Royal Rumours; which amuses/annoys you and why?

For some reasons I'llalways seem to remember an article I once read in a German tabloid about the fact that the king and queen of Sweden would prefer it that their eldest daughter married a Crown prince, so she had to refute her claims to the Swedish throne on becoming queen of another country. It said that Carl Gustaf and Silvia privately favour Carl Philip and that this was a way to get rid of Victoria the "Royal" way. Then it discussed potential princes. Back then, they all (Haakon, Frederick, Willem-Alexander and Felipe) were not married, so this article filled pages with even including photoshopped pics of the future Royal couple (s)... LOL!

But it gave me the idea for this thread: what are your favorite rumours and what makes you remember them?

A rumour that drives me nuts is the one saying that upon the Queen and the Duke od Edimbourg's deaths, the infamous Sarah Ferguson would re-marry Prince Andrew. AWWWWWWW

Its not my favourite rumour but, i can`t ignore it. Everywhere on german covers you can read: "Charles and Camilla to divorce...Charles is cheating on Camilla...Camilla has an affair with her ex-husband..."and so on. Inside you can see very old photos (sell for new!) or photos, where they look in opposite directions. And that shall be defintily evidences of problems in their marriage! We know other stories and other pictures but, how many people believe in such nonsens?

Those divorce rumours annoy me as well. Abdullah/Raina, Charles/Camilla, Wiliam/Maxima. Heck even Joachim and Alexandra. I realize that every marriage has problems and sometimes the rumours are true..but if a married couple look the opposite way for a second and the picture is taken..its like Charles and Diana all over again!

I heard that Carl Philip prefers all the media attention on his sisters rather than him. So I don't see how he would want to be king.(I know it was a rumour though) But I have read that King Carl Gustav wanted his son to be Crown Prince. I kinda don't blame him his daughter is almost 30 and not married yet. Not that I have anything against Princess Victoria I don't. But I think her father might be getting a little impatient with her.

I read in some news article online about a year ago, actually its posted somewhere on this forum that the Belgian gov't doesn't think that Crown Prince Phillippe has what it takes to be King of the Belgians and that if he were to become king his role would be ceremonial like Queen Elizabeth II. I also read that some would rather have Princess Astrid become queen.

I've heard that they are many people in Belgium who couldn't stand Astrid on the throne because of her links with the Habsburgs (her husband is an Habsburg) and the Opus Dei and every thing like this. It was said too that the governement "did marry" Mathilde and Philippe (as they were really in love, but didn't want to marry so quick) so that they have children and Astrid could not become queen.

The only thing that seems to make sense on the Carl Philip - Victoria rumour, is that King Carl Gustav was upset that the changing of the law regarding the oldest child being heir, changed his son's title. Carl Philip was at the time Crown Prince, and was demoted. The King thought it would change for the next generation, like in Norway, when the law of succesion changed, causing first born to be heir no matter what the gender, it didn't make Martha Louise Crown princess, just from Haakon's children and on!

P.S Nice thread, just my cuppa tea!

I adore the rumour that the Shah of Iran was in love with Coccinelle, a French transsexual Cabaret singer and Marylin Monroe lookalike. Coccinelle was also a bit of a soft porn star and claimed her whole life that she had an affair with the Shah who called her his "little butterfly". I also adore the one about Prince Max von Hohenlohe-Langenburg who asked British transsexual model, April Ashley, if her nipples were brown or pink. Truly hilarious.

I just recently read on the front of a yucky magazine "The king (our king, Carl XVI Gustaf) was depressed, wanted to divorce". I just saw the magazine in the store and never looked inside it, but I hope it's either totally false or at least exaggerated.

Two "royal rumors" really annoyed me: the one claiming the Princess of Asturias, Letizia, was an anorexic and the other assuring that Infanta Leonor was deaf! Some people has too many free time left to made up absurd stories!

hum... I think I know where that magazine got the idea from... With the publishing of King Harald's new biography, rumours have circulated that the king and queen had maritial problems in the second half of the 80s, and thought of divorce. This was of course denied by the palace in a press release.

My guess it's like with the tv-license thing, it spreads to the neigbouring countries

That has to be the false rumour about the engagement of Crown Princess Juliana of the Netherlands to Prince Karl of Sweden. Weddingsongs were prepared, pictures of the 'groom' were placed in shop windows, people got enthausiastic so the court had to come with an official denial.

There was however truth in the rumour, as diplomats were working hard to match the two. In the end all failed, and Queen Wilhelmina and the dutch ambassador to London blamed it all to a Danish-Norwegian-(Greek) conspiracy against the Bernadotte's. I believe especially Queen maud was seen as the evil genius.

-

ANother rumour I like was that of King Edward VII flirting with Prince Felix Youssoupov in drag (later husband of Princess Irene of Russia) in a Parisian club of questionable repute.

That rumor is true. I read from some interviews that even Queen Silvia felt the same way as her husband.

Rumors don't generally bother me, I believe what I want until I know the truth.
But any rumor started about the royal babies gets to me. I mean if the parents choose not to present the baby to the press or if the baby hasn't been seen in public for afew weeks, it is presumed that there is something wrong with them! You would think these 'journalists' would have better things to do with their time than make up stupid stories about innocent little kids!

BTW, that thing about Carl Gustaf and Silvia is really interesting, I'd never heard that before!

I read that too, but Carl Philip was just a baby, it's not like he was aware that he was "destined to be king." You wonder why nobody worries about the elder daughter and rightful heir who is to be passed over in favor of her younger brother because of some archaic law. I would think parents would love and value all of their children the same, and wouldn't have a preference as to which one inherited.

But for some months, Victoria WASN'T the rightful heir, even though she was the oldest, because she had gotten a brother. And I don't think royal parents love the heir appearent more than their other children. With this, you make it sound like Carl Gustaf and Silvia should just love Victoria and not love their two other children at all. It just doesn't make sense. And when you complain about "some archaic law", you forget about how the Swedish parlament changed the succession laws away from all traditions just to please the feminist movement.

What bothers me are the really offensive ones- like Leonor having some sort of disease (she has a birthmark. That's it!), Princess Letizia being anorexic, Princess Masako hating Princess Kiko for having a boy, or when they are about why Princess Masako hasn't had another baby. When the rumors are just really mean spirited and not true, and especcially ones that are nobody's business, those bother me.
I'm more annoyed when people take rumors as fact, and don't back them up. I don't want to be lame, but I just can't say it enough, people: consider the source!!!!! If your "big news" comes from a supermarket tabloid, then... you may want to question that. For example, if a royal lady seems to have put on a little weight, it doesn't mean she's pregnant- she may have just neglected her sit-ups. :)

But then again, I may be a bit of a skeptic (a skeptic crossed with a hopeless romantic- how odd). As much as I want Mette-Marit/Matilde/Sophie/Aimee/whoever to be pregnant, I'll wait until we know- either the palace will announce it or she'll give birth, one or the other.....: )
