I agree with you. Most kids around 3 are "hyperactive" in the sense that they are high and low and all over the place exploring, and not in the medical sense of the word. That's what being a kid is all about; looking, learning, scraping your knees, climb trees and exploring. Anything else I'd say is unnormal when you are 3 y.o.

I think she is just of a more reserve character. Even Amalia wasn't like her at that age. She was such a smiling and curious little princess. But I must agree , the role of a middle child of any social class can be quite challenging. Although I am sure within the family she receives as much attention as her sisters. It is only with the public she may be overshadowed by Amalia and Ariane.

Being a middle child is a unique situation, and I agree with Kelly that she surely would get just as much attention as her sisters from her own family and only in the public does it seem that she is overlooked.

My younger sister is the middle child in our family, and going by what I see (since I don't personally know Alexia or the family), Alexia reminds me of my sister when she was a child. She was a bit more quite then I was and didn't seem at all interested in what was going on, unless it was with herself (not saying this about Alexia). However, now a days things couldn't be more different. My sister is a rather talkative and extroverted person with a truly unique personailty, while I have become more reserved and responsible. I think being the middle child really lets you develop a personality all your own. You don't necessarily have perconceived family roles, like the eldest is the focused and reliable one (almost like another parent-my mom calls me mother hen sometimes) and the youngest is the baby of the family. This isn't always true for every person of course.

A lot of this has to do with birth order. I've done a couple papers on this while in high school and read it a few times in magazines. I think that it is a very interesting subject, though a lot can be effected by the kind of family you are born into as well. So without butchering the study, here is a link on birth orders and it also provides links to several other sites on the topic.
Birth Order Forum

Without getting too off topic, I don't think Alexia will be overshadowed at all, she is just a child still. And naturally with the birth of Ariane only like 2 weeks ago, it is easy just to focus on the new baby in the press. Gosh, I really rambled there, sorry : )

I do not think that Alexia seems like a weepy child. She seems like a very normal child, albeit perhaps a bit quieter than her older sister. Maybe she is just a bit more introverted than Amalia. That is nothing unusual or wrong, and certainly should not categorize her as weepy.

This discussion about Alexia being a typical middle child forgets one thing: she has only been a middle child for two weeks. The impressions that people have of her are mostly of the time before Ariane's birth, wich means that untill then her treats should have been typical for a youngest child...

The big question is whether Alexia will make a surprise announcement, like her big sister did when she turned one.

i'm posting it here, since Princess Alexia is the birthday celebrant.

the super-cute photos of the Princesses are published today at El Mundo's website:

i'll say, Prince Willem-Alexander is a very good photographer! these are the best pics of the Princesses that i've seen so far. :)
