On the oder hand, if guests were asked not to wear red it's a lack of respect.
I didn't like the dress because of the see-through sleeves. They were pretty horrible. She did look stunning other than that, but I just think it was disrespectful to wear such a red and sexy dress to a wedding, where the bride should be the center of attention.

It seems the discussion around here is going on circles again, after 6 pages of discussion...

Well, I respect your opinion, but that's merely a matter of personal taste. As far as we all could know, nothing in the established protocol for this wedding was saying not to wear red, and many, many Spanish women (inclusively members of the royal family) wear red - a very Spanish colour, by the way - at weddings... just look at Infanta Cristina at her sister's wedding, or Infanta Elena (who also chose to wear a vibrant fucsia ensemble at the Danish wedding).

There we many drop-dead gorgeous dresses at Mary and Fredrik's wedding. Letizia's simply took the price with a wide margin. It was not only the dress but her "coming out" in royal circles that added to the event. Sweeping in on Felipe's arm certainly added elegance as well.

See-through sleeves are horrible? Personally I think strapless dresses as worn by some royals at such events look far worse.
I really don't see why Letizia should be blamed for looking beautiful. Is it her fault if some thought she looked better than the bride?

Princess Letizia

Princess Letizia is able to wear sweeping evening gowns with a flair and easiness. She looks natural sporting trains and overskirts cut on the bias.
The Princess really does have regal inner bearing and that reflects in the manner she comports herself in gala wear and evening gowns.

At the risk of getting into a polemic, that is one unwritten rule when attending a wedding, that nothing of what you wear will outshine the bride, as she is the star in the wedding. You should never look better and thence the rule of not wearing white as it is the colour of the bride.

As far as I know that is part of the ritual, or at least that is what I've been told.

Should Letizia have worn a burlap sack? What she wore was just fine, and if people thought she looked better than Mary.....that's not her fault.

I wasn't saying that, and if you believe that, I assure you that was not the the way I intended to sound.

It is usually mentioned that about not looking better than the bride and considered you should not attract more attention than her in that day as she is the star of the day.

For some reason, you can not mention whatever in anyway can be slightly considered a critic about Letizia without getting these kind of answers.

That was not my intention, I was talking about what I have been always told about weddings.

The dresses in Denmark were planned to be wore the other way around. As far as I know Caprile recommended the one she wore at the concert in the eve of the wedding, the one with the embroidery jacket and red skirt for the day of the wedding, I'm not sure why exactly she changed the order as I have read in this forum that there was an issue with the guests asked not to wear red in the concert, but if that is true it should have come in the invitation and surely Caprile would have changed the colours of the dresses. What I know is that Caprile seems to have talked about the issue of the order of the dresses in interviews and it's been around since then.

I did the comment about the gala dresses as it refers to this thread.

Just that, a comment

In all fairness though Letizia didn't run in and see what Mary looked like and then run out and choose a better dress.

Moreover, she didn't wear white, so I never really understood all the fuss. If her red dress had been white, then she would definitely warrant criticism imo. However, it was a completely different colour!

Although it's true that you're not supposed to outshine the bride, there was nothing Letizia could have done about it. In my opinion Letizia did outshine the bride, but can you blame her, really, one week before her own wedding and walking in on the arm of that incredible handsome prince. I think the dress was absolutely breathtaking, it was fairytale like. Perfect for a wedding. SHe did absolutely nothing wrong wearing that dress.

both mary and letizia had their respective gowns made long time ago... i'm not a big fan of mary's wedding dress, don't think it looked that great although i liked the wedding itself, but letizia's gown was very eye-catching and flattering and it suited her perfectly. besides, the fact that it was just 2 weeks before her own wedding and the first time she attended events with royalty from over the world may ave influenced the media attention. i really don't think you can blame letizia for looking good at her first gotha event (who wouldn't?).

To be honest with you the Caprile red gown it's very beautiful, I would not wear it though as I'm not a big fan of the colour red, I much prefer other Caprile gowns she has worn, and yes she didn't go and checked what Mary was actually wearing and changed the order of the dresses so as to outshine the bride.

I do agree as the rest, princessleonor and carlota, that the red gown was going to attract attention. As I said before I do consider the dress to very beautiful.

The comment was made on what I know about Caprile, he specialises himself in weddings and provides a full service (advise in makeup, hairdo, jewellery to wear, etc) in the area and the advise about the dresses.

No offence was intended

I couldn't agree with you more. Letizia looked fantastic and you can't fault a girl for looking her best, especially when her escort was one of the, if not the best looking man there.

I can't quite see what you're referring to, you made a comment and others responded to it. Nobody is over-reacting here. Just because others don't share your viewpoint does not mean they're getting into a huff over what you said.

The comment was not made in reference to your comments, and if in any case offense was seen I apologise again.

The comment was made in regard with the way the answers come back when you just make a comment about Letizia, not just in this thread but in other ones as well, and you get answers of the kind made before. I never said or intended that she had to wear a burlap sack.

I hope this time has been clarified.

And again little star the comment was not made in reference to you.

I think there are probably other dresses to talk about as well! We might have to agree to disagree on the infamous red dress.

What otherdresses have left such an impression?

As much as i loved the green gown (the embroidered top part and the skirt) it was way over her age.I could see that dress on one of the Queen's,not a young lady like Letizia.

Letizia doesn't seem to get the chance to wear long galadresses and tiaras as often as other Princesses, does she?
I was watching throught this thread and realized that she wore some beautiful long dresses, but more often she wears shorter dresses.
I hope to see a new long dress on her soon... maybe a pregnancy galadress. this would be new on her.
