I believe you are totally correct. If you will look at this post you can see that one is all blue in the lace and the newer looking one has the other colors.

Post 64 has a picture of the older gown.

I too don't think that it's the same dress, I think it's just the same designer.

I think so too. The tight-fitting dress can't be turned back to front like that. She might have bought two from the same collection. But I like the newer one better. Very nice, could have been better with a tiara.

It looks like a completely new dress. I like this look alot. It looks much better without the v-neckline and the heavy dress underneath it. This was a great choice.

Edit:
Full View

Now that i se the full view of the dress which shows the split at the back i am beginning to think she has had it remodled as the pattern of the overlay is so unique - could explain why it has never been seen since 2004

Maybe she borrowed the original one, then purchased the one she is wearing now finding out Princess Victoria had bought the same gown. I love the lace colors on the newer one. The shades of blue on the original are beautiful, yet with the tiny bit of pink and purple it suits Mary so much better.

It's definitely the same fabric overlay - which is from Solstiss lace.
http://i337.photobucket.com/albums/n...aceoverlay.jpg
The beading is quite unique. The dress underneath brings out the different colored beadings on the lace.

Princess Mary has also worn other Solstiss lace fabrics which are used by Julie Fagerholt for her Heartmade collection. She has a Heartmade skirt using Solstiss lace which she has used two different colored-linings/underskirts - blue and beige:
http://i337.photobucket.com/albums/n...ifflinings.jpg

She also has a Heartmade dress made from Solstiss lace using different linings - beige and black:
http://i337.photobucket.com/albums/n...elacedress.jpg

The current Solstiss lace collection has a similar pattern to Princess Mary's gown but with not so many colored beads:
http://i337.photobucket.com/albums/n.../747200GEO.jpg
http://i337.photobucket.com/albums/n...00GEO-long.jpg

The thing about Solstiss lace is depending on your lining, it really changes the look of the lace. This is from the current collection too with different backgrounds:
http://i337.photobucket.com/albums/n.../761731GKQ.jpg
http://i337.photobucket.com/albums/n...1GKQ-close.jpg

The Solstiss lace with beads are about US$900 a yard. Just from this, I think perhaps her gown from 2004 was altered to the one we see in the dinner in Vietnam.

OMG $900 a yard! Welllllll now, that would surely make someone remake a gown wouldn't it. Whatever she did or did not do to the gown it is gorgeous.
$900 a yard! I cannot even imagine that. Thank you Ayvee

BTW beautiful examples you posted for all of us.

Love the first dress! And the other is quite gorgeous as well. The fabric and style seem to suit Mary very well...

I like this dress & its good to see her wearing it again but I dont really like the parting in the hair on the side.
Lovely dress, much more better than the previous version. Cool colors suits CP well. I like the hairdo and the accessories too.

I adore both Princess Mary and her fashion choice,
the evening dress is simply adorable, agree with Marmi, the earrings are stunning.

Trouble finding a date :S

Hi everyone from a newbie here at The Royal Forums

First of all thanks for all the beautiful photos.

I don't know if this is the place to ask, but I haven't been able to find it myself. Can anyone tell me when and to which occassion Crown Princess Mary wore the beautiful Heartmade skirt with the white jacket? I think it was to a friends wedding in 2005.

Thanking you in anticipation

I think it's a new dress from the same material, don't think the original could be altered to that extend. The fabric is beautiful, I prefer the new version since it looks much better tailored.

Great look although the hair looks a bit messy.

The dress is the same, the slit is in the back filled with the underneth fabric, I think this dress is altered and worn the other way round.

I think that the dress looks much more beautiful now than the first time she wore it.

I agree with most posters that the "new" dress suits CP Mary much better than the first version. I adore the scallop off-the-shoulder neckline!
