I agree with Melbea noting that Crown Princess Mette-Marit does an amazing job of wearing pill-box hats. It is nice to see Crown Princely couple wearing national costumes.

CP Mette Marit started to look a bit matronly since around 2007 or so. If you're that tall it is sometimes difficult for a woman when she gains weight. She looks a bit odd in these costumes in the meanwhile, but her appearance on the balcony was very classy and elegant. Just my opinion.

What are you talking about? I don't see anything wrong with the way MM and the rest of the family wear the costumes.

I'm not downing anyones culture, especially the Norwegians, I'm not used to seeing these costumes. I'm not saying they should throw it away, but they could fix it up. They could make it look more "modern". This sounds like a tradition that will not change. So you could say this is just my opinion on the costumes.

Every country in Europe has their traditional clothings, even in Spain every area has one which is very different from the others. Those kind of clothes have theis own trends, but they will never look modern. And imo the interesting thing about them is that they are traditional and reflects history if they looked modern that would be lost no?

Yes it is traditional. Which is why I said it's my opinion on it. I know it'll never change. I'm definitely not saying they should change history. But I like to design clothes and if it were left up to me I would make a modern costume to add to the older ones. But then again, I really love fashion and I'm always thinking of ways to tweak something or make it look better.

Well, isn't this what traditions are for?
Altering a national costume sounds just weird to me.
Every nation has own national costumes... I really cannot imagine how the e.g. Bunads, the Dirndls or the funny Icelandic national costumes (with the floral print) should be altered to look more "modern".
Furthermore: every region is Norway has it's own Bunad style (MM was wearing the Hardanger Bunad this year).. should all regional costumes be altered, in your opinion?
One can like fashion; but altering national costumes to make them look more modern is really a no-go, imo.

LoL. Her Majesty, I see you and I do not agree on anything! Which is fine with me. I'm a traditional person myself, but even I sometimes change things. Like I said, it was just my opinion. We have our traditions in the US and Europe have their traditions. My idea of changing a costume may sound "weird" to you, but when I look at these costumes they're "weird" to me! A "different" kind of weird, not in the bad sense of weird. Of course, I would never alter a national costume, but like I said, if I was given a chance I would "add" a modern look to the old collection. I don't see how or why that would be such a problem to you. It's just talk! It's not like I will actually do it. There's no need to be upset, it not like Mette-Marit will ask me to change it. I realize you do not know me and you're just going by my posts, but please don't take everything I say so personally. Thanks for the info on the bunads. That's good to know.

I think that you would like to know that the traditional costumes have trends, at least flamenco dresses have them, so one year the trend is to wear a denim dress and other year a more traditional one. There are even fashion shows dedicated to them! The world of traditional costumes is much more deep than you think it is.

That is interesting, Melibea, to say the least. We here in the USA don't really have any national costumes, much to my chagrin. I think it would be fun... But we are the melting pot of the world, so to speak.

MM must like the pink and white color combination. I think she looks very nice. She could've worn different shoes though.

I so agree with you, CP5. The shoes and the sweater are two different shades of pink/coral and they seem to clash.

Yes, it is ever so nice to see CP Mette Marit in colours. I like that dress and I like the pink cardigan. Not sure about the shoes but overall she looked lovely. Btw, very nice smile in Pic 2.

I think it was too casual maybe if she had wore a blazer instead of the pink jacket it would look more "professional".
