It's not the young royals fault for what their friends do but sure can distance themselves from their friends. Guy Pelly could burn down Buckingham Palace and William & Harry would remain good friends with him.

I think loyalty is a good thing.
Pelly is something of a loose cannon but I think it's nice that William and Harry stand by him.

Yeah, but I don't think Guy should abuse his royal pals loyalty. He did this in front of the palace because of his close relationship with the young royals and that it would get some media attention. If he's gonna do something in front of the palace, make sure it's something nice and appropriate.
 
Eh, there's probably all sorts of ads and promos that use the palace or other royal associations as background; I think the whole thing is a tempest in a teapot.

Tara Palmer-Tompkinson is not a personal friend of either William or Harry. Age difference alone (she is 43) makes that clear.

Her father is a friend and skiing companion to Prince Charles. In the skiing incident in 1988, Tara's mother Patricia Palmer-Tomkinson was severely injured, and almost died, in a skiing accident that claimed the life of one of their close friends (Major Hugh Lindsay, Royal Equerry), as well as injuring Prince Charles.

Major Lindsay and Mrs Palmer-Tomkinson were helicoptered to Davos, where Lindsay was declared dead and Patti found to have severe leg injuries. She spent four months in a Swiss hospital.

Info about this incident at LHR belongs under Charles, not William and Harry.

Delighted to share the wonderful news that Isabella and Sam are the proud parents of a new baby girl: Eva-Deia Branson. She was born at 4.39pm on February 19th, weighing 7.14oz. Joan and I are the luckiest grandparents alive to have three beautiful healthy grandkids in the space of two months, and Bellie’s parents Mary Gaye and Jo are equally ecstatic.

This why the royals need to be careful who they socialise with. There is an Instagram pic of Prince Harry and Fedelio Cavelli at the Sentebale Polo Cup in the UAE. Article is behind a paywall and my subscription is up.

The prince and the playboy partied on a private yacht in the Gulf, they met at the polo in Dubai and enjoyed the climax to last year’s Formula One grand prix season in Abu Dhabi.

Little did Prince Harry know that the Lebanese-American he was socialising with faces allegations of being involved in chartering a private jet which flew 47 sacks of cocaine worth £70 million — and disguised as humanitarian aid — from Venezuela to Europe.

The royals meet hundreds of people on their travels, especially when holidaying overseas. It's not as if this man is one of Harry's oldest friends or they were socialising with a few others.

There were dozens of people on that yacht and hundreds more at the polo and the Grand Prix he attended. Harry has his photo taken with many people.

There are other royals who have had longstanding friendships with dubious characters, Prince Charles/ Jimmy Saville and Andrew/Epstein for instance, that were/are more of a worry than someone met for a couple of days on holiday. How do we know Beatrice hasn't met people like that on her excursions? Doesn't mean she or Harry are close buddies with these individuals.

At the very least the royals shouldn't pose for pictures with people they don't know very well when they're out socializing. Everything winds up on Instagram or Facebook, and in a case like this it's a bad visual.

That was a previous boyfriend. She dated Hugh Crossley for years and broke off their engagement in 2009. They reconciled for a little while back in 2012. I'm not sure when she started dating Jonathan, but they got engaged this April

I think they must have married in Kenya, mustn't they, on her family's property there? I just think the paps, DM etc would have been all over this if the wedding had been held in England. Jecca is very conservation conscious, and no doubt will continue with her work after marriage.

There is a story in the newspapers today [and on 'Twitter'] that the two year old marriage between Tom Van Straubenzee, and Lady 'Missy' Percy is over..

I've tried to upload a photo of the article, but it wasn't 'having it'..
This is most sad if it proves to be correct.

It's too bad, but at least there are no children involved.
 
^ Goodness me, if true that is indeed sad news. Their wedding at Alnwick was wonderful. Missy's sister Kitty's marriage also ended a couple of years ago after only a short time.
 
John Gurney Pelly, who died 20 November, 2015, was a scion of the Pelly baronets (Baronet, UK, cr 1840).


Mr Pelly was the father of Guy Pelly, close friend of the Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry.


He was born 1938 a son of the late Douglas Gurney Pelly by his wife the former Monica Tate, a scion of the Tate baronets, and married in 1973, Vanda Joan Allfrey, a scion of the Allfrey baronets, by whom he had issue, Sam, James and Guy.

Pippa and Carole Middleton proved they're very much part of the family fold as they joined Prince William at a memorial service in honour of his late friend on Wednesday night.

Pippa, 32, and Carole, 60, wrapped up warm as they arrived at the carol concert at St Lukes Church in Chelsea for the Henry van Straubenzee Memorial Fund.

The charity, which uniquely has both William and his brother Prince Harry as patrons, was set up in memory of their friend, who died in a car crash in 02.

I onder if Carole and Pippa knew Van straubenzee? Why were they there otherwise?
 
^ I don't think they did. Henry van Straubanzee ('Hen') died at 18 just before he was going to volunteer abroad on his gap year. He was Harry's particular friend (they were the same age) as his brother Tom was William's, though Tom and his younger brother Charley are friendly with both Princes now. The tragedy occured before Kate came on the scene.
Perhaps Carole and Pippa just like carol-singing!

Pippa attended Tom's wedding, so, I think she and van Straubenzee are friends. They were theire to support the van Straubenzee family.
 
Tom is one of William's best friends. Kate has been with William for 10 plus years. In that time, it's not unbelievable that her family has become friends with one of William's closest friends. Both Pippa and Carole have gone to this event multiple times. As was mentioned, Pippa attend Tom's wedding. I don't think she close friends with Missy Percy like Chesly is and just because she is friends with George Percy, would that get her invited?

Do regular people wait for an invite to a memorial service? I get it that for very famous people/state functionaries there may be a list. But I always go if I think I need/have reason to pay respects and know I won't be taking a seat from someone with a better reason to show up.

They didn't know Henry, but they know his brother Tom. There are pictures from as far back as 2009 that show Pippa and Tom/Missy hanging out at Polo. And like others said, Pippa was at their wedding.

Just like everyone else, Pippa and Carole were there to support the Van Straubenzee family.

Yes, I was referring to the wedding of Tom Van Straubenzee and Missy Percy. The event other day was a carol service for charity not a memorial service. Anyone who gave enough money to the charity or bought a ticket if they sold tickets could have went to it.
