I had faint hope that Queen Rania would finally have an opportunity to wear another magnificent creation by Elie Saab. Well, Her Majesty seems to stop wearing these Middle Eastern themed attires with heavy embroidery. Sometimes I wonder why...
Her dress for the Brunei gala was understated, yet conveyed regal simplicity that did not need extra adornment. I like the colour and cut. The updo hairstyle matched the overall look perfectly.

Sorry. Nice colour on her but too old for her. It is the kind of dress European royals tend to wear but not usually Rania.

Could be an Elie Saab but not off the coutire runway show, custom made.

Great color, great cut & style. I thought it was very flattering & elegent. Im suprised Rania went for such a dress becuase its not her style. I do agree that this fits a European Royal more, but it still is lovely on her. Nice for a change.

I was expecting her to wear something conservative for this visit in keeping with the other female royals.

awful gown
bad colour, bad lines of the dress and not Ranja's style. she usually so gorgeous in evening dress, what's wrong with this one?

I agree on all counts! Certainly not one of her better dresses.
I think on an older woman, (Queen Paola comes to mind) the dress with (better lines of course) would look really stylish.

A beautiful white and purple skirt with a deep purple blouse during the Malaysian banquet
http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...News-37783.jpg

This reminds me a little of the outfit she wore to Felipe and Letizia's wedding. The skirt is beautiful, it looks like it may be hand-painted silk.

Little_star,
Thanks for posting photos!
I have to say that I have ambivalent feelings about the Malaysian gala outfit. She looks all right, but a bit too casual for the occasion ..? The gala outfits for both countries (Brunei and Malaysia) are purple colour dominated. Given the way women dress in the aforementioned countries, it would have been much better for Her Majesty to wear a stunning creation by Saab or any other designer... in my personal subjective opinion, of course...

Skirt is by Elie Saab ready-to-wear s/s2008. Came down the runway in two versions, both dresses - Version 1 -- Version 2

I dont like the look. The hair runis it as well IMHO. Skirt looks too long for her also the fact she wore purple for the state visit is boring seeing the shade again imo.

I had no idea this was an Elie Saab creation - Queen Ranja ruined it with jacket and hair. bad dress again what's wrong with her?

Perhaps, Her Majesty heard the outcry of members of this Forums and decided to wear Saab... Unfortunately, the choice was far from perfect. The couture collection 2008 by Saab had several good options for Queen Rania to select from ...in my personal opinion ...

I'm not keen on the outfit either. The skirt dwarves her, even though she is tall. She looks nicer in simpler clothes rather than things that are fussy (jacket, sash, big skirt with patterns).

Might have been better if she kept it as a dress but had it changed to long sleeves and more modest top half. Remember what she wore to Spanish royal wedding? That was originally a revealing Givenchy dress on the catwalk that she had modified into skirt and shirt (I wasn't crazy about the shirt then either). This gala outfit is a similar idea.

Thank you very much for the information Dazzling, very interesting information.
As for my opinion I liked the outfit and the hairstyle. She wears purple these days. She seems to buy many clothes of the same colours, many grey clothes, some purple etc.

The August 27, 2008 edition of Laha has a fashion spread that features a blue dress that looks similar to the one Rania wore to Jordan's independence day celebrations in May. The cutline says Etro and Roberto Cavalli but I can't read the Arabic to determine which one refers to the designer of the dress.

It's Roberto Cavalli. I would have thought that if she wanted a traditional gown, she would have had one made locally rather than by a European designer
