They're private citizens. They don't make it easy to find information about them. Nicky, last anyone heard, was still battling his drug problems. Norton and Penny manage Broadlands.

Today must have been quite difficult for Charles. Lord Mountbatten was killed 27 years ago. How nice to know that his killer is enjoying his freedom. And for Princess Alexandra too actually. Her mother has been dead for 38 years now. It seems like another world.

BeatrixFan, you have a good memory. How could you remeber the date of the assasination of Lord Mountbatten? . Lord Mountbatten did have a great influence on Prince Charles and he wrote"Life will be the same" when Lord Mountbatten was dead. It was quite true. We truly missed those whom I loved.

It's one of those dates that just sticks with me for some reason. For me, his murder was the stark signal that an age had died. It was just such a horrific thing to do and was just such an attack on the Queen and her family. And it just crushed Charles so much. When something like that happens, I guess it's hard to forget. It's just too awful for words yet life has been going on for 27 years. Madness.

I know there were several other people also killed, including Lord Mountbatten's grandson. Can anyone give the list of those killed or injured and how and if they were related to the Mountbatten family?

Doreen Knatchbull, The Dowager Baroness Brabourne - 83, killed
The Hon. Nicholas Knatchbull - 14, killed
Paul Maxwell (Boat Boy) - 15, killed

Lord Mountbatten was killed, his daughter Patricia survived but had horrible injuries and had to be rescued from the water where she was floating on the top, presumed dead. Nicholas was Louis's grandson and Doreen was Patricia's mother-in-law.

Thanks BeatrixFan. The whole thing is really sad. So basically Patricia's husband lost both a son and his mother to this act of terrorism. And Patricia lost her father and her son. And nearly her own life. Sad for the poor boat boy's family, too. Talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Did they ever catch the individuals responsible?

I don't think the person(s) responsible for the attack were ever brought to trial. It was a very sad sad day, although it was probably responsible ultimately for Charles and Diana marrying.

They did. Thomas McMahon from the IRA. He went to prison but was released under the Good Friday Agreement thus cutting his life sentence. He served just 19 years. Talk about justice.

I understand that lord Mountbatten was son of princess Victoria, grandchild of queen Victoria. His father Lord Louis Mountbatten,ex prince Louis, was born in Germany, but when he had 14, he entered to British navy. In the first world war, people British dont want that he was as Chief of the navy because he was born as german. But, this prince was more british that german as his son Dickie said one time. Lord Mountbatten is uncle of prince Philip and the same queen, because they are grand- grandchildren of queeen Victoria. And I understand that George, lord Milford Haven, his brother, had a great collection of pornography and when he dead, this collection, that is very expensive, is now in a museum, but I dont know in which.

Lady Tatiana Mountbatten was one of the debutantes at this year's Haute Couture Bal du Crillon, that is the prestigious ball at the Hotel Crillon, Paris, on 25 November 2007. The five other debutantes in this feature were Olivia Pei (granddaughter of architect IM Pei); Cosima Ramirez Ruiz de la Prada (daughter of El Mundo founder); Marie-Solène d'Harcourt; Lily Collins (daughter of Phil Collins); and Gemima Lemos McMahon (stepdaughter of soccer player Pelé).

Point du Vue magazine featured six of the debutantes in its issue #3095 (14-20 November 2007). Lady Tatiana was among the six. The magazine declares that she is:

17 years old (from the Peerage website we learn her birthdate is 16 April 1990)
She lives in London
Great (or grand) niece of the late Earl Mountbatten of Burma (last viceroy of India and first governor-general of India)

PDV says her grandfather was the maternal uncle of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh (from the Peerage website we learn that her father is George Ivar Louis Mountbatten, 4th Marquess of Milford Haven, so PDV is wrong here because actually her grandfather would have been Prince Philip's first cousin)

PDV also says that Lady Tatiana is a student of geography [they don't specify where she is doing A Levels, but I know it to be Millfield School, and she will finish there in the next year] and has a passion for equestrian sports, with a particular excellence in dressage.
To the ball, she wore a peach (or cream) gown of the label "Christian Dior Haute Couture".

Other debutantes who joined with Lady Tatiana at the Crillon this year but were not in the PDV features:
Maria Abou Nadar
Kathleen Kennedy
Countess Anna de Pahlen (granddaughter of Agnelli)
Tara Sutin
Tansy Aspinall
