This video is from May 2009, but I found it very intesting because I never heard the Duke speaking before.

The article is quite funny, it shows a pic of Prince Edward and Countess
Sophie, seems they've taken the Duke of Kent as Prince Edward..

Here are two real pics of the event:

The Duke of Kent officially opened Birmingham International Airport's new
International Pier on 22 October 2009. To mark the occasion, he was also
given a photograph of his mother, Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent, who
opened the Airport’s original Elmdon terminal in 1939.

Do the Duke and Duchess of Kent not attend any occasions together anymore? Do they have problems in their marriage? It has become very rare to see the Duchess. Just a question.

It appears that the Duke and Duchess lead separate lives but are not divorced.

They do appear at family occassions (they both attended The Lord Frederick Windsor's wedding together even rode in the car together!) and at special occassion like the Trooping of the Colour but that is about it.

If you get an opportunity, you might want to check out The Duchess of Kent by Mary Riddell....it answers some of your questions.

Thank you for the information, Zonk! I was wondering for a long time, that's rather sad... I never heard of this book, thanks a lot for this hint, I surely will have a look for it.

You are welcome!

Not to get off topic because this is the Current Events thread: but it explains how they met, the role of the mothers (the late Duchess of Kent and Mrs. Worsley), her introduction to married life (elements of the Yorks without the cheating and the Waleses - lack of support from the Duke in adjusting to royal life), the loss of her children (miscarriages), her depression and conversion to Catholicism. It also should be noted that it can be perceived as one sided....no one has ever spoken about the Duke of Kent and how he felt about his marriage. So it could be taken with a grain of salt.

Its a shame, because they were one of my favorite couples. I would hope that they would get some type of balance and reconciliation but it doesn't look like it will happen.

I am sure that I read at some time that they had asked the Queen for permission to get a divorce and she said no but that they should live their lives the way they are doing now with no expectation on the Duchess to appear in public at all.

They never asked The Queen for permission to divorce. It was reported The Duke asked Katharine for a divorce and she declined, preferring to remain seperated informally.

In 2002, Katharine did ask The Queen for permission to use the style "Katharine, Duchess of Kent" and to relinquish her royal duties, which was granted. She no longer uses HRH as a result, but officially she remains a royal princess by marriage.
