I agree with you. Personally, I don't think it's an issue how we engage in discovering our own spiritual path, or lack thereof.
Unfortunately, I don't think it's quite that easy when the person involved is the crown princess and a future queen. I'm not concerned about the religious aspect as to the financial one - are norwegians tax payers happy to pay for MM's personal spiritual journey?
I can't answer it, so I'm asking.

Its a personal trip and yes, protection is always around (at the expense of the taxpayers).
Taking such time off is quite unusual, especially considering the sabbatical of last year and the fact that MM doesnt really work much.

Thanks for the information!
I can not comment whether or nor such spiritual trips are detrimental to Crown Princess Mette-Marit's image. Norway seems not to mind these sabbaticals. However, I find her behaviour bizarre.

On the occasion of CP Mette-Marit's 39th birthday tomorrow (August 19) there will be a cannon salute from the Akershus fortress from 1-1.30pm.

that is quite interesting. in fact MM took time to study abroad in london just after she married, and later again last year a sabbatical to go study again. plus, this two "personal trips" to india. it's hard to judge as only norway and norwegians know whether this is appropriate, but as DOM says, MM's agenda is not very "full" in general when compared to her counterparts.

I share your views, DOM and carlota.
I personally wouldn't have many problems if a princess (MM or other) took a few days/weeks to travel (study, spiritual, sabatic, whatever) as long as I had the feeling she was working hard when at home. By working hard, I mean attending events and all the things other princesses seem to do. But that's not the feeling I have from Mette-Marit.
In general, I think this is not a big problem in Norway. At least that's what seemed to me when I lived there for half a year. Of course I didn't go and asked people about it, so who knows what their true opinion is... but they don't seem to do a big fuss about it. The only person who once talked about MM was a friend of mine and she said she liked her very much but I don't know how much she follows MM or wheter she knows about her trips or not, so...

The current Se og Hør-cover has small pictures of CP Mette-Marit and Ingrid Alexandra, which I assume are from the birthday festivities.

This week's Se og Hør-cover shows CP Mette-Marit going to a party with a guitar. It might have been at the last weekend. Unfortunately they don't have the article in the online edition of Se og Hør.

I think she's wearing that beautiful red dress she wore last year in Miami when she was at the Seaman's Church.

Thanks fairy tale! I'd love to see more photos of this party. Could someone scan them?

With a guitar?? I know that CP Haakon can play guitar, but I never thought, that also MM can it. But I don't think, that MM bring Haakon's guitar if Haakon is there anywhere. Haakon is always a polite gentleman, he would bring self it... So we can assume, that also MM can play it...
