I'd have thought it would have been on in the middle of the night in Australia anyway and there is nothing on any of the channels except shopping so there is really no excuse.

Swearing in of GGs is important for Australians, although we don't see the swearing in of the actual government.

The Trooping of the Colour would begin at 8.00 p.m. by 10.00 p.m. (remember the Ashes will be shown live and each day's play will start at 11.00 am in England and that is 8.00 p.m. here). So it is on during prime TV time and it simply wouldn't rate.

Really - how many Aussies would like to watch the Queen ride in a carriage to look at some soldiers and than take another carriage ride back again to come onto a balcony and wave at people.

I doubt if I would watch it. All I need to do is see a photo or two and I regard myself as quite a keen royal watcher. If I was going to be there I would apply for tickets and be either at Horseguards or in The Mall but from this distance it doesn't excite.

There are some of us who would jump at the chance to see the Queen participating such a colourful display of pagentry. If we can;t have the London version, at least some coverage should be given to the Australian version (albeit on a smaller scale) whihc takes place at the Duntroon Military College. It was cancelled this year because of swine flu.

BBC NEWS | UK | Queen set for Trooping the Colour

The Queen is due to celebrate her 83rd official birthday with the Trooping the Colour parade in central London.

More than 1,100 soldiers will take part in the display of military pomp and pageantry on Horse Guards Parade.

Unfortunately you are a very small minority and just not worth the loss of revenue for the TV stations where ratings=$ and simply can't be ignored unless in the national interest e.g. Question Time or the Budget speech - even if a ratings loser they are shown as relevant and necessary.

Like I said, the ABC could easily stream the BBC's coverage on one of its additonal channels. No revenue lost there.

It is still important to remember that while Australia is a monarchy, all relevant traditions and protocols should be observed, regardless of public sentiment. Geogre Bush was still treated as President right until January 21 this year. Queen Elizabeth II should enjoy the same treatment until is decided otherwise

Trooping the Colour has started on BBC1- this year there a 7 Guards on parade instead of the more usual 6 since the Irish Guards have been recruiting recently

This year TRH The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince William (in Air Force Uniform) and Prince Harry are in the 1st Carrage with TRH The Earl and Countess of Wessex and The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester in the 2nd Carriage

The Queen has left the Palace, she is wearing the same outfit as when she presented these colours to the Irish Guards in May and is accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh

Her Majesty has arrived on the Parade ground and is being recieved with a Royal Salute

The Queen is now reentering the Carriage and inspecting the line of guards, Her Majesty uses this as a chance to use her excellent eye for detail

The Escort for the Colour now moves forward to collect the Colour which will then be trooped

Ratings are still important to the ABC as they need to justify their funding to the government come budget time.

That being said - I don't ever remember being able to watch the Trooping the Colour as far back as the 60s so it just isn't something new.

We have never had a great deal of coverage of royal ceremonial from Britian of their mundane royal events. We have, as long as I can remember back to the 60s, only had royal weddings, funerals, etc. We didn't all get Charles Investiture live by the way. In the small country town where I lived we had a replay on the Sunday afternoon and I remember the complaints at school the next day about how boring it was and that their parents had made them sit through it. A lot of republicans born that day.

By the way - the BBC world is showing the Iranian election and SkyNews UK is showing its general news.

Channel 9 has a kids movie.
ABC has something called New Tricks
Channel 7 has the rugby
Channel 10 The Simpsons
ABC 2 has At the Movies

If the Trooping the Colour would rate it would be on but it simply wouldn't rate down here.

What a lovely occasion this is. I think all the Royals ladies are looking pretty good this year. But the uniforms (& the horses) always steal the show
