This sounds like a nice event. Its also good to hear that Haakon & MM are joining in even though its ML's patronage.

Today, King Harald hosted a reception at the Royal Palace for recipients of the King's Medal of Merit, which CP Mette-Marit attended as well.

No photos unfortunately, but an article where one of the recipients talks about it.

No it will not. Every year the political party SV put forward a motion to have the monarchy dissolved. Every year they are out voted in the Parliament! The new thing this year was that they had some people from other parties agreeing with them and a new motion was put forward. This one a little different as the motion wanted action to be taken to figure out what kind of republic Norway is to have if one day the monarchy is no more. This motion was also by the large majority of the parliament out voted. So there will be no motion to dissolve the monarchy or finding out which republic formula (example as the US or Finland/Iceland) is suited best for Norway.

The royal family, royal house and institution have much respect from both the people and the parliament and government. Big political changes will be needed for this to change. We have a loved King who does a remarkable job. The Crown Prince is believed to keep up the good work and evolve the monarchy in modern times. Overall the family is much loved and respected.

Of course there will always be people who want the monarchy dissolved because they feel a head of state should always be elected in a democracy. But they are nowhere near being a majority. Most of these have no personal disregard or ill will towards the members of the royal family. Others have little respect for them. But mostly people who want a republic have a problem with the hereditary system. The core and most important issue is that they wnat to elect the head of state in free elections. They feel it is too important an potition and one that should not be hereditary, but solely chosen by the people.

Thanks for this explanation!! :flowers: I wasn't sure, how is now the situation with the royals and the norwegian people, sometimes you can read very critical opinions about the CP-couple and I thought maybe they won't get the chance to be the next King and Queen of Norway...

In the last years it was only King (and Queen) who were present, so a bit of a surprise that CP Mette-Marit joined him this week.
Last time the younger generation took part in these receptions was in 2004/2005 (according to image archive), when CP Haakon was regent due to King Harald's illness.

A great event coming:
Princess Märtha Louise, CP Haakon and CP Mette-Marit will participate in the "50. Ridderrenn" in Beitostølen on April 13, 2013. Up to 500 disabled people from 15 nations are participating in the skiing race, of which Princess Märtha Louise is patron of.
CP Haakon will be a companion for one of the participants, who runs 20 kilometers, while CP Mette-Marit and Princess Märtha Louise will be companions in the 5-kilometer course.

You can read more about it here Oppland - Kongelige ledsagere i det 50. Ridderrenn

They updated the press release about the photosession with the CP Family. I'm looking forward to seeing the family together :flowers:

Love the press release, very practical:
"Please note that times may vary depending on the finish, etc. and ask for understanding. It is not necessary for the press to ski - you can walk to where the shooting will take place, but winter boots and thick socks are recommended." :D

Here is a plan for the day (from this press release http://www.kongehuset.no/artikkel.html?tid=114647&sek=112472).

I really miss Marius in these photosessions but I guess now that he is 16 he can opt not to be a part of publicity shots etc. He is old enough to decide whether he wants a more private life or not.

Nonetheless the photos are lovely and it looks like the family had a lovely day together.

Or maybe he was spending time with his father. He still participates a lot in events with the whole family, unless he is with his father, so I'm betting on that.

Thank you all for so many great links :)

Wonderful family photos both during the event and at the photo-shoot. The children are growing up fast! They seem to be handling all the press and people around such an event very well. Though they have wuite many years of practice by now.

Crown Prince Haakon accompanied Helge Floland. Before the race the Crown Prince said he really had no chance of keeping up with Helge, so he hoped Helge would treat him kindly. Helge described the pace of the race to be one of leisure, and twenty minutes longer than his normal time, while the Crown Prince described it as tiring. They had decided beforehand that they were not aiming at any records.

Princess Martha accompanied Kjetil Nilsen and she told the press that they talked until they were around half way to the finish line, then it got silent on her part because she had to keep her focus to be able to keep up with Kjetil. In the speech she held before the race she said she hope her and the Crown Prince couple would not slow the contestans down.

Crown Princess Mette Marit accompanied Cathrine Nøttingnes and said it was a wonderful race and that Cathrine kept the pace slow enough for her. They talked and had a good time while skiing.

I love this kind of relaxed pix. Lovely family !

And another lovely video of the Ridderrenn ski race

"Before the Crown Prince and Princess went out on the 5-/20-mile course they gave each other a kiss on the starting line and wished each other good luck during the race."

What did he say that made the people laugh so much (in the middle of the video)? Did somebody understand it?

They’re laughing because the Crown Prince had trouble keeping a good pace, saying they skied in his pace and that the reporter is spot on when she says he looks tired. He says Helge (the man he accompanied) was patient with him and that he had no change to keep Helge's level, as Hlege is a better skier than him. Helge was asked if he was really the one leading the Crown Prince, but he said no and that he had just been out on a tur, an easy enjoyable skiing round and not a proper race.
