Trooping the Colour 2003-2022

Thanks for the photos!
I am looking forward for photos of the Kent clan.

Lovely photos from today's Trooping the Colour. James did such a fantastic job escorting his Granny. What a gentleman :D. The Wessex children are very well-behaved. I'm sure Edward and Sophie are proud. George was so precious, looking at everything with such curiosity and wonder. I loved his enthusiasm when he was watching his father on parade, and during the Flypast on the balcony. He was so engaged, and seemed to want to share everything with the adults around him. I'm happy to see him take part in this particular event. He seemed to handle it all like a pro.

I'm only just starting to catch up with today's royal events (weddings! Troopings!), but what a lovely family gathering. George is absolutely delightful, and I was very happily surprised to see Louise and James there even though Edward and Sophie aren't (I've seen so many articles about George making an appearance that it wasn't until I came into this thread that I even realized that the Wessex children were there; the possibility hadn't even occurred to me, since I know that Edward and Sophie are in Sweden). Isn't this only the second time that James has been on the balcony at Trooping? And I loved that he got special attention from Granny, who I'm sure must be very proud of him. He was looking so grown up in his suit! And how sweet that George is wearing his father's (and grandfather's) old outfit . . . what a nice touch. He's just adorable in every way. A lovely day, and I'm excited that I still have a lot of pictures to catch up with. :D

I loved how The Queen and Philip had James in the centre with Louise. That was a nice touch from granny. She knows that the press and public will be all about George but she very subtly gave her support to her youngest grandchild on his first appearance on the balcony by having him in the centre of things.
It wasn't James' first appearance on the balcony.

Thanks for the links. The children were sweet. It was fun to watch both George and James. Great shots of the monarch plus three.

Louise is such a beautiful young lady. The York sisters looked wonderful, as did Catherine and Camilla. What a great day.

ETA: It was interesting that Andrew ushered Harry to a more prominent place on the balcony. I think that puts to rest rumors that Andrew is unhappy that the focus is on the Wales family.

Thanks to all who shared the photos and videos. Trooping the Colour is probably my favourite royal event after Christmas at Sandringham. I applied for tickets this year, but I never got a response back. Oh well, perhaps next year I'll have better luck.

It's adorable to see George on the balcony this year, I love how interested he seemed in the crowds and the flypast. Catherine and Camilla seem to be quite friendly as they were chatting with each other during the carriage procession. It's also a nice surprise to see Louise and James there as I wasn't expecting them to attend since their parents are at the wedding in Stockholm. The details about James escorting HM are sweet. HM seems to be close to the Wessex children.
I do believe this is a first appearance for little Xan Windsor on the balcony too.

I kept on thinking that Harry appeared to be a bit left out during the ceremony, though I did see him interacting with Andrew once on the balcony.

They appear at 11.15.

Balcony

Thanks Molly2101. I don't get up that early to watch anything but a significant royal wedding so I missed the Trooping. The Queen looks to be in good health and quite animated on the balcony. And, of course, George is the cutest kid ever.:whistling:

Just watched the highlights of the ceremony. A couple of things struck me - firstly during the carriage procession both to and from the parade ground, the Duke could be see frequently waving to the crowds, but not the Queen which struck me as a little odd ( although she seemed in good spirits on the balcony). I was curious why the Duke left the carriage and the Queen was taken around the parade ground on her own especially as she was followed by other members of the Royal Family on horseback who are Colonels of the Regiments as is the Duke. I too noticed a less animated Harry on the balcony - the photos seem to emphasise this even more so.

Elly - I thought the family group on the balcony during the parade was a bit grumpy frumpy and tired. Harry did his best to chat there - but was a no go. So I think he just gave up. It was an odd dynamic...

And where the heck are the balcony wide photos we look at every year to see who is there and not, who has grown, who else had a cool hat (or not). I guess I will check again in the morning.

That's how they've always done it since he stopped riding about ten years ago. I'm not sure why it is since, as you say, the other colonels get to go with the Queen.

All of them look like grumpy bears in those hats. It's the chin strap and low brim.

EDIT: And finally - full pictuers of the balcony are coming out: http://cache1.asset-cache.net/gc/45...Tmq/sn/SwLcy+kW7P2UyZt+mOAoSFAWCYkCwXhgHc5Q==

Do they still use real bear skins? Awful if they do. Should use something faux.

Loved seeing George on the balcony. I read on twitter that his little outfit was an heirloom. It was previously worn by Prince William on his first balcony appearance in 1984.

I read that also but I'm not convinced it is the same. William's shirt was white with more ruffles. George's was blue with fewer ruffles. Unless my color was off....

I love that James walked out with the Queen and Philip and he is such a good mixture of Edward and Sophie. He looked so grown up in his suit.

James and Louise both look like Edward, I think. But I thought he looked a little lost out there. Is this the first time on a balcony appearance? And without his parents.

Theblue outfit was originally worn by Charles.

That outfit really doesn't seem to be the same type that was worn when Charles was that age.

From what I've read they collect the pelts from bears that die of natural causes in the Canadian wilderness. Apparently many are decades old and have been cared for to reduce the need to create new ones.

As expected, the Kents, especially Princess Alexandra, looked absolutely regal. It is nice to see Lady Gabriella making her annual public appearance. The Duchess of Gloucester looked all right.

The photo is from 2014.

The Queen always rode on her own when inspecting her troops at the parade. The royal colonels ride behind her, but since Prince Philip stopped riding, I guess it's preferred for The Queen to continue to do the inspection on her own. I don't think Philip would have it any other way.

It is one worn by Charles, then by William. Definitely

It is not the same outfit, unless they modified it. William had elastic at the waist and had more ruffles in front.

Princess Anne has move up.
She is in the front row next to Camilla. Princess Anne is usually hidden in the back but thanks to Sophie and Edward attending the wedding Princess Anne can finally be seen.

Did anyone catch that there is a photo where the entire 'central group' are all looking dead-ahead at the photographer? This includes Harry who is poking his head around Catherine so that he is in the photograph. How did they orchestrate that? Walkie-talkie, cell phone? That's cooperation with the media. ;)

George looks to me to be pure Middleton, mainly Michael Middleton. :flowers:

Looking at the side-by-side of George and William at the same age(?), George looks like he's chubbier than his dad was, especially in his face, but I think he has William's colouring and nose.

I see a squarer face. Michael Middleton has a square face imo. :flowers:

Anyway, George has more of Kate's family's phenotype in him, I think. We'll see. ;)

George is so sweet! I wonder who the little girl in the picture is?

I also saw someone waving from the window at horse guards as the first carriages arrived but it was too far to see who it could be.
Maybe the little girl is Lady Cosima Windsor - the Ulsters' daughter? I couldn't tell if the Gloucester daughters were there, and they have daughters of their own as well.

William had a long face, even when he was a kid. George to me seems to have a rounder face. Catherine did to as a child, but so did Charles when he was this age.

I think he might end up with his dad's nose, but a face shaped more like either of his grandfather's. His dad's colouring, but he almost looks like he'll have waiver or even curly hair. To me he doesn't purely resemble Middleton or Windsor so much as a mix of both.

A week or so ago I was looking through some stuff of my mother's and it included a baby photo of Philip and it looked exactly like George. It wasn't a photo I had seen before - not the one of his sitting on the chair. I always saw a lot of Philip in William as well, though now I don't see much of anyone in William - not Diana, not Philip, not Charles.

I think George looks a lot like Kate and her father, except with blonde hair. He's a sweet little guy and seems pretty well behaved.
