I think the most telling thing about her role in the family is the fact that she doesn't even attend family events with any regularity. HRH is usually accompanied by his sister, Princess Alexandra, who is now a widow.

I am MAD of a sport called Cricket. The cricket world twenty20 is going on. So they invited the Duke of Kent to give speech in the Opening ceremony yesterday, I saw him giving the speech but i don't have any pictures, but that doesn't stop me from finding them.

The Duke of Kent does like his cricket. For some reason I see a resemblance between Princess Charles and the Duke. Thank you for the pictures IceFlower.

I would assume that the resemblance between the Duke and the PoW comes from their Greek family relationship, more than other relatives.

Its a shame that the relationship of the Duke and Duchess is non existent. They seemed to be so in love in the beginning and had to deal with the late Duchess not being overly excited about the relationship (at least from what I read of course she got over that).
I wonder if the Duke ever thought about divorcing the Duchess?

I can see some resemblance between the Duke of Kent and Prince Andrew of Greece. The Prince had that high forehead and prominent ears. Prince Charles takes after him as well.

It was rumored he did suggest they divorce, but Katharine declined due to her Catholicism and The Queen was said to be opposed to another divorce in the royal family.
In any case, they obviously have reached a reasonable arrangement in which they remain married, but live separate lives, which is not unusual for royal or noble couples in any case.

I've just watched that YouTube interview ElsaM posted. What a charming lady Katherine is, and what an interesting accent she has.
I hope she is happy with her life, and that she and the Duke get along.

As they are both descendents of the George I of the Hellenes and Queen Victoria I would assume that there is a great chance of a similar appearance. There are also descendents of George's older sister Queen Alexandra which is probably more the reason why they appear to favour the Greek side (which is really the Danish side) of their ancestry.
George I of the Hellenes - Andrew - Philip - Charles
George I of the Hellenes - Nicholas - Marina - Edward Duke of Kent
Victoria - Alice - Victoria - Alice - Philip - Charles
Victoria - Edward VII - George V - George VI - Elizabeth - Charles
Victoria - Edawrd VII - George V - George Duke of Kent - Edward Duke of Kent
Remember that Edward VII married George I of the Hellenes sister so this is where the descent through both the Danish and the Saxe-Coburg lines come through.
The main point is that for cousins they have at least three common lines of descent back over the last 100 or so years which is one reason for the increase in similar looks between them, I think.

That's what I thought, but I haven't been able to find any reason for it. I like to try to find reasons for things that seem odd to me. Maybe it's simply a combination of regional influences.

The Duke of Kent looks very young and fresh faced. At first glance I didn't think this picture was taken today.
Thank you for it.

The Duke of Kent has played a role in making Wimbledon more modern:
