I have a business contact who sent out the following email in regards to the
new ship and Queen Beatrix:

As the sun was shining on ms Eurodam in Rotterdam the dedication day festivities got under way to a standing room only crowd. The program began with a performance by the Manhattan Transfer singing group.

The arrival of Her Majesty Queen Beatrix was a highlight for all and there was a blessing from the reverend of the Rotterdam Seamen’s Church. President and CEO Stein Kruse welcomed Her Majesty and several special guests, followed by moving comments from Eurodam Captain Jeroen van Donselaar and Corrado Antonini, Chairman of Fincantieri.

The Eurodam bell was blessed by the Mariner Ambassadors. Her Majesty Queen Beatrix was then escorted on stage for the official naming and bottle break.

Inspiring musical performances by the world famous Opera Babes and the local Rotterdam Orchestra set the tone for the long anticipated event and it was truly an affair to remember.

I don't know how to download the photos, but QB looked wonderful, the sun was shining - the Queen greeted all of the crew - even the chefs!

Thanks for your friends report, pamk.. it got me wondering which 'opera babes' were there though ;).

Good to see HM in Arolsen, she never misses any event related to her family there. The hat is even more curious than usual though ;). Nice to have a good picture of the Fürstin of Waldeck-Pyrmont!

HM received,ao,the Credentials of the new US ambassador to The Netherlands,Mr.Jim B. Culbertson,at Noordeinde Palace today.

He will probably stay untill january after which there's the change of government in the US.

His main task,as he sees it,is to prepare the celebrations on occasion of 400 Years relations between the US and The Netherlands in 2009.

Hudson, employed by the dutch VOC first arrived in what was called Nieuw-Amsterdam

At the time after the Boston tea party and it's outcome,The Netherlands were the first to recognize the new Nation. It was mainly from the dutch antillean island of St.Eustatius or Statia, that the new nation fighting the brits were provided with arms & funds&food, and it was upon the arrival of a US warship at St,Eustatius a salute was fired from the fortress, thus acknowledging the new nation.

Mr.Culbertson believes not to many in both the US and here know about these long ties/relations.

A pity that HM did not attend the remembrance at the Monument of the Indies on August 15th btw. I know it means a lot for those who survived the Japanese concetration camps. HM has shown a lot of interest them of course, but I would like it if she would attend this memorial every year. Does anyvody know if she is represented by a lady-in-waiting or something?

:)

Queen Beatrix attended an open-air opera in Nijetrije, Friesland on saturday. She was there in private. The opera was an adaption of the opera ''Fra Diavolo' by Auber.

The Queen was invited by a friend and before the opera she went boating in the nature area 'Rottige Meenthe'.

HM looks good in blue IMO! Nice to see her again. I was surprised that the Prince of Orange and Princess Maxima weren't there though, considering they were the no1 supporters during the Olympics. Anyway, nice to see HM with the athletes, I suppose she must be specially interested in Anky's one, considering she loves horses.

Bea indeed looks good (what can't be said of these fugly grey pants suits... but hey... they're the champions!), she's the radiant middle of this happy bunch.

The suits are allright imo, it's just that Erika Terpstra is blocking our view!!

The Mexican secetary of state said that Queen Beatrix should come as soon as possible on a state visit to Mexico. The Queen has been invited several times but the last (an only) dutch state visit to Mexico dates from 1964.
