I think that could also be seen as a kind of change, as turns a bit more
to charity than fashion - as far as it concerns her solo events/involvement.
But well, we'll see..

My thought is: sounds like Ms Wittstock is getting closer to being Princess of Monaco.
Looks like she is getting some charity experience. Good for her. This and the invite to the wedding sure shows me that Charlene is not wasting her time as Prince Albert's girlfriend.:flowers:

Might be, or it could be she's cutting loose to make more of a name for herself other than being known simply as an ex-swimmer or girlfriend of a Prince.

True. I do hope she tries to make a name for herself before tagging along with Albert permanently. I would hate to think she's doing all of this to up her name in society. But the question is "Will Albert every marry her?". If he does, I hope she knows that she can never fill Prince Grace's shoes, but she could be herself. Sometimes I feel like she imitating her.

I don't hear the wedding bells. She could be Princess of Monaco if PA wanted it. I don't expect miracles. Maybe these charity projects give her some experience however I don't know where she can do a lot of favours for people. I think there are more influental South African politicans and famous people than CW who could do necessery steps for those goals that CW would like to fight for. Maybe her body language tells us that she is more confident. She can show those people who endure her now that she is a lot more than PA's currently girlfriend.According to CrownPrincess5 I also have the same question."Will Albert every marry her"?

I'm not trying to criticise Charlene (although I suspect there will be some here who will jump) but I agree with Hibou. Something about her body language has changed as well. I have no idea what the significance of those two observations are but I think the observations are correct. :flowers:

I think Charlene is having the ride of her life and PA lets her have then so be it. In the eyes of his older royal peers WHOM HIS PARENTS HAS WON OVER FOR MONACO REPUTATION his status has probably went to zero. It must be that Grimaldi blood.. I always thought that Albert would follow his father and marry a suitable bride and have legal heirs long ago.
Even with the dress up and galas Charlene does not have that "it" factor going for her.
I bet it must speak wonders to other royals if Charlene had a occupation/ fortune of her own would she have stayed around like she has.

I recently read " INSIDE MONACO" a foriegner need a fortune( proof of account to the Monacos banks) to just rent a apartment there for a year.

Charlene may not have the "it" factor for you, but she seems to have it for PA.

You have to admit she has come a long way since meeting PA at the Turin Olympics, and she "scrubs up well" in my opinion.

this is true................ I did like that grey number she had on the other day. I just wish they lose that 1940's hairdo. She looks better in a up sweep or having hair down in a wave.:ermm:

But all Charlene is his escort that it. Nothing else that nothing to be happy about. Even when she is smiling she dying inside.

Let's not use this thread to bash Charlene.

This is a Current Events thread, and unless someone really knows her, let's not assume to speak for her or know what she is thinking or feeling.

i dont think that albert should put her in situations suited for the role of a wife/ fiancee ..it becomes a sticky situation unless he wants her for the long term....what if they break up? ...there should be some level-headedness ....

I'm not bashing Charlene I feel sorry for her.

I'm indifferent about CW. That said, I don't feel sorry for her. She's an adult capable of making her own decision. I think she's rather smart to use to her advantage the fact that PA is charmed with her regardless of how the relationship will turn out, i.e., marriage or no marriage. Just my two cents.

Rarotonga, I agree with your view of "the situation", though I can't say I'm indifferent to CW. She's a nice young woman when all is said and done, and as long as she is an asset to PA and Monaco, everyone will accept the status quo, I think.

Previous posters have perhaps invested more emotions in their assessment of CW.

But I can't understand how any of us could possibly know whether or not Charlene is "dying inside" and similar turns of phrase.

We await CW's appearance at the wedding of PC Victoria in Sweden then...June is just around the corner.

It seems like they have worked out something that works for him, for her, and for Monaco. There might come a time when it no longer works and things fade into something else, but for now it works. I imagine that there are a lot of dynamics in the field to work around/with, some political ones, and some personal and *interpersonal* (outside the couple) ones. They're playing chess, and we await their next move. For now, it looks like a long wait.

Will indeed be interesting if she goes to Sweden. :)

Dress is pretty, hairdo is weird, seems like 1940s or 1950s style. Is Charlene trying to look like Grace?:ROFLMAO:

Charlene's figure type is quite different than that of Grace's and so are her features. No one except Grace reminds me of her... jmo.. especially not Charlene who has her own persona; physically and otherwise.

I agree with Jaya. I cannot see any resemblance whatsoever between Grace and Charlene, apart from the fact that they are/were both female!

Charlene is her own woman, and will surely continue to be that.

For the present, she seems to have what she wants....

Charlene will never be another Grace. This week´s Point de Vue calls her Monaco´s first lady. For me now that Princess Grace has gone there is only one first lady and that is Princess Caroline. Things could change and Albert marry, but as that hasn´t happened yet , surely Princess Caroline takes precedence.

I have to agree with you wisteria. Princess Caroline is the matriarch of the family now and the First Lady. Should Pa decide to marry Charlene that will change the hierarchy and probably place her where Point De Vue says.

Princess Caroline for me atm stands as the First Lady. I presume that will change when and if Albert marries.

Charlene Wittstock, future princesse de Monaco : "Je ressens beaucoup de joie et d’émotion" - prince albert II de monaco, interview, fiancailles
http://www.nicematin.com/article/actualites/charlene-entretien-exclusif

Your engagement was officially announced June 23, 2010, do you feel?

I feel great joy and emotion as you can imagine. I know it is an important moment for the people of Monaco. I'll do anything to be worthy of its expectations.

You imagine yourself already in your role as Princess?

For over four years, I learned about Monaco, its different populations - there are over 124 nationalities - and I really love this country. I'm still better appreciate its specificities, its traditions, its history. But deep in my heart, my country already.

What struck you most arriving in Monaco?

I think I was very fortunate to discover in Monaco alongside the person who knows best (smile). But above all his incredible openness to the world and its incomparable generosity. I know that the country in Europe which gives the most per capita for humanitarian causes. This spirit of generosity is the first characteristic of the population and the many actions that are taken can only give pride to residents.

Do you intend to invest in a humanitarian cause, a foundation?

Since my teens, I have been busy sharing what I could do. In South Africa, very young, I used to help disadvantaged children learn to swim. I really got from them. At this point I realized that giving was the most beautiful gesture that we can do. In Monaco, I want to get involved in defending a cause dedicated to children and in which sport has its place.

We saw you next to Nelson Mandela and more recently you have supported the Mandela Day. What does this mean to you?

I remember back in 1995 during the Rugby World Cup in South Africa, Nelson Mandela was on the ground with a polo Springbok representing unity and freedom within our country. The same year, he launched the Children Foundation. I was then 17 years. I admire Nelson Mandela for his courage, he changed the course of history. The suffering he has borne makes him a unique person. This is why I am so proud of my contribution to the Fund of Nelson Mandela. However, the work is just beginning and he has many things to do.

What is the importance of organizing the World Cup Soccer in South Africa?

This is the first time in history that Africa receives a global event as important and I am very happy.

What relationships do you have with your family?

We are a very united family. Gareth, Sean and myself have been educated with the same values, those that sport has given us. This gave us a lot of balance. Sport is a family heirloom: my uncle led the Springboks team and my mother was a high level sport. It was a simple family life, healthy, with strong links between us. This is very structured.

What are the passions that you share with Prince Albert?

Priority, that of sport is that it allowed us to know ourselves. But we're both philanthropists people, we like to go to meet others, we have the same interest in understanding what is happening in the world and the same willingness to help others. But we also subjects on which we do not agree!

Which?

Let me protect my secret garden ...

You now have an official status, what is different for you today?

I am aware of the responsibilities imposed on me that my official status. I will continue to familiarize myself with the daily habits and customs of the Principality, the protocol and rules of the Palace to prepare myself to best accomplish the mission confided to me that the prince at her side.

I do love the picture in that article.

Sadly, the translation "by Charlene Lynette Wittstock" leaves a great deal to be desired.
