Georges Marsan, the Mayor of Monaco and childhood friend of the Prince, communicated his New Year wishes to the people of Monaco in the Monegasque language:
"I nostri augüri per l'anu noevu" - sounds more like Italian, but keep it up anyway !!
Amongst the Mayor's projects for the New Year is a "micro-crèche" for babies, alongside the creche for slightly older children; a Tele-Alarm systen for 500 older monegasques; and creating more space for the burying of ashes; and - the main project: A market hall at La Condamine.

You are right Renata, it sounds Italian because the real Monegasque language is the dialect of Liguria, an Italian Region: all dialects between the Italian border and Nice area have their origin in Italy, we should not forget that the area was Italian many years ago. In Italian the wishes would be: I nostri auguri per l'anno nuovo! almost the same! and if we speak to a Monegasque we understand what they say...

So the Monagasque Dialect is an Italian dialect is that correct!! We were under the wrong assumption it was French. In any case it is a wonderful dialect when PA speaks he generally uses French so we assumed most were French as well

In France a "micro-crèche" is a small nursery for children under the age of six years old. A micro-crèche is usually run by two or three professionals (with a minimum requirement of two years experience) caring for (in the ones I've seen) about nine children in total (hence "micro", they are small establishments usually). They are particularly popular at the moment in rural France, where employment for women is on the rise. They are also helpful in small municipalities that have no need for a traditional crèche, which requires a minimum of eighteen children. A lot of parents also find the flexibility micro-crèches offer particularly appealing, as many of them are open from 7AM until 8.30PM. They also address the rather severe lack of childcare facilities in France. The government aims to create between 200,000 and 400,000 extra facilities by 2012 and micro-crèches certainly help to fill that gap, as they are easy to set up and inexpensive.
Hope this helps

Hi DueDePhiladelphia,
sorry I didn't answer your question, but the time difference means I was asleep when you posted it - it was 11.46 pm, almost midnight.
Since then, two more posts have arrived, and it's now 7.19 in the morning here in Edinburgh! :-))
Just a postscript to the word "crèche" which is a French word used by English speakers, meaning "crib" (similar to German "Krippe").
In Italian there are two possible translations: "asilo" (crèche) and "presepio" (crib.
Am I right in thinking you are a native Italian speaker?

Prince Albert of Monaco during the last day of the World Future
Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi, November 21, 2010. He gave a
speech there and on pic 3 you can see him talking to a
handicapped Emirati who designed a solar powered wheelchair
- what an idea!

A few days ago I made reference to PA's football team, the "Barbajuans".
The team is named after a Monegasque speciality.
On the VisitMonaco site, there are some recipes including the Barbajuans!
There are also three recipes courtesy of the Société des Bains de Mer (SBM):
"Prince Albert Millefeuille Pastry with Strawberries and Whipped Cream"
"Asparagus Risotto with Jus de Viande"
and "Langoustines à la Provencale, cooked in a pot"

To me it's not clear whether Albert is still in Abu Dhabi
or if only the pictures were released today, because
the caption says:
" In a handout picture received from Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi on
January 25, 2010 shows Prince Albert II (C), a renowned Ferrari
fan, during an exclusive tour of the Gulf emirate's Ferrari World
theme park, set to open on Yas Island off Abu Dhabi in the second
half of the year. Prince Albert, a passionate car collector, was
offered a private tour inside the 86,000m2 park. "
However it's been during the last days

Either way, he'll have to be "in pole position" for Sainte Dévote on Tuesday evening !
Otherwise she might take revenge.....

Let us better not give it any thought
By the way I've found out that Albert has made that visit to
the facilities of the future Ferrari World Abu Dhabi yesterday,
January 24! So he stayed a bit longer there.

Does anyone know when (or if) we'll get photos of Albert at the charity football match in Monte Carlo? There's a photo on Belga of Michael Schumacher waving to his daughter and it says in the caption that Albert will (or was?) playing too. Anyone know?

Perhaps the pics were put up a little later than the occurence of the event or someone fudged on the dates?! it happens! Although if PA was playing it would have been wonderful to have pics of the event or maybe they will post later

Whoa, never mind. I got the dates totally wrong. Turns out it was a photo from eleven years ago, but it was posted today. Or something like that. Sorry everyone!

I think she's a representative of the whole company or a
translator, there's no information given.
Thecia, you've obviously found old pics as you've later noticed
yourself, the latest charity football match in Monaco has been
the one during the Circus Festival last week, but Prince Albert
only watched it this time. Next chance to maybe see him play
will be the charity football match between racing drivers and
celebrities prior to the Formula One Grand Prix of Monaco in
May
