I would like to know about the different thrones
what is the history behind them when was the latest time it was used and so on
 
I believe the throne of Queen Beatrix was ordered by her grandmother, Queen Wilhelmina. It is only used for the opening of parlament. For the actual enthronement thy use other chairs/thrones. In anexhibition I have seen a set of thrones of King Willem III (terribly ugly, neo-gothic style) and of King Willem II.
 
I actually really love the thrones of Canada. The dark wood and red fabric is really beautiful and makes an impact.
 
I agree Princejohnny. They're beautiful yet very elegant. Not vulgarly brilliant, that would be quite un-Canadian. Ofcourse it's also because the Queen doesnt live here. I have seen beautiful pictures from long ago when Queen Elizabeth made her speech from the throne in Ottawa. I'll try to find it.
 
Those are very nice, thank you for the pictures. My favorites are the Danish, Norwegian thrones. The British weren't as pretty as I thought they'd be.
 
I dont think they actually use the danish ones anymore. Someone correct me if Im wrong. I love the coronation throne of Great Britian. The Irony of a monarch being consecrated and crowned on a old beaten down chair that has graffiti all over it is so ironic and poetic to me.

British monarchs are crowned while seated on the Coronation Chair, which is sometimes (incorrectly?) called a throne.

yes you are right. the thrones is just an exibition but was last used by Christian 8. and his queen Caroline-Amalie. they were the last royal couple that had a corronation.
 
Great links, magnik, this one got my attention because of the square cut out above the seat of the chair so the Tsars' sister can give them 'advice'. I can only imagine the curious puppeter-like ceremonies of these two characters: he seated in front of government with his sister's head popping out of that square hole, or maybe her arm in case she needed to sign a document too. Reminds me of the 'hand' in the Adams' Family TV show. :rolleyes:

Beautiful, just beautiful. I cant wait for the opening of parliament to see them in use. The whole parliament house is very nice. I love the stained glass windows and colors. Very dramatic.

royal throne room

i'm starting this thread about the different throne room all over the world.. my favorite is the spanish throne room. keep on posting pics. i haven't got a pic of the spanish throne room. sorry but its my favorite.. so i'm hoping if you could post some nice pics..

Any chair on which a Sovereign sits is correctly reffered to as a throne, just to let you know, though the Special Throne are very beautiful, especially Queen Elizabeth II's chair of estate.

what's your favorite throne room? so far my favorite ios the spanish throne room. we've been talking about crown, jewels and tiaras but how about throne rooms? feel free to post some nice pics!
