they were pretty close indeed. though they didn t see each other to often, due to their busy shedueles they telephoned a lot.

btw Willem-Jan is a knight in the order of Orange-Nassau due to his volunteer-work for the youth in Rotterdam.

A picture of Willem-Jan van Vollenhoven. The resemblance to his brother Pieter is, I think, striking.

Thanks for the info. Marengo. I didn't realize Willem-Jan was a knight. What kind of volunteer work did he do? And was he involved in law like Pieter?

Prof Pieter van Vollenhoven presented the report of the safety board to the press yesterday. As a result two ministers, Piet Hein Donner (Justice) and Sybilla Dekker (Housing) had to resign, as did the mayor of Haarlemmermeer.

Again Pieter was wearing a tie with daisies and a little daisy pin in his jacket. On various newsstations yesterday had special reports on Pieter van Vollenhoven, one opened with ´Pieter: from zero to hero´.

Thank you Mims111 for the link. These are lovely pictures - especially the ones of Margriet with the butterfly perched on her finger. Maybe the butterfly was attracted to her nice floral jacket!

Always nice to see my favourite Dutch Royal out & about!

Article from HELLO
The Netherlands' Princess Margriet had a vibrant encounter when she went along to open a new feature at the Artiz Zoo in Amsterdam this week. Queen Beatrix' younger sister met up with some of her home country's most colourful inhabitants when she opened the attraction's new butterfly pavilion.........

Let's hope for the best! My thoughts are with him and his wife. It must be dreadfull to get such an illness again & again & suffer the same kind of insecurities and fears again & again to!

According to NOS teletekst a man from Rotterdam tried to blackmail Prime Minister Jan-Peter Balkenende. He threatened to make public several letters that he had that were adressed to Princess Margriet and that came from the 2nd chamber of the States General. The man wanted 2.5 million euros from the Dutch state.

The man claims the letters were accidently sent to his adress, while the prosecution claims that he got them in an illegal way, and certainly not by such a mistake.

His trial will be on December 19th, charges are embazzlement and blackmail.

-
Now one wonders: why would Princess Margriet receive private letters from the 2nd chamber?

Unbelieveble, the "guy" is 74.Apparently he was falsely accused of theft in the early eighties, and that has cost him his (then)company,it went broke due to that accusation. He felt/feels the State owes him a sum for that mistake,et voila...The nutcase probably feels they owe him 20 years of interest as well hence the amount...

Lettters from the Second Chamber to HRH?Might be all in the frame of official representation and such,fe,information from chamber committee's,correspondence between the PM and HRH concerning issues she works with for the IRC Red Cross/Red Crescent, whatever, the PM is accountable for "her actions and words",so I do not think it all that surprising there is correspondence between one and the other.Question is,how did that guy lay hands on it,who has sent him these letters from the PM's office/Tweede Kamer and maybe have their share of the "buit"?...
