I agree with you, Katrianna. Above all I think that this dress is too short, but the boots per se are great, though.

I also think that it is not a dress but a skirt and vest

I think you're right. You can see in this picture they are separate pieces.

Oh, it would have been so much better if she had worn antique jewels and fuchsia lipstick!! So sophisticated!! Why, Mathilde?

She looks quite elegant, but the loose pants... I'm not sure. The earrings are eyecatchers, but IMO they're too clunky. But at least original.

I quite like her earrings, I think they make the whole look more interesting. The outfit itself is elegant, but quite boring IMO because it´s too dark and loose. Definitely the earrings and clutch are a pretty detail.

A scarf AND a wrap??? It looks like there is just a bunch of fabric wrapped around her. And if it is that cold, why not gloves? I don't like her pants either. They look too loose, of course I didn't see how they fit at the waist. I think her makeup is a little too light for her outfit. I think in the winter and/or with bolder colors, one should have a little more color in makeup. She just looks a little washed out, and especially in winter, a little more color on her cheeks or lips would just really enhance her beauty.

The wintery jacket is just fine. Besides, she doesn't seem to be on an official visit/duty.

But what is that 'blanket' in the 2nd photo? Is this supposed to look elegant or regal?

I don't like Mathilde's coat in the second picture. It reminds me of a Native American blanket. I think those kinds of blankets are nice, but worn as coats. Her puffy jacket looked nice, like she was warm and stylish and ready to play in the snow or go skiing.

The first look is a quite stylish winter outfit IMO. I love the earrings.
The coat in the second looks so frumpy...

Two pictures of the outfit underneath the cape. It’s a nice looking pantsuit, already worn in 2006. I’m not a fan of the cape and scarf combo either, she could have worn something nicer; but since it was just a cover up for the few minutes outsides it’s sort of okay imo.

If this was underneath that ugly coat, what can I say? Wow, who would have thought of that? Very elegant choice. It also fits Mathilde perfectly!

Mathilde doesn't have to look elegant and regal all the time, IMO she only looks regal when she's wearing a tiara and a long flowing gown.
This was an off day for a daytime outfit.

I am not keen on the coat by DVF Diane von Furstenberg Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear Collection on Style.com: Complete Collection (the photo #1 in the second row). It is too busy. It is sad to admit, but recently Crown Princess Mathilde's outfits are disappointing: poor tailoring aggravated by shiny fabrics or/and wild patterns.
