I hope I am wrong, but I wouldn't be surprised if there is an announcement from the Palace after the holidays.

Re: her training. 2 1/2 hours in South Africa and less when in Monaco? Unless she is using the pool in Monaco as her private training ground -- she has no intention in competing in Beijing.
The pool in Monaco is indefinetely closed (unless it is for her and then you will see some people get unpopular) due to technical reasons. 2 1/2 hours is not enough for anyone who wants to do competitive swimming. I have seen 10 year olds do more then that besides their school hours. What engagements does she have in Monaco besides being at Alberts disposal? She has no official function and se is kept underwraps because she is highly unpopular and damaging to Alberts image in Monaco, where he currently has a very difficult political stand. With her in an official picture, he might as well resign from the state of things. They are trying hard to boost him PR wise but we have seen these short lived efforts over last year a lot, so he will have to prove he is serious and not just serious every few months.

I think people are misquoting what her father said and what some un-named source close to the Grimaldis said. Bunte does make a lot of things up, but normally most of these magazines are pretty good with their direct quotes (in quotation marks) attributed to a named person. I didn't post the entire article because of board restrictions, but since Bunte normally post these on their website, it may be ok. I have to go, but maybe someone else can do the translation. I guess if you use a translator and do the translation, you can remove the original German article. The bottom states what pictures are included in the article, but I cannot post the pictures.

Charlene Wittstock and Prince Albert - they have been on vacation, but an engagement has not taken place yet

Some fairy tales do not have a happy end. This one perhaps, too. When some people in Monaco were still hoping to see Charlene Wittstock, 28, with Prince Albert side by side on the palace balcony on National Day, November 19, the dream had already a shadow. "She is in Monaco", said a Palace insider, "but as long the Prince is not engaged with her, protocoll forbids her to be on the balcony."

That is understandable. But the beautiful South African has not been seen anywhere else. The last appearance together was in August - rumours that the couple has split are coming up. BUNTE asked Charlene's father, entrepreneur Michael Wittstock. If he knows how is daughter is and her love? His answer: "The two have been in New York two weeks ago and then flew to Florida and the Bahamas. It seems that everything is all right."

Does hope die at last or is a loving father only putting up a brave front?

A Grimaldi-confidant is impressed by Charlene, but that is exactly why he thinks that there will be no wedding: "She is very independent, lives her own live and you cannot buy her - neither with jewellry nor with clothes. Look what cheap outfits she wore when she was with him. She bought them herself! This woman will not make compromises to become a Princess. It is not a secret that Albert loves to flirt and she wants him to concentrate only on her and that he swears that. But MOnaco really needs a new Princess. It is a principality without glitter and glamour at the moment."

Charlene shows her strong will in a sportive way: She, who was fifth at teh Olypmic Games in Sydney, is trainign again since Sunday in Richards Bay, 400 km from Johannesborg. She allowed BUNTE to take photos of herself and her trainer Branny Ivkovic.

"It is Charlene's dream to take part in the Olympic Games in 2008 in Peking", says Ivkovic. "Here in Richards Bay she is swimming two and a half hours every day. In Monaco she only swims two because of all these engagements. I hope that she is fit for our championship in April and that she will qualify."

so her trainer really thinks she's going to make it to the OLYMPICS after she travels so much around the globe. let's be serious...if she makes it is because of albert's connections. we're not there to see what she actually does when the April competition will take place…

The Olympic story is a FRONT. The whole "independent woman" thing is a PR concoction.
Charlene's gold medal with be Princess Grace's tiara.

Is this guy out of his mind? How does anyone think she can get to the Olympics by only doing two and a half hours or less per day in the pool (because of "all these engagements") . Plus, how much time does she spend in the weight room or doing aerobic work out of the pool. Cut me a break.:ermm: :bang:

Right. When I read 2.5 hours, I snorted. No serious athlete would admit to doing so little. Many spend 6 hours a day every day just to qualify. The whole olympic story is just to throw everyone off. She will try to qualify and she will not. The point is, though, to make it LOOK like she's serious. I wonder what her relay team thinks of her effort?

even 6 hours isn't much. 6 hours maybe for their specific discipline, but there are a lot of other things like general fitness, weights and also relax/cool down ( which is like a regular workout to normal people). As a child I used to spend about 4 hours a day on the sportsgrounds plus swimming, bking and all the other running around that children do. If Charlene thinks she can fool anyone into believing that she is seriously preparing for the Olympics she is dimmer then I thought. If with that sort of preparation se qualifies, then better order some intensive doping control. And that will look just great on Mr Honesty when his girlfriend is found guilty of doping, but I suppose she will come up with a useful injury in time.

In Monaco schafft sie nur zwei - zu viele Verpflichtungen.
Ermm, what obligations exactly? Unless she tends to Albert for 12 hours or more a day, I wouldn't mind knowing what obligations she can have. She's nothing and nobody so what obligations can she perform while in Monaco?

On the other hand, if the pool is closed does that mean she can't come to Monaco anymore because she can't practice? In that case I might have to go down there personally and pull the pool plug myself. I'll promise to be a good girl and take the plug home with me.... ;)

No Ghislaine. I think the implication is that the pool is just fine. It is closed to the public so she can privately train there. This is all speculation of course.;)

For all we know...should could be studying for her GED or something. Of course...she has no official obligations in Monaco.

I'm still surprised that if Charlene was indeed at Princess grace Awards gala, no pictures surfaced; there were supposedly many private pics taken during event. Someone would try to sell them &many tabloids would love to have them to keep "marriage story' going.
And it looks our Charlene is training very hard to participate in olympics. :ROFLMAO:

I agree with you Burberry. Part of me wonders if he intended to keep this relationship quiet all along but they got caught by the media at the Olympics and then the frenzy following the Maldives vacation. If this relationship is nothing more than a pleasant distraction, then it does make sense that she would then "disappear" for months at a time. I guess he had to take her to a couple of public events once they were "outed" as a couple.

I wonder if they are an "on again-off again" couple? I knew couples like that and they were on and off more than a lightswitch. They actually like to fight and break up just to get back together much to the horror and amusement of everyone around them.
I really don't think Albert wanted no one to know about CW. He trotted her about in Turin and was introducing her to members of the IOC (supposedly). There were lots of pictures of her with a big grin on her face there.

Albert and everyone around him knows the media will climb all over him and whoever he is involved with for sure. They know that and he knows it too, it's not like they don't have a lifetime of experience with how that works.

If he really had wanted CW to stay low, and for his personal love life to be truly private then he would have at least handled that situation differently. :)

Sounds like that makes sense to me. It's hard to make the Olympic team -- it's extremely competitive (obviously, I don't know about South Africa swim team competitive process because CW went with no formal education and it would be exceedingly difficulty to do that in most other places that I know of).

There are other athletes who made the Olympic team based on their connections (I don't know anyone personally, but years ago I remember an aging american tennis player named Chris Everett got some other younger player bumped and that younger player had obviously worked very hard to make the squad, but the old lady pushed him out of the spot because she wanted to go -- publicity, name recognition, connections all worked for her and she made the team like that). If I was the athlete that had been pushed from my spot like that I would have been so pissed (really)!

I would not want to be 'in love' with a man who made such a plain statement to the press that he had no intentions to marry anyone not now or later and then it was shown he was in pictures cozy with another woman. I would just have take a deep breath and keep my chin up and to try hard to force myself to go the other way from him. Who needs that???

Maybe CW really does not care if Albert messing around with other women, just whenever he's with her is most important and so what to whatever he does when not in her presence.

If he's actually helping CW with a place to live, finding money and some kind of nice work arrangement, maybe she is just fine with anything else and grateful to have that.

That might be her only chance to actually get there. I am sure that the other South African swimmers with Olympic ambitions are training much harder and are much more focused ( and probably about 10 years younger) then Charlene. From what I can tell about the Monaco swimmers, they seem to be training more then her as well. You can often watch them as the smaller ones are having their lessons. They seem to spend every spare minute they have in the pool AND they attend school.

I would expect any serious athlete to show that kind of focus, even from a young age too. But I agree, she may as well use all the resources she can muster to make something for herself. Maybe after she can be a coach or something there (or somewhere). Albert knows people.

So, time will tell if it is the case or not. If she plays her cards right, knowing Albert gets her a spot onto an olympic team in Monaco, especially since the SA squad has been actively working hard and competing all over the world since very early this year without her...

Let's face it she's really not training. As everyone said it appears that she isn't putting in the time. What I'm afraid of is that she will get pregnant. Albert will have to marry this one or reallly look like a you know what. He was able to explain Tamara as an oops. Nicole, well it was over... Now with the news that Charlene is still around he would have a hard time explaining this one away if it should happen. JMO

Let's hope he had some lessons about the facts of life and how to protect yourself...

Although there is only one thing worse then his marrying Charlene....

Him marrying a pregnant Charlene....

We already had the E list of Royalty for his enthronement, whom will the other families have to digg up for that event?

That would certainly be one for the books, wouldn't it???

We've seen things occur with other princes that raised a few eyebrows in recent years. I bet our Albie could somehow top them all still:).

Just when you think you've seen it all...

Could it get worse than that?

Nooooo, don´t give her ideas!!!:bang: :bang: I admit this is all very strange, that there are still rumours about her:unsure:. If she´s waiting for Albert to decide she could have neither the medal nor the tiara.

Well he does date the same type of women, & still can't seem to cut them loose when he should. I don't see why it shouldn't be the same outcome. Charlene is positioned better for the prize she wants & he seems to make it pretty easy for them. In spite of them causing him trouble they're what he likes so it seems. Charlene probably can manage the job more than he can prevent it. If she wasn't in the running we know she wouldn't be quiet. I don't want to imagine what she will be like if she's successful. I'm just disappointed he shows know interest in woman that have the grace & integrity of his mother or just some degree of grace &/or integrity.

She's playing the game very well. I can't believe she's still around. When I look at women like her--not exceptionally pretty, boring, manly looking--it makes me wonder how she even got close enough to Albert to make him notice her? I know that sounds horrible, but what's so special about her? Forgive this quote but I was watching Pride and Prejudice 2 nights ago: "Are the shades of [Monaco] to be thus polluted?"

Can Albert be this stupid? I can't believe he waits for all these years for the right woman but he settles for Charlene. What was the point? It's time to start praying to St. Devote again. And I'm not even Catholique.

The only thing I agree with Dad on is Monaco needs a princess. But, Charlene is not the one.

Hello
My first post on this forum. But I have been lurking in the background. Been hidden, but not in the Monaco palace I'm afriad.

I agree that Charlene isn't very glamorous or exceptionally pretty and don't have the same panache as Grace Kelly. But what makes Albert so special? He is much older than her, bald, have strings of illegitemate children. He has a weird attitude to woman.
To her credit I think she is a much better person than Caroline's husband and Stephanie's bodyguard/circus performer partners.
A few months ago in one of our local (South African) magazines they showed her grandmother and a few other pictures of her family. The seem to be decent loving people.

I would rather prefer an old fashioned (boring) Princess than a Princess with an out of wedlock child, an anullment, and a love of only all things Australian.
But then again, its the glitz and glamour, drama and scandal that is a big attraction in Monaco.

Welcome Johan. I agree with everything that you stated in the above quote except that I think that there is obviously something special about Prince Albert. And yes, Charlene probably does come from decent loving people, as most people do. But may I ask you this one question? If Prince Albert isn't "so special", "bald", "much older than her", "have strings of illegitemate children", and "has a weird attitude to woman", why do you think your fellow South African who probably does come from a decent and loving family is still with him?

Welcome, Johan...
I don't think that anyone thinks Charlene is a bad person and for that matter neither is Mette-Marit, Letizia, or Mary. However, we think Charlene is a bit misguided and would be better served if she and her family just kept quiet.

First, if Charlene were a friend of mine and I knew that the man she was allegedly head over heels in love with was publicly fondling and kissing other women, I'd tell her to run as fast as her legs can carry her away from him. I've watched too many of my friends go through this only to end up at their houses opening the wine and passing the Kleenex because Mr. Perfect dumped them again. I don't care if he is a prince: a real prince of a guy would treat you respectfully.

Second, while I don't doubt that her family, particularly her father, is trying to protect Charlene, he's not doing a very good job at it and therefore should just keep quiet. Don't fight every fight or only the fights that you think you can win: fight the fights that need fighting. The clothes comment should have gone unheeded. Albert still looks like he is buying Charlene with fancy vacations and invites to exclusive parties.

If she can survive all of this once the bloom is off the rose, so to speak, more power to her. But my main concern is that Charlene is putting all of her hopes on Albert's marrying her out of desperation. If she is truly a good person who deserves all of the truly good things and happiness that life can bring, why is she putting herself through this with someone who doesn't deserve her?????

Again, JMO, and these are the same things that I would tell my own friends.

Welcome and glad to have you on board. I think the problem with Charlene is that she has not behaved in the way many people thought a future princess should behave in publc. Over the past several months there have been photos and discussions of this. I don't think it has anything to do with her family. I think people want to see a more polished and emotionally mature women in the role because Albert is head of state. Caroline has had her problems and stephanie well she is further down on the line to be head of state so I think people just accept who she is as a person. There is clearly a double standard for those in the public eye but I don't think anyone want's or expects as replacement blonde for Princess Grace who was one of a kind. JMO.
