I think she looked great! I would have worn a different dress but to each their own. She looks amazing for 44! I knew she was in her 40s but didn't realize she was 44.

You are making an assessment on the dress alone in combination with the lady. But she is no actress or singer or television celebrity. She is Her Majesty The Queen of Spain. Other standards apply. Letizia often misses the feeling for an appropriate dresscode by appearing far too casual on certain events where other ladies were way better dressed than the most important lady of the country.

She looked stunning. Great hair and great accessories but indeed I feel like the dress is more for celebrities rather than a queen. The dress would have been better if it's just a bit longer and without the lace hem.

@Duc_et_Pair absolutely agree to both your posts. Letizia is missing that she has to dress firstly like the Queen of Spain and secondary like suitable to Letizia Ortiz' body.

Carla Bruni/Mrs Sarkozy, being France's first Lady, she visited Great Britain. While meeting the Queen and during the whole visit she choose all outfits absolutely conservative, despite she had the money, connexions and body to wear any stunning and sexy outfit she wanted. She appeared like countrie's first lady and not like a sexy and beautiful clothes' horse.

:previous: Yes, I remember, she was still a walking advertisement for French fashion but in a very conservative yet elegant way.

I think finding that mark is not easy and Letizia still misses the mark although she has certainly upped her game as Felipe's Queen. There are no more capri pants and ballet flats on the reviewing platform at parades.

IMO evening wear can be easy to get wrong, I would think that she thought the sheer panels were not quite as revealing as they actually are. Yes, she looks like a stunning celebrity, but celebrity is not royalty and the regal look should be what she is aiming for.

Judging from the photos I've seen there were a lot of better dressed ladies at the opera last night in comparison to the queen consort who looked undressed for the event.

There where also seveeral men wearing a Smoking but the King choose a simple day suit.

i think this is the problem with the spanish opera season. there is no dress code, unlike the one in vienna, for example. so we see a range of outfits, ranging from letizia's short dress, to trousers, to full gala and anything in between. so anything goes really, except that in my opinion the queen shouldn't let her legs be so exposed. this almost looked like something one could slip into to go to bed!

i think a short dress is appropriate for her given the dress code mix, but something along these lines would have worked much better:

I totally agree with you! Letizia owns so many LBDs and all of them would have a much better choice.

Regarding the dresscode, it must have been clear to everybody attending that Felipe would not wear black tie (not really important for the Ladie's choices though). Thinking back, SRF do one event over the year where Felipe wears black tie (ABC Awards) and one or two wearing the equivalent, morning suit (Ambassador Reception and Cervantes Awards), plus white tie at State occasions. So it was clear that the Kings would wear something less formal, no need for Letizia's look-at-me outfit though.

I think that, if the King, Minister and authorities were all wearing simple suits, black tie and long gala dresses as some guest were wearing were all out of place. This is an annual event, they should know better.

I don't like Leti's Varela at all, the lace panel is completely hideous, but I don't think the bar raised by the ladies' guest was so high :D IMO most of them were meh if not directly awful. Just Eugenia Silva as always was splendid and appropriate IMO http://divinitystatic-a.akamaihd.ne...llegada-Teatro-Real_MDSIMA20160916_0229_1.jpg

I do not think that Letizia was underdressed. She was just not suitably dressed for her position.

Who is Queen Letizia's current stylist or is it the same team that she had as the Princess of Asturias ?

I can't decide whether I like or dislike Letizia's latest dress. I like the simple but elegant feel of it, though the design at the end spoils it a little for me. I don't think she was too underdressed for the event either, especially since there isn't a particular dress code for the event.

It think it's a different stylist, her looks has completely changed, to the better. I read once that her stylist works for a magazine as well.

The black dress is really nice but I thought the sheer panels were a bit too high up which wasn't pretty or elegant. Her overall as nicely put together.

I don't like her showing so much of her bare arms and chest, too boney for me.

I agree she could gain some weight. Some light bodybuilding perhaps could help.

Her mother and sister built exactly the same. Just the way they are made. I guess we all take a bit after our families.

She looks very lovely.

A very pretty dress - Queen Letizia is certainly favouring floral designs at the moment!

I defintely like this dress better than the hideous "thing" she wore back at the theater opening season. Very pretty!

The black dress is stunning and elegant. It's one of my favorites on her.

I totally agree the hairstyle and the shoes make her look very old fashioned. Besides that, the shoes are too bulky for her delicate frame and the dress style.

Now if she had the same person pick her shoes and hairdresser from the last Reception she would have nailed it. Instead, the delicate lace of her dress makes her shoes look big and clumsy and her hair looks badly dressed.

I have always liked the black lace PoA dress - great to see it repeated but i wish she had kept the original shoes (cause they worked so nicely with the dress) and choose a better hairstyle. This was an occasion for a complete repeat from its first appearance.

I think Letizia's latest dress is very pretty, I like the lacy sleeves. Her hair is also rather elegant, too.

I agree with you, that was my first impression. Her hair does not look right and those shoes? . . .

I would like to see the back of the hairstyle, but from the front it's a miss. I do like the dress but agree that the shoes are too bulky.

Planeta Awards in Barcelona

Old sleeveless top and old HB skirt. The top already looked bad in Chile:

and it still looks bad now. This photo says it all - the bare arms look is beyond flattering and top and skirt are a different material / shade of black

Full look, I don't like the shoes either

The outfit and the shoes is not bad is very elegant but the bare arms make all her look not flattering.
