I don't know if this belongs her in this thread but I could not think of anywhere else to put it. I am reading "The Sisters: The Saga of the Mitford Family" and am in "Chapter 11: Family at Odds". It is 1937 and Decca is getting married and afterwards Sydney, her mother, and Deborah (the future Duchess of Devonshire) travel to Austria to attend a party. The book states that Austria was then in Hitler's Reich since the Anschluss. I thought the Anschluss took place in 1938?

The Germans crossed the Austrian border on the 12th of March 1938.

Thanks. So can I assume the author of this book got the year wrong?

Yes, they must have. Decca had her baby in December 1937 if I remember it correctly and although she and Esmond were socialist rebels who did everything their own way they had been properly married for some time then.

Horrible news for both Rothschild and Goldsmith families: 15-year-old Iris Annabel Goldsmith died in a quad bike accident in the family's home in Somerset...

She was the daughter of Ben Goldsmith and his ex-wife Kate Rothschild.

I read a book on the Mitford sisters and I am currently reading the book on the letters between the six sisters. I "think" I want to read Jessica's book "Hons and Rebels", her memoirs, except that in the book I read and in the book I am reading, there are comments that it is not totally accurate. In "The Saga of the Mitford Family", the author suggested that she may have mixed up reality with Nancy's novels that have exaggerated characters based on their family. Also, in a letter between Deborah and Diana, one of them says that 90% of "Hons and Rebels" is not true. I just don't want to waste my time on a non-fiction book that "may be" more fiction than truth. Thoughts?

Anything involving the Mitford sisters written by themselves about the family should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Strictly Come Dancing: Viscountess Weymouth Emma Thynn is the EIGHTH contestant confirmed for 2019 series

Absolutely baffled by this one, but she's always been a celebrity.

I don't think you should avoid it. The way the Mitford sisters perceived and described themselves is a big part in what made them so enchanting and often things they leave out are those they found to hard to bear.

Stunning D&G wedding dress worn by Camilla Thorp when she married the heir to the Duke of Marlborough goes on display at Blenheim Palace

Could this go here? I don't think there's a wedding thread for this wedding but I know we love looking at those dresses.

I've read a couple of interviews with her and seen her on the Longleat program I think she's ok. Be interesting to see if she can dance at all. Her father in law is certainly "eccentric".
