Portugal Crown Jewels

I don't like the crown fo portugal. It look like ungainly and too big.
The crown was made by Luiz da Costa o Fez and designed by António Gomes da Silva in 1817 at Rio de Janeiro.
It is made with gold, silver and with a velvet cap.
Height: 30 cm; Largest diameter: 39,5 cm; Weight: 2,402 kg.

It is today at Ajuda Palace, Lisbon.

It was made to celebrate the costitutional regime inaugurated with the reign of queen Mary II. The Dragon is the arms of house of Braganza and it appears also at the top of the imperial sceptre of Brazil.

Amazing that the Portuguese Crown jewels survived the invading French and then the Revolution and overthrow of the monarchy!

I like the crown of portugal, it's magnificent.

Were the Portuguese kings ever crowned ? Or just acclaimed by the Cortes with the regalia on display as in Spain?

The Kings of Portugal were acclaimed in a ceremony similar to that of Spain.

The Acclamation ceremony of King João IV of Portugal in 1640 was also the last time a Portuguese Monarch wore a crown.
