The jacket is lovely, simple and a clean cut. I don't see how it matches the dress. The dress print is unflattering IMO.

It's an elegant look but definitely not one of my Top 10 favourite looks of the Crown Princess.
The thing that bothers me most is the dress, or more precisely, it's high collar: I am not sure it goes well with the long jacket.
The combination of delicate cream and harsh black isn't my cup of tea either. Love the accessories though, especially the beautiful brooch.

Tastes do and should vary: otherwise we'd be a very boring society indeed.
I think Mary wore the purple version of this hat for a recent wreath-laying ceremony (in July or August, if I'm not mistaken).

Why is she wearing such an unflattering black jacket on such a beautiful dress? I like the dress very much and think that it would look much better on her if she had worn it with a light cardigan in the same ecru colour of the dress.

Absolutely perfect ensemble for the occasion. But, oh my! Be still my fluttering heart . . . she wore a hat! A beautiful, magnificent, elegant, hat!

Actually, props to all the ladies of the DRF who wore conventional hats, not a fascinator in sight!

I think it is a fabulous combination. The lace top and skirt, the long jacket, the high hat. She looks like a modernization of a nordic lady from the 1700s. The hat and jacket especially. I love how the flower pin on the jacket ties together the lace "dress" and the harsh jacket. Very innovative and stylish and she carries it off beautifully. Bravo.
