Oooh! House hunting! My favorite past time! Most of the places seem character-less, but I did spark to Kensington Church W. Maybe it was all the light and suggestion of windows (at least).

My California soul needs sun and air. But I would also need more garden and trees.

This is very much a question for the locals: How is that part of England?

Scenic?
Secluded?
A jet-set holiday-area?
General popular tourist spot?

In short: Why that part of Britain?

I come from Norfolk, that part of England. It's more a rural and agricultural county than anything, though it gets its fair share of tourists on the coast and the Broads (where people can sail.) It's a very flat county, but pretty in parts.

This house is reasonably near to Sandringham and Anmer on the Sandringham estate. It's certainly not a sun drenched touristy sort of spot, though tourists do visit Sandringham of course. There are quite a few country houses with aristocrats still living in them in the area (they're called 'turnip toffs') so if you wanted a nice country lifestyle it would be fine.

Bit cold in the winter, Muhler; the wind comes straight from the North Pole . I have to say that it doesn't seem likely to me that Harry would be buying a big house in Norfolk, until he has a family at least, but you never know!

Thanks, Curryong

Sounds like a place I'd like to be.

Being Norfolk born and bred myself, I concur with Curryong's description of this county! Many parts of Norfolk are very secluded and off the beaten track, so it would be an ideal place for Harry to live.

Major step for Harry if in any way true, he wouldn't just be buying a house but a household, as expecting a certain level of staff would be required to run it.

That's a lovely place. A true home.

Is York Cottage an option for Harry and his perhaps future family?

York Cottage IMO is in quite a nice location but it's a rather ugly late Victorian building architecturally. As far as I know the estate office for the Sandringham estate is located there as well as accommodation for estate workers and holiday lets. I suppose they could all be thrown out and a refurbishment for Harry take place, but I don't think it's likely somehow!

This would be a significant purchase for a single Harry. 7 bedrooms is a lot of space plus his future wife may not want to live in Norfolk, even as a country retreat.

He could always sell it I suppose. Just seems like something you would have once you're married, not while you're still single.

I echo what Curryong wrote, one York Cottage is in use as office space, and two, it was deemed "glum" even back when George V occupied it, but he seemed to be keen on it.

Prince Harry is not buying a £3.6m mansion in the North Norfolk village of Wighton, it was confirmed today.

National newspapers today ran a story saying that Water Hall, near Wighton, boasting seven bedrooms, a swimming pool and no neighbours, had enticed the prince because of its proximity to Anmer Hall, where the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge live.

But a spokesman from country house agents Savills in Norwich, selling the property, confirmed today that this was not the case and Water Hall is still very much for sale.

Prince Harry inherited a considerable sum of money from his mother, but how wealthy is he personally now ? A 3.6 million pound investment may be a rather high price tag for the prince.

Prince Charles and possibly the Queen would contribute to Harry's first marital home, I believe. However at the moment Harry's single and personally I don't believe he was seriously interested in Water Hall, lovely though it is. It's too big for one person. Somebody was flying a kite here, probably Emily Andrews.

Great publicity for the house though. I'm sure the interest in the house has sky rocketed

According to 'insiders' and the DM, Harry has been searching for a country home in Norfolk, to Charles's dismay, for about a year.
