Interesting lady but first she will start off as a Viscountess if they marry, and then she has to stay married to him long enough for her husband to succeed to the marquessate on his fathers death. Given his families complicated marital history there is no guarantee of that.

Yeah, that's true of course. She won't become a marchioness right away upon their marriage, but only when her father-in-law passes away.

Britain's blue blood has been mixed for centuries - Telegraph
Quote:
Emma McQuiston, a 26-year-old former model, food blogger and aspiring television chef, will make history in June when she becomes Britain’s first black marchioness.
Upon marrying Ceawlin Thynn, heir to the Longleat estate, she will be a viscountess and a marchioness-in-waiting. She will take the name Lady Bath when her husband inherits his father’s peerage.
The mixed-race daughter of a Nigerian oil tycoon is marrying into the aristrocracy’s most eccentric family. Her future father-in-law, 80-year-old Alexander Thynn, the seventh Marquess of Bath, is well known not least for his harem of at least 75 “wifelets” that he keeps in cottages on his estate, despite having been married for four decades.
Miss McQuiston claims to have had to face “some snobbishness, particularly among the much older generation”. She told Tatler magazine: “There’s class, and then there’s the racial thing.”

Her Grace the Dowager Duchess of Norfolk, née Anne Constable-Maxwell, passed away on

Here is partof the obituary for Anne, Duchess of Norfolk. Her work establishing the development of Hospices is really remarkable.

This is from The Times

Founder and fundraiser of Help for Hospices who was also treasurer of Help the Aged

Anne, Duchess of Norfolk, worked tirelessly for the hospice movement for more than 30 years. She founded the charity Help the Hospices in 1984. Dedicated to the care and comfort of the terminally ill, it awarded training bursaries and grants for special projects, and provided information on all aspects of hospice care.

The Duchess became its first chairman. In 1998 she became its president, and by then it was estimated that she had raised £10 million for the charity.
With her husband, from 1987, the Duchess was also honorary joint treasurer of Help the Aged. In May 2000 she achieved the long-term goal of a high-tech resource and training centre near King’s Cross, which was opened by the Queen.

To raise money, the Duchess would contact a large list of friends and acquaintances, selling items such as Christmas cards, some of which she herself painted.

Anne Mary Teresa Constable-Maxwell was born in 1927, the eldest daughter of Wing-Commander Gerald Constable-Maxwell, a Knight of Malta and a Papal Chamberlain, who descended from the Barons Herries. She was thus a distant cousin of the 16th Duke of Norfolk, with whom she and her husband, the 17th Duke, enjoyed exactly the same kinship. Her mother was American from Dallas, Texas.

In 1949 she married the Hon Miles Fitzalan-Howard, who was heir to his father, Lord Howard of Glossop, to his mother, Baroness Beaumont, and also to the 16th Duke of Norfolk. He succeeded his mother in 1971, his father in 1972, and his cousin as Duke in 1975.

The Duchess was an informal person, with a wide circle of friends. She worked hard and efficiently and achieved much for others. For her work with Help the Hospices, she was appointed CBE in 1992.

I thought that name dropping is the utter mauvais ton within the aristocratic circles.

Pictures of Lady Louise Burrell's birthday party. She is the daughter of the 12th Duke of Argyll. Attendees included Viscountess Grimston (the former Lady Rosanagh Innes-Ker) and her brother- and sister-in-law Hugo and Gallia Grimston; the Countess of Derby; Lady Louisa Stewart Howitt (daughter of the 20th Earl of Moray); and of course the birthday girl's brother and sister-in-law, the 13th Duke and Duchess of Argyll.

One of the pictures portrayed Peregrine Armstrong-Jones; is he a relative of the Earl of Snowdon perhaps?

"As for the family feud, he says, there is nothing the three sisters want more than to heal the rift with their brother – before it is too late. “We’re all getting old,” Worsthorne sighs"....after reading the artucle it sounded as if the sisters were more interested in the money than in healing any rift with a brother they had never been close to. Trying to claim a share of assets sold before their fathers death seems very odd. Since Lucinda is apparently now living in a house her father left her it would appear as if daddy did not totally forget about his daughters. Why should the late earl have been expected to provide for any of his adult children who presumably have made their own way on the world for a number of years before his death?
