This, perhaps, has to be the most wonderful and most sentimental honor that the Queen has ever bestowed upon anyone. I'm happy they were able to keep this under wraps until the date of the 70th wedding anniversary.

No one is more deserving of it than HRH, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh!

Barry is one of the greatest songwriters ever - as were his brothers. Never mind their recordings, they wrote so many songs for other artists:

Among them included Diana Ross's "Chain Reaction", Tina Turner's "I Will Be There", and Barbra Streisand's "Guilty" and "Woman in Love", as well as songs "Heartbreaker" and "All the Love in the World" by Dionne Warwick.

Other artists whose songs were originally written by the Gibbs trio include Celine Dion "Immortality", Destiny's Child "Emotion", Status Quo "Spicks and Specks", Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers's "Islands in the Stream" and Olivia Newton-John's "Come On Over".

That's just a few!

Its a well deserved honour

All in all a bit of a lacklustre list in my opinion. Incidentally, has Dame Olivia de Havilland received her insignia yet? Knowing she doesn't leave Paris, I wonder if it will be presented to her at home by the British Ambassador?
