True, a newspaper said that at some points the Queen turned a bit emotional, when viewing her grandmothers paintings, drawings etc.
There was also a lovely picture in 'De Telegraaf' of Beatrix giving Prof. Pieter van Vollenhoven a stroke/caress on the cheek :) The picture of the two of them holding hands is nice as well. I wonder why Margriet wasn't there, still ill or otherwise engaged (as she lives around the corner of the palace and would have attended for sure if she didn't have anything else going on).

Wow Maxie, you're the best! How did you manage that?

--

Is the lady on the 8th picture (in green with the small pearls), posted by fanletizia Mrs. José van den Broek-van Schendel, wife of former euro commissioner Hans van den Broek and mother of Princess Marilene?

--

I believe usually some of the Roosevelts attend as well, so I wonder if one (or more) of the gentlemen on the pictures are the grandson(s) of Franklin Delano and Eleanor?

I really liked Maxima's spring-y green coat and its beautiful white embroidery. I think I would have liked the coat to be knee-length though. And the white trimmed pockets could have been placed more strategically than on her hips. Did the coat look a little big on her? Nice shoes, (no t-straps) her legs look really good.

I also think she needs to wear less makeup. And/or get some facial treatments to help with the sun-damage spots and wrinkles.

I prefer her with her hair pulled back when she wears a hat. Loose it looks a little messy.

If only she had smiled in this picture, it would have been perfect with a capital P!!

Maxima looked very nice, although she needs to stop wearing such shiny stockings!
Beatrix, what was with the pattern? It looked like my grandmother's curtains! And the ruffle at the bottom did nothing as well

Does anyone have a copy of Maxima's speech?

I like how Queen Beatrix always seems to be smiling in her photos, I liked Maxima was wearing, although i don't really like that colour normally as i find that it suits elderly people more than a young lady, but it still looked good.
Bit surprised with what the Queen wore, but not too bad.

Great picture Maxie!

Pieter seems to be a wonderful companion for Beatrix on her public duties. I always smile when I see them acting affectionately towards each other. Last year, about this time, I was watching live CBC coverage of the Queen, Margriet & Pieter attending a WWII memorial service. Margriet was off talking with some veterans & Pieter was escorting the Queen around. I nearly fell off my chair when the CBC commentator referred to Pieter as the Queen's husband.:D

i like maximas outfit and i find myself looking at QB lovely smiling face and don't even see the dress. she is such a special lady, u can see why the Dutch people love her so much, she just radiates warmth.
thanks for the photos

Well, welcome on board, Her_Majesty! I agree, the picture is lovely, and Pieter and Beatrix seem to be close to each other now. This was not always the case. Dorine Hermans wrote a book about Prof. Pieter van Vollenhoven a couple of years ago and according to this book Bernhard and Beatrix had their doubts about Pieter. For example: Juliana wanted to give Pieter a title, but Bernhard and Beatrix were against it.

Yeah I heard something like that ,too.;)
I even heard that Margriet said once: If she had to decide between her right to the throne or her marriage with Peter , she would have chosen the throne. (maybe because there was so much trouble these days, caused by the marriage of Irene and the engagement of Beatrix)...

You are right, Margriet said that out of respect for her parents she would have chosen the throne, as Irene already lost her rights to the throne and Christina was not inclined to ' help out' much either.
