Yikes! Why isn't he wearing a hat? It's the middle of summer over there, isn't it?

The Duke's posture and gaze is always so focused and respectful at these events. I think he makes the perfect representative. Harry is cuter - but the Duke of Kent's frame always expresses deep, historic understanding of the mountain of duty done for country. It's as if he is worn down and in perfect posture at the same time.
Sorry for gushing, but I do admire his work.

Could this signal a return to some royal engagements for Katherine?

It would be nice to see her again, but isn't time we gave these aged hard-working royals a bit of retirement? When will Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie start doing royal engagements?

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie will start doing royal engagements when the Queen (or later Charles or even William) asks them to and not before.

Just goes to show the value of the older, experienced Royals, when all the press seems to do is clamour for the young, more photogenic Royals.

Palace tell me this is just a routine appointment to help with private charitable work, no new/greater public role for the Duchess, now 81.

The Duke of Kent as Patron of the British Dresden Trust is currently in Dresden, Germany. He will be honoured with the Dresden Prize, an international peace prize, on February 14, for his contribution to the reconciliation of Great Britain and Germany.

His visit started yesterday, February 12, with a ceremony at the Church of the Holy Cross in Dresden, where the Duke of Kent handed the Medal of Honour of the British Dresden Trust to the Lord Mayor of Dresden, Helma Orosz:

Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, Helma Orosz, Major of Dresden, German President Joachim Gauck, Daniela Schadt and Stanislav Tillich, Governeuer of Saxony, hold hands together in a human chain across the city center in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the Allied firebombing of Dresden on February 13, 2015 in Dresden, Germany. On February 13-14, 1945, U.S. and British bombers attacked in successive raids that devastated the city and killed at least 25,000 people. The formation of a human chain has become an annual occurrence that not only commemorates the bombing but also makes a statement against local neo-Nazis, who in years passed have sought to use the anniversary to their own ends.
