Lovely black dress, the cut is just stunning yet very simple. Its nice that its strapless, the velvet is a great choice for winter. Pity that Kate has her hair down, she could've looked stunning with hair up.

The waist line is particularly nice on Catherine as she has a rather straight athletic figure and this Bustier (?) style is especially flattering on her. I think she looked fabulous and happy as did the handsome brothers. :)

Like the dress. But the look is a bit spoiled by all that hair.
She has lovely hair, but she always put all her hair to the front, is she would wear it more to the back we could see more of her jewelry and her beautiful face :)

Depends on what kind of updo. A simple French ponytail is very simple and chic.Kennisgeving voor omleiding

And she finally managed to do her eyeliner correctly, praise Jezus.

And a few seconds out in the cold never killed a vital, healthy person. Bronchitis, what you can get from a cold, is not caused by the temperture, but by virusses or bacteria in the air.

Celebs do it all the time during Award Season. The last edition of the Bafta's wasn't exactly sunshine but everyone was alright.
I agree with you. The black gala dress is an all right choice. A ponytail would have accentuated the decollete area and necklace. The make up was so so as usual.

Evening dress

One word: stunning!

The best look since her wedding day. Fabulous!

Yes I agree. Her hair is always or most of the time down, with this dress she should put her hair up she would look more beautiful. I like how the dress is so simple and velvet is a good choice for winter :flowers:

It is indeed a gorgeous and well-fitting dress. Is it no longer a faux pas for royalty to wear black outside of mourning?

Definitely not. As shown Diana wore black in 1981. They even wear it to weddings sometimes. :whistling:

Let's see here:
1 gorgeous gal+
1 stunning little black dress that has " Old Hollywood glam" written all over it!+
1 set of showstopper bling-

And to top it all off-
2 not 1 but 2 dashing princes= Perfection!

I loved seeing Diana's and Catherine's pictures side by side- just the image I remembered.

The dresses are indeed very similar. Diana's looked almost midnight blue in one of the pictures. The dress would be gorgeous in either color though.

I won't necessarily call the dress 'little', but I would definitely give it the 'Old Hollywood glam'. Wish I could fit into something like that and not look like a cow.

Yes, the escort(s) and the jewelry were splendid, but her smile was as usual, a million bucks (something I forgot to mention). Catherine never fails to light up a room.

Yes, it is 7 degrees C. I think it is very dangerous what she did. Of course she only stepped out of the car, but even a for a few metters, the change of temperature can harm, once I got bronchitis for a few seconds unattended in the cold.
Anyway, she is young, but she could have a pashmina and take it out immediately once inside.

I chuckled when I saw you describing +7C as cold. You'd be surprised how many people in Canada walk around without a coat on when temperatures get that warm in the winter.

For a "trip" between car and venue that is not something to groan about. Very nicely done Catherine. I live in the southern US and always chuckle when I see people put on ear muff when it hits 50 farenheit. But then I grew up in the upper midwest and 50 was spring like weather.

I don't believe she likes her hair up.

People are always saying she should put it up, but why, if she doesn't like it?
The few times she wore it pulled back somewhat, she seemed uneasy to me, as if she wasn't quite comfortable.
She has absolutely gorgeous hair, so she should wear it the way she wants to.

I agree, she has a beautiful hair and I like it down but sometimes she needs to change and looks different. People might like her more with her hair up, ultimately it's her hair and she can do whatever she likes with it :flowers:

It's such a pleasure to see Kate wear a formfitting, figure-hugging dress that reveals and flatters her beautiful figure. It's such a great change from the flowing and draping dresses she's worn in the past, and I hope we see more of these knockout looks from her at upcoming events.

You and me both. That dress is simply divine.

An enchanting look for Catherine - my favourite dress and jewels so far! Black velvet...what a dream and the necklace is amazing!

Somehow I don't think people who do not like her will like her more if she puts her hair up. Very elementary lesson: do what is comfortable for you and NOT what others determine for you, ultimately you will be a much happier person.

:previous:I think what life84 means is that people would like Kate to wear her hair up more, not like her personally if she does.:)

Things have changed in 30 years, Diana got in big trouble for wearing it in 1981, it was headline news, (plus the plunging neckline!)
She didn't wear black again as POW, even her famous dance with John Travolta was midnight blue.

And, there is a wonderful image of the Queen wearing a poodle skirt in 1955, I will try to get it.
It's a question of clothes that are off duty or on-duty.

What shocks me about Catherine's dress, another poster mentioned it, is that it is TOO LONG. Can you imagine having a custom made $6,000 dress and it's too long!! Or maybe she wore different shoes at the last minute?

The length of the dress and the flowing skirt made me think that this dress would look amazing during a waltz. Maybe she was being wistful when ordering it, hoping to use it at some point for such an occasion :D. I know I won't pass up an opportunity of a spin on the dance floor in a dress like that and with a husband as dashing as hers (and mind you, I'm not exactly graceful on my feet). I'm thinking that she would look divine when doing a dance routine for 'It's Delovely' from 'Anything Goes'.

First off thanks Miche for the link to the Queen. I also think that everyone on this forum could find plenty of pics with people wearing black strapless dresses. So as usual the Diana comparisons was a reach.

As for the dress I like the cut as it gave her more curves. The length as some have pointed out was too much as evident by her constant hitching routine. The jewels were odd. The flowers looked almost childish in some pics and pretty in others. I suspect the piece is convertible but I am not sure it would work with her hair. As for the event she wore the dress to I just do not know if I would have picked to wear it to a military event. The reason is that the focus should have been put on the military and I feel like with the new dress/jewels the attention was on her. I also feel like the whole "look" screamed state visit. As usual I will leave the hair alone.

Can someone please direct me to video of Catherine "constantly" hitching up her dress! I think I have watched all the video available and haven't seen anything of this nature. I must have missed it somewhere. The only mention of this is in an article and before I comment on it I would actually like to SEE it.

Thanks in advance. This is making me very frustrated!
