Please note that the Monaco moderators have opened a new Current Events thread for Albert and Charlene, which can be found here http://www.theroyalforums.com/forums/f13/prince-albert-monaco-charlene-wittstock-current-events-part-1-a-13185.html .

In the future, please posts all pictures, articles, and comments about events where they BOTH attend to the new current events thread. In regards to their separate current events thread, it should be used to post events that only pertain to them as Charlene or Albert NOT Charlene and Albert.

Please feel free to contact any of the Monaco moderators or the Administrators if you have any questions.

Thank you.

I guess that will be up to Albert. His sister Caroline choose to keep it low key and if she had one at all it was just family. She kept to her schedule presenting a speech before I believe the Belgium (?) Parliment on childrens' issues and when asked what she was doing for her birthday is said to have commented something to the effect of hopefully doing something useful.

I don't think that anything will be done, except private and there will be an official present from parliament and mayor/monegasques. Besides who would come. Most royals send their B and C list, others didn't show at all for the ascension, whom would they send for the birthday? Their valets and chambermaids? As long as Albert doesn't work on his reputation and show himself as a respectable man, I doubt that anyone would be interested to come to any event. I doubt that even if he organized a wedding that there would be A list royals showing. Not with his reputation and history.

When was the last time an A list royal came to Monaco and for what occasion?

When /if a wedding is coming, perhaps it won't happen for a long time and he will have done his job...

If by A list you mean other reigning European monarchs, wellthey generally do not attend the enthronement ceremonies of other monarchs. Check out the guests at Elizabeth II coronation...no reigning monarchs in attendance with the exception of colonial kings/sultans/chiefs from the then British Empire. European monarchs were represented by other members of their family. Greece for example sent Prince George and Princess Marie. Interestingly she was bored by the whole thing and offered to psychoanalyse the man sitting beside her....Francois Mitterand representing the French government.

Thank you for adding that information as it clearly separates out enthronement ceremonies from funerals as to protocol. paca does make a good point about respect. Albert is viewed as a light weight and photos of his partying and flying around with Charlene do not help this image. I realize one can not control the press but he needs to be seen as doing his job at home not just a man of the photo op as he is being portrayed. In fairness it is difficult to change one's image but he has got to start doing something about it or else all the protocol in the world won't save him from what we are currently seeing. He has a good PR woman in place but if he doesn't listen to her what good can she do? The party shots with girls have to go away for a while it over shadows everything else but that's JMO.

On Wednesday, 11 July 2007, Prince Albert honored two more Ambassadors to Monaco. These two additional ambassadors increase the total to 23 counties who now have accredited Ambassadors representing Monaco.

Malta Ambassador
In the early morning of Wednesday 11th July in the Prince’s Palace, the ceremony took place in which H.E. Mrs Victoria Ann Cremona, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Malta handed over her letters of credence.
Here’s the link to the article.

El Salvador Ambassador
In the late morning of Wednesday 11th July in the Prince’s Palace, the ceremony took place in which H.E. Mr Joaquim Rodezno Munguia, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of El Salvador handed over his letters of credence.

Here’s the link to the article.

he does look good in the photos, it looks like he's lost alot of weight and looks much better in his suits. he was beginning to look like one of those fat cats in washington, bloated from too much rich food and champagne.

There are several concerts during the summer in the palace. Last years was the one briefly befor red cross which they attended together which happened to be on Charlottes birthday and the philharmonics played happy birthday. While Charlottes boyfriend was seated below their box, Charlene was in the back of the box. Already odd way of handling protocol as Charlenes place would have been down with Felix. Anyways that was the only concert that any of the family attended. Rainier used to be more frequently present. That's one reason people were attracted to it. But then again, last year Albert was hardly here. Maybe this year will be different as he seems to have decided that he needs to be closer to home or that he has opened plenty of embassies to last for a while.....

My Adia, thanks again for the info. The guy in the second pic at the signature is Philip Deslandes who is now prefect of Champagne-Ardenne. He was the one who actually dared to criticize Albert after his first appearance with Charlene briefly after the Olympics. I knew that I knew the face . At least Albert doesn't seem to be carrying grudges .

Here’s an article of the signing proceding and here’s a video of Albert attending the conference (from the right side under date 17 julliet, select SIGNATURE CONVENTION.wmv if it doesn’t play automatically).

I remember that discussion when you posted Deslandes' interview. Although he didn’t mention Charlene’s name directly in his interview, it was clear to some of us that he was taking a jab at Albert in his comments about the difference in Albert’s work ethic from his father. While he did acknowledge that he understood that Albert had to fulfil his Olympic obligations, it probably didn’t look well back home when everyone saw the headlines of Albert with this young blond fawning all over him for days in the stadium and read her comments about Turin is a great place for a "lover’s holiday." I bet Albert's IOC obligations didn’t look quite like work after those headlines. Also, I remembered Deslandes' comment that his greatest accomplishment was the high educational attainment of Monegasques. This year Monaco had another high success rate on its BAC exams. Here’s an excerpt from the government’s website about the results that was reported on July 9th.

Quote:
Excellent Baccalaureate results for Monegasque students

As in most years, the pass rate for the baccalaureate is close to 100% in the Principality.

This year Monegasque students obtained excellent Baccalaureate results. The pass rate at the Albert I school was 98.1%, while at the François d’Assise Nicolas Barré it reached 100%, showing how education in Monaco is one of the best in the region, even in France.

Furthermore, the proportion of passes with distinction is up this year. From a total 251 students taking the exam (counting all subjects and schools), the Albert I school had 112 distinctions (out of 162 passes) including 9 “very good” (4 in sciences, 3 in economics and social studies and 2 in literature). As far as the François d’Assise Nicolas Barré school is concerned, 19 distinctions (out of 47 passes), there were 18 “quite good”, 1 “good” and no ”very good”.

Lckc571, Deslandes' interview is in this post. The discussion started in post #6 in the "Prince Albert Achievements" thread. It was a noble idea to start such a thread, unfortnately the thread is very short and got off track. Maybe we can resurrect it. So, you can start reading from that post, just click on the thread title at the top right hand corner once you read the post.
