William IV Windsor (hated BP and tried to sell it) probably - though he seemed to spend a lot of time not there - he had other interests that took him elsewhere. Bushy House

George IV - spent most of his time at Windsor - though he was renovating BP and used Carleton House

I always read and heard that a lot of Monarchs (The ones who lived there) did not like BP. The only one who seem to like Buckingham Palace was King Edward VII. William IV, Victoria, George V, VI and Elizabeth all did not seem to like it.

I think Buckingham Palace is a beautiful place but I never had to live there so what do I know.

I really like the Virtual Rooms Tour of the palace:
http://www.royal.gov.uk/TheRoyalResi.../Overview.aspx

I think it would be wonderful if the younger royals would use the grand rooms to put on concerts for their charities and organizations and perhaps host award ceremonies. I would be very eager to book and use those rooms as much as possible. Especially the Ballroom.

On the front of the Palace being 100years old - I remember once seeing a photo that said it was of Buckingham Palace even though it looked nothing like it. The front that was first added looks nothing like the one we have today and makes the Palace looks so different.

Hi,

Since The Queen and The Duke were not in residence, perhaps the security there is lax, or laxer, than if they were??

The headlines blaring "Queen and Scare" are just another example of press and media hype to sell a sensationalist story.

But other royals, such as Andrew, live there as well so the security should still be reasonably tight.

We were there about a year ago and got confused about which way to go after viewing a gallery exhibit (Queen was in residence). My husband walked off on a path towards BP, and when I tried to follow, security immediately stopped me. I had to call to my husband to come back - it was as if he was invisible and the two guards were focused on me and a person behind me, we were all confused - I would not say it was the strongest security presence. We were just joking recently about, how had my husband not heard me and come back, might he have ended up in BP?

Oh, I know there were more guards, but it really looked possible to get quite close to the Palace without some of them noticing, on the side we were on.

Of course, there's nothing amusing about the intruders climbing a wall and kicking in a door, etc., if that's what happened.

Originally the walls of the Grand Hall of Buckingham Palace were of colored scagliola.
The present white and gold décor dates from 1902.
