider Sources are also rumors. But it was logical for them to keep him going to get through the holiday. It could also be possible they were considering removing the respirator. I am sure we have people reading this in the medical field that could explain the process better then me for those of you wondering and worried.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Gimaldi family and for those of you concerned may you find comfort from the words of each of us who also care. We are like an extended family in the Forum and its showing from the posts. Rejoice in the love we have one for another and share the gift of life. Everyone show your support and use the candle avatar Julia made for us. Give strength and hope even to one another. Sorry kids Mom will I will be quiet again.
