It appears to me that a non-emotional discussion is too much to expect from Crown Princess Letizia's ardent supporters.
I was not replying to the discussion regarding the black ensemble. Not everyone here was talking about the black ensemble, please read the posts before yours.
Posters had their own opinions, that's about it.

I really loved this suit. The softer grey colour is very becoming, and I ♥ those heels!

Cool

I see nothing wrong with this grey ensemble, it's entirely appropriate for greeting His Holiness plus it's fits in with the fall/winter weather.

Yes, it looks much better... Do you have the photo of the dress you mean?

I like this suit a lot. The skirt with the pleated frills is very pretty. But is she going to wear grey every day? The winter lasts until March and it's getting boring already...

It's a good color on her though! I like it better than the white suit with the pink as that seems to wash her out. And at least she is wearing clothing that is appropriate for the occasion rather than dressing like a teen.

I think she looks beautiful in this outfit and it is sombre enough to reflect the gravity of the visit of the pope but the details lift it and prevent it from being too severe. A great choice by Leti.

Sure, there's no doubt about that. It's a very appropriate suit and quite professional.

Thank you for this photo, Duke.
Looks decent at first sight. I haven't seen a photo of her with the coat off either.

She was wearing the same white suit too. The mass was outdoor and it was very cold.

Looks definitely more optimistic, a nice change from the gray routine. The color of the blouse is almost like the color of the pot flowers.

However, the cut of the shoes is like before:

There is a dresscode for pope visits:

Only catholic crowned head of states or their wifes have the right to wear white when meeting the pope !

So only Queen Sofia would have had the right to wear white ( the others are Paola of Belgium and MT of Luxemburg ).

This means: the outfit was inappropriate ( or correct me, if I'm at fault because they have eased rules )

Yes you are right tht only Catholoc queen are allowed wear white while visiting the pope in official state bussines. However, when it's other way there isn't a such protocol. Besides this wasn't a official state visit nor a papal visit but an apostelic trip.

The gray suit is classic. The white coat maybe is really warm and white looks great on her. The pink shoes go really well with the coat.

I think that matter is slightly different. The dress code concerns visits to Vaticano and is talking about the mantillas (lace covers of the head for the ladies) +same outfit. Only the catholic crowned queens - head of states are allowed to wear the white mantilla + outfit, all the other ladies (princesses, etc) the black lace.
But I do not think that the rule applies to the usual clothes, and out of Vaticano
For example, Queen Paola is dressed as per the protocol but IN VATICAN

I wish I could see a closer picture. I kind of like the prints on the dress, but it seems a bit too short.

The dress is very contemporary and it would look nice on a 20 something and definitely NOT combined with anything black...
