The Regent-Couple are already in the region, yes. - They left Norway straight after the Opening of the Storting on October 2nd.

Will write a bit more about it in the ''State Visit to China'' thread in a few minutes.

Oh, I see! So they spend a few private days in China (perhaps to recover from the long trip and get used to the different climate...?) before the actual visit gets started!

Thanks iceflower!

Well, as I wrote in the two below posts a few weeks ago, the CP-Couple are currently in a ''good period'' when it comes to how they are portrayed in the Norwegian media:
CP Haakon as United Nation's Development Programme (UNDP) Ambassador

Annual County Visits

Because we have to remember that they were in a good period after the Regent Couple's 80th Birthday Celebrations last year as well (although not at the same level as we see now), until they messed it up for themselves again.

So my advice to them is:
1. Stay away from your politician-friends.
2. No more whining about the press when it comes to Marius.
3. And Haakon, for God's sake, don't use the court's money on organizations/conferences such as Global Dignity and SIKT. - Because it does nothing more than to stir up journalists and MPs in the Storting.
And here we go again!

Haakon, whyyyyyyyyyyy????

Thanks eya & iceflower!

Read more here about: Joachim Rønneberg (Wikipedia).

He received a funeral with government honour at state expense. - An honor usually given to leading statesmen, politicians, soldiers and, in rare cases, cultural workers as writers, actors, composers and athletes.
And as I've said before in other threads, no, it's not the same as a state funeral, which is only given to the royals (read about it in this post).

The funeral was sent live on NRK1 (the state owned Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation's and Norway's largest TV-Channel) from 11:55 to 13:55.

One can watch it here, when the link is ready.

English article by Oskar Aanmoen: Crown Prince Haakon attends the funeral of war hero, Joachim Rønneberg – Royal Central
Quote:
On Tuesday, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon of Norway attended the funeral of one of Norway’s greatest war heroes from the Second World War, Joachim Rønneberg. The funeral was held in clear, sunny weather in Aalesund in the western part of Norway where Rønneberg came from. Joachim was 99-years-old and died of old age at his local retirement home on 21 October. He leaves behind a nation’s gratitude, several children and grandchildren. His wife died in 2015.
Quote:
Joachim Rønneberg, who was a member of Kompani Linge from 1941 to 1945, is best known for leading the famous heavy water operation at Vemork in February 1943. Operation Gunnerside resulted in Rønneberg and his soldiers placing explosive charges on the massive water electrolysis chambers of the Vemork plant. A Thompson submachine gun was purposely left behind to indicate that this was the work of British forces and not of the local resistance, to try to avoid reprisals.

Thanks, Iceflower.

Yes, this is one of the largest NATO exercises for many years and it's aimed clearly at Russia.
Basically the purpose is to show Russia: We too can fight in the winter and we can ship combat troops to the Baltic countries very fast if we want to, so hands off!
The observant reader will of course point out that there is a considerable terrain difference between Norway and the Baltic countries!
Yeees, but there is no need to annoy the Russians too much by actually carrying out this exercise right on the Russian border and in countries with considerable Russian minorities.

Thank you for explaining, Muhler. Do you believe the attendance of the head of state and the heir to the throne is significant politically speaking?

No, not really.

It's merely to say hi to the troops and give them a pad on the shoulders for a job well done.
It's also a welcome and thank you to soldiers from other NATO countries.

It would be totally different if President Trump or the US Vice President went to the exercise. That would be a significant political signal.
